I was NOT expecting Radagon's face to be shaped like that. In my mind it always filled in the blanks as "ah red hair and muscular? Must be Ganondorf!" but he's surprisingly pretty?
@@oyaoya5200 He was transformed into the sword Elden Beast uses, and properly never come back to his humanoid form again. From Sacred Relic Sword "Sword wrought from the remains of a god who should have lived a life eternal.", you can see Elden Beast puts him down to water before his body is gone.
Out of all final bosses in the series, the Elden beast strikes me the most. It was a tradition to have an Human boss, and this creature certainly doesn't fit that criteria, but It's absolutely gorgeous to look at, I would say an absolute masterpiece in design. It really does fit in this game more than some other bosses. But lore wise... ... *This shit is a fuckin shiny humanity*
Radagon looks so badass and cool when hes holding his Hammer in the air while looking back at you, such an iconic moment, then the reveal of the elden beast paired with that somber yet beautiful music really is the cherry on too for me, loved this whole battle
Every once in a while a video game will give me goosebumps, the Elden Beast introduction and the music/visuals during the whole fight was one of those moments… a grand spectacle. I’ll never forget it.
After learning some of the lore behind this game, you can't help but feel bad for Radagon. He was put in this state against his will and suffered this amazing yet surely painful shattering and imprisonment regardless of what he wanted. His story mixed with this theme made this fight S tier.
He liked his life but Marika wanted to free herself from the Greater Will and Radagon rebelling against her was not part of her plan. I hope we see the outer gods someday.
@@ZettontheGOAT radagon was loyal, but Marika was not. This became a problem because they shared the same body so they were both constantly fighting for control, Marika to shatter the ring, and radagon to repair it. That's why they kept switching every time they hammered in the opening, they were trying to take control of each other.
the fact that Elden Beast is the embodiment of Elden Ring and its tail is like a root of a tree(Erdtree) is really a nice detail. love this game. truly the ultimate game of all time🔥🔥
@@lewispooper3138 ds3 was the least memorable of all the souls game when it comes to level design and general artistic design. It's only saving grace was that some of it's boss fights were really good.
@@abysswatcherbutibitethedus872 He didn't say the Elden Beast was the vessel, the Beast is the Elden Ring inside Marika. Read the description of the Elden Stars incantation.
I didn't play Elden Ring but watch a lot of videos and gameplay and lore (Love you Vaati) and to be honest Radagon is like really handsome but the Elden Beast reminds of the The Forest Spirit in Princess Mononoke, very ethereal, beautiful and kinda scary hehe
if you observe the Elden beast with it's tail pointed towards the sky and the "head" pointing towards the ground, its body will resemble a tree and root system. The pillars are trees in the background, the leaves and branches are missing, I actually think the trees are siphoning life from the lands between to feed the Greater Will.
The scenery at the end with the Elden Beast summons to mind a dream I had many years ago. There was a great dark tower in an infinite snowscape. The tower seemed endless, but at its summit was a vast forest of tall mirrors. Each one would reflect a different aspect of the soul; a glimpse of who you might have been in a different life. In that place you could lose yourself. Fall into the mirrors, and the reflection would take your place. It's not exactly the same. These are trees, not mirrors, and in my dreams the colours were much more pale and silver rather than evening gold. But other than that the visuals are strikingly similar.
I would be really interested to compare Radagon's and Marika's models (well whatever we have if Marika, lol). I know lore-wise they're sharing the same body, but obviously in the game they have different models. I wanna see if they thought to have any overlapping traits to pull that lore more into the modeling. (I don't know if I worded that well at all, I basically just wanna see if you can see things from Marika on Radagon's model and from Radagon on Marika.)
Elden Beast has a galactic supercluster-like structure inside of it, maybe they even put our own “Laniakea” into it. The design itself perfectly captures the concept of an alien entity that was brought to the world to serve as a vassal for a god.
