I taught Kira a stringing lesson two days ago and invited her back to do a follow-up stringing to see if she remembered everything she learned.
During this follow-up stringing, I allowed Kira to make mistakes and then guided her through some problems she was having. Through this process, she learned that problems are simply solutions waiting to happen.

aloha albert. kira did a great job. i guarantee when i strung for the very first time, i made mistakes. in fact, stringing a prince pro 110 on a drop-weight machine was challenging enough. luckily, when i got my true-tension machine, john balaban showed and gave me some tips. he also showed me a special starting knot i always use that i have never seen anyone else use. with time and experience, kira will perfect her technique and become an awesome stringer.

Aloha, Coach Dudley. I 100% agree with Kira's potential as an up-and-coming racquet stringer! Stringing the Prince Pro 110 was challenging because of the high tensions back then. Now thinking back, it's hard to imagine that stringing at 72-80 pounds was the norm for those racquets! 😮

Well done, Kira, and thank you for your stringing tutorials. At 6:42 Kira is asking if it matters to start the crossing string below or on the top of the main string. I find it easier if I end up over the last main string. So I always start in a way that in most cases I end over the main string before fiddling the string in the hole on the other side. If you want to do it this way, you have to calculate how many "not full" ways you have to string before you reach the path with all main strings. Why do you suggest, always to start stringing the cross string from top to bottom? What is the advantage? When I start from the bottom, I can prepare some lanes before I fasten the knots from the main. This way, I find it easier to use the double used holes and to allign the strings outside the racket.

Aloha Golem, Thanks for watching. I'm happy you enjoyed them! Although I didn't tell Kira in this lesson, I usually start my crosses "over" rather than "under." I developed this habit partly, but it also served as one of my stringing signatures so I could identify my string jobs. However, what you mentioned makes sense. As for calculating the proper "over/under" weave, starting from the 3rd cross (then working backward) should eliminate having to calculate. I'm sure it's universal for other stringing associations, also. Professional tournament stringing teams will specifically string 2-piece top to bottom unless instructed otherwise by the player. The strongest part of the hoop is the bottom since it is supported by the yoke. As you install cross strings, the stress that’s added to the frame follows the direction of the weave. Therefore, weaving toward the yoke ensures the stress is directed toward the stronger part of the hoop. Some pre-strung racquets (usually cheaper models) are strung 1-piece, where the cross strings are installed from bottom to top. You'll find some Babolat, Head, and Wilson racquets recommend both 1-piece and 2-piece of cross-string installation. You'll would rarely see it on a Prince racquet and never on a Yonex racquet. 🤙

Thanks for all the effort you put into the tennis stringing community sir. Very helpfull. I'm just starting with a weight drop machine and it takes almost an hour per racket... It's hard to keep the cross straight while holding the bar. Any advice for that? Thank you
