this is what true emotion sounds like. it's not about hitting every note perfectly, not about singing a song 100% as it was intended to be. it's about anger, desperation, sadness and expressing all of that in the most powerful way possible. that's what makes jack, what makes this band, not only raconteurs but artists as well.
I remember going to see the White Stripes and the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather so many times with my mother when I was very young. And I always loved the music they made and adored the live show experiences, but now as I’m growing older and my mother has passed, I’m discovering the emotional attachment she must have had to these performances. Jack White and the people he formed these groups with held with such reverence the music from the 50s and 60s. They love those songs and reinterpret them into modernity, bringing new sounds and emotions. And those were the songs my mother heard as a child. Her ashes are in a Third Man Records 7” record box at her request. I’ll never not think of her when I look back on these live performances. This cover in particular.
Sorry I have to repeat myself (and several others) but I just stumbled upon this once again... This is the first, and only, since Terry Reid's 1968 stunning version, time this song gets a pulse. And not just any, but a thunderous heartbeat. It explodes, instead of just limping along. So many people covered it... but only Terry and Jack gave it the jaw-dropping intensity that even the original lacked.
It is absolutely unbelievable how The Raconteurs did this song. It was one of my favorites I was obsessed with growing up and could not listen to enough and remains one of my all time favorites. Jack White and I really do have the same taste in music.
The very best version of this song so far... to my humble opinion...feeling things the way I feel it. The moment when he hits me with his soul... #BANG BANG!
Today is the 2023 and who like me listen this masterpiece for a long time? This cover is full of feelings and energy, like Jack have something in his live with this song. Great cover for all times.😊❤
He surprises me as always. Never heard a bad cover by Jack White, this mister is incredible. The personality put in this is amazing, all my respect to the musicians
all the people commenting about cher, yes very good, although this is definitely a cover of nancy sinatra's cover as it has heavy use of tremolo'd guitars which only nancy's did.
The speed differs between the Cher and Sinatra versions, which in turn changes the feel. I agree this is more based off off the Sinatra version than Cher’s even though that is itself a cover.
should give proper credit to the actual artist that wrote the song which is Sonny Bono. Without him there would be no Nancy Sinatra cover version of this song.
yeh, I didnt think anyone could cover this better than Terry Reid, but man, this is SO fantastic, they are very intense and Jack can really rock that guitar. I get the shivers at the way they end this song, I love it!!!!