The way radagon moves across the arena and that invincibility aura around him made it feel like you were fighting superman or something, there's no flashy particles flying around him no traces of light as he floats in the air and his moves are almost instantaneous
Oh shit and the lasers too. He feels a lot like fighting a super hero or something whit the super speed, teleportation, lasers and just how he tanks trough everything you throw at him
I have a theory that Radagon is a Marika Disorder, when we fight him we don't see 2 separate beings, we see Marika hanging and then we literally see her transform into Radagon. I think they can't be separated, I don't even think that Marika can control her disorder (Or another personality called Radagon, this aspect is also normal in these patients, they form a separate personality to face a traumatic situation), see it as a bipolar patient, a single material container that divides its experiences among the personalities that it believes inhabit it, in this case that aspect, symptom or bipolarity may be something normal in the Empyreans, or it may be that said symptom called Radagon is a product of the Tree.
no they had separate bodies before the shattering. Elden Beast fused them back together after that. As to why they were the same person in different bodies still remains a mystery.
Great boss design, one is a calm fight with the big boss Radagon and the second, Miyazaki implementing "Bullet hell the boss" which is really not a problem...if he didn't move too many times than a bloodhound step user but at least he isn't spamming his Thurst Explosion attack or the Old demon king quick explosion move that often, he really just moves a lot which takes the fight a bit to an annoying level. Radagon's BS moves are the no-frame kick to the ground AoE. Pure STR actually benefited to both fights, 1 hit every time Cosmic Pet does something with tons of damage and it will melt big time.
It's so scary that the Elden Beast only shows up after you defeat Radagon, destroying his immortal form to create it's weapon. When you know about his secret it only makes it crazier what the Vassal of the greater will does.
Radagon looks like a god damn final villian to like Bleach or something i love it, cant wait until he starts beating my arse 53 yrs later when i finally get to'em and the Elden Beast.....its just gorgeous
Radagon's lips are animated even though it didn't have to be - he's so stoic his facial expression does not change under any circumstances. But they still animated them. Same actually goes for Marika. You are not seeing her move at all, so she could have just been a static model. But for a brief moment when she drops, you can see her arms, hands and even fingers are ever so slightly animated. So she was probably fully rigged anyhow, despite there not being any need for it.
Anyone else notice that the Elden Beast kind of holds his hand close to his chest like someone when they're in pain. Also, it likely doesn't breathe since its from outside the planet and had to travel here (maybe?) but it looks like it's breathing very heavily.
The Elden Beast looks like he's got a cosmos inside it. At the same time that is also obviously his nervous system, and when you take him at face value, he's just a beast, another enemy to be fought. This is great philosophical commentary on our world. We think of people as just people but we've all seen the crazy world that lives inside us under the microscope. What, also, could be going on at a massive scale, if you were to zoom out enough in space and the universe. Could the big bang have been just the birth of a new cell in a celestial organism? He's also surrounded by Erd Trees, a common symbolism of multiverse theory in From Soft games.
I dunno what the design idea was, but i have seen people comparing it to the Laniakea Supercluster that we live, which makes a lot of sense because the Elden Beast is a being from outside of the planet. The lore pieces that talk more about it are these: ''Remembrance of the Elden Beast, hewn into the Erdtree. The power of its namesake can be unlocked by the Finger Reader.Alternatively, it can be used to gain a great bounty of runes. It was the vassal beast of the Greater Will and living incarnation of the concept of Order.'' and ''It is said that long ago, the Greater Will sent a golden star bearing a beast into the Lands Between, which would later become the Elden Ring.''
Hot take: i liked the Elden Beast boss fight. The only part that I think is kinda dumb is Elden Stars, which is really just a heal check and dodge like Rykard's hell attack
Im just saying, i would love to be able to fight the greater will in a DLC. Considering Milenia and Miquella are both still alive, itd be cool to get their help if possible. In melenias case, we did give her the golden needle so maybe that will help her and Miquella is in that egg in the blood area so maybe he will be alright as well. Heck, even Rani could help too if you do that ending. (Like summonable NPCS) I know its off the tails but I feel like the Greater Will is the main over arching "bad guy" lore wise in Elden Ring so like....lets whoop its butt xD
Elden Beast almost looks like it could fit the description of a biblically accurate angel, or star as one of the angels in NGE anime. I thought the sound design was pretty neat to, but for me this thing was hell to fight. I literally had to end up chasing it around zapping it with Fallingstar Beast Jaw gravity shot attack over and over again.. I think for the last few bosses I had resort to that method
I'd love to see what the Elden Beast is doing after it starts flying up into the sky, when it does that ring-explosion attack. I always was too busy dodging the attack to look at it.
I know, I have a huge crush on him despite him hammering my ass constantly and never getting to 2nd phase I just can't get over his little grunts when he swings that big hammer at me 😅
How the heck is it BS? Has some of the absolute easiest attacks to dodge. Other then the Elder Stars thing. The yellow orb that keeps follows you around for a while. That is BS I'll give you that.
@@AJDC_5 the BS Is the fact that it keeps running away and you can't do much about it. Luckily it's not that difficult compared to radagon, i think it's meant as a cutscene-fight more than an actual fight
@@davideventili2881 The fight still takes as long as other boss fights if not even less. Don't you think running away is completely nullified by the fact that it has so many openings where you can do a full combo on it? Unlike other bosses where you barely have time for a second attack. Anyone that says the fight is BS just because it is running away sometimes is taking the piss in my opinion. If it did not the fight would last 2 seconds. He is not even running away for the sake of it either. Its usually to set up one of its long range attacks or the ring attack.
@@AJDC_5 the only BS move it has is that yellow comet thingy, that follows you for a ridiculously long amount of time. Even more so because the boss can still attack during it.
Honestly, it's strange how the music for both of them is so different, yet both still perfectly fit the end of the game and are both so beautiful. Radagon's theme might legitimately be the best track in a FromSoft game I've ever heard, and I only love it more the more I hear it. Edit: just listened to them in the soundtrack, the Elden Beast's theme nearly brings tears to my eyes with it's beauty. I fucking love this game.
@@archangelgabriel8493 I haven't played Bloodborne yet (PC gang) but I have fought the Abyss Watchers, unfortunately I was too focused on the fight to notice the music, I'll give it a listen when I get a chance.
@@Roberto577_One Well without spoilers, here's this. This is a more seamless version where the original sounds like it was ripped out of the boss fight, loops and the sort. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i3bityYL1G8.html
You may like the original OST of Legend of Mana (not the "remastered" version) then. There's some truly beautiful songs in that game. Track 12- Everyday Dream ~Spirit's Song ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z2CNPgvYyak.html It's not orchestrated, just synth and not as sorrowful, mysterious or "epic" but it's beautiful too.
At least one of his sons got passed down the good stuff. Eye out, worst case of tapeworm known to man, oompa loompa proportions, and I'm still down atrocious for Messmer.
I mean as it stands it's pretty much a jelly monster, but I like the interior a lot. Like it's awesome that we can have things like this, actual particles and individual tiny 3d hairs locked onto skeletons that make this pocket universe 3d effect possible as opposed to using images or just particles that just fly for a bit and then disappear.
The Elden beast is extremely interesting, when I first saw it I thought of those large scale images of galaxy superclusters. Which made me thing about how much of an influence this creature actually would be. Not only to the world, but to the entire universe itself. Everything about it is so un-natural yet so familiar, and with its "face" being a centre point of light that almost looks like it follows you wherever you go, it gives me that feeling that this thing was the centre of the universe. Another thing I found interesting is in the descriptions given of this thing. If this creature is the embodiment of order and how the universe works, then that could mean killing it would be physically breaking the order of the universe. Which strikes a similarity and contrast with Dark souls, as that entire series is about a broken order of the world, and trying to get out of it or fix it in any way possible. Which brought me down a big rabbit hole that made me think that Gwyn and the rest of the "Gods" from Dark souls aren't gods at all, but just simple lords with a lot of power. Like the Tarnished. I found it so powerful that when you beat the Elden beast it says "God Slain". It has that impact that, not only did you confront this creature of extreme strength and power for the first time, but you defeated it at that same time as well.
The Beast's "skeleton" seems to also be filaments, which are walls consistent of superclusters that are themselves bound together. This thing is literally an entire universe in and of itself, apparently.
Shit and I thought I was the only the one with this notion, and it's really amazing to be honest that at first I thought I was wrong and it even made a big bang. Rad and magnificent
@@notthalis9545 To further suport this theory, the Elden Stars incantation tells that the Greater Will one day sent a beast that would later become the Elden Ring.
Radagon is surprisingly....... attractive. To go with his immense poise and SWAG. Deep lore states that the Elden Beast is of the same species as Astel, the Naturalborns and are sent by the Greater Will. The only difference is that Elden Beast is just yellow 🤣🤣🤣
I love that this beast, after watching its thrall fail to defeat you, literally transmogs his ass into a literal weapon like he'd be more useful that way...
What’s crazy is despite Radagon not having a speaking line, unlike most of the other bosses, his design alone shows a lot about his character. He just looks tired and broken, just like the Golden Order he swore himself to. But he’s going to perform his duty to it nonetheless. Such a fantastic and simple design.
I wonder if Marika was left handed while Radagon is right handed. Makes sense since the left half of him is blown up. Probably happened when she busted the Elden Ring.
Personally I think the Elden Beast is...kinda cute? Like a funny li'l alien guy. Well, big alien guy. I like his stubby little legs and arms and dinosaur-like neck and chubby, roly-poly body.
@@junjiitowafflehouse9750 What did it for me was his attack when he hammers at the ground 3 times, I actually got chills. It really makes you feel an echo of when the Elden Ring was shattered
I like that the cosmic elements are more a sense of wonder and awe rather than creepy and "lovecraftian". Even Astel, although the head was creepy, looked like a bunch of celestial bodies attached to dragon fly wings. And the art design always reminded me of tarot cards and loved the focus on astrology.
Looking at Radagon I was struck by the beauty of his design, and the moment Elden Beast came and I realized these little things under its abdomen were LEGS, my howls of laughter covered the choirs of the music
Radagon is strangely attractive, I don't know why his design really strikes with me, I really wish there was a model of him before looking like a broken mannequin. oh, and the Elden Beast immediately reminded me of the Source of All Living Matter from SnK😱
The Elden beast is so pure and majestic that it reminds me of the Forest God’s Night Walker form in Princess Mononoke. It also has a similar entrance. But has anyone noticed how the sword he’s holding has something similar to a human rib cage? Also, the two blades merging into one hints at Radagon and Marika’s story. It’s just a hypothetical thought, but makes sense to me.
I definitely noticed that about the sword! Kinda philosophical, but made me think that the elden beast is metaphysical, and works through us, as physical beings. So we are it's sword
Well, the Elden Beast pulls Radagon's corpse under the "water" and pulls him back up in the form of a sword. Look closely and the blade is kind of fleshy as well.
So lore-wise with the Elden Beast, I think it's definitely one of the more intriguing bosses with it's role in Elden Ring. Judging from the beautiful arena we fight the beast in, there is more then one Erdtree that pertains to the Greater Will, which could tie back to maybe why were able to play multiple NG's on the same save file, as From has the tendency to give a vague reason as to why we're able to do such a thing. It might also imply that there are more worlds that span across different dimensions, with the Greater Will having it's hands in all of them, which is probably how it gets so much power/influence with the amount of worlds it inherits it's powers too/from. Reading the remembrance of the Elden Beast, you can see how powerful this Greater Will is, as the description gives the impression that it is something entirely above the beast, like another God that sent down the beast to be more of a observer for this world, with it's purpose to make sure that the Golden Order is looked over with how it should be. It can also be read that the Greater Will itself sent a small portion of itself within the beast, given the use of the word "vassal" in the description, and would make a lot more sense after you kill the beast and the screen pops up with the text "GOD SLAIN", as you did technically kill the god, even if it was a small portion of it. You can see the big scar/shattering area that on it's belly, more then likely because of Queen Marika's actions of shattering the Elden Ring, crippling the beast in some way as a result. I think there's a lot more to read about with it's role in different areas of the game being unknown, like its relationship with the multiple finger factions that are in the game, if it is responsible for the merging of Radagon and Marika (if they were even different entities to begain with), and if it's true intentions with bestowing the Golden Order. From definitely took a book out of Bloodborne's concept with the Great Ones and entities greater then what we see, but I'm not complaining because I think they approached both ideas in a interesting way. One game looks at how these god-like beings bestowed the foundation/fundamental rules of the world it inherits, while the other game makes these entities look at escaping the fundamental rules of the world that they exist in.
Elden Beast is literally Elden Ring, which is basically all great runes - logo of the game (from description of elden stars spell), Marika is the vessel of Elden Ring (meaning she's the vessel of Elden Beast), that's why Elden Beast has scar in the same place where Marika was stabbed with that spear-thing.
I love how you can actually see the elden ring inside him/her, showing that they don't posses the elden ring, but actually ARE the elden ring To shatter the elden ring is to shatter marika
He's so pretty and I was looking for a closer look at him and turns out he's more prettier, the biggest compliment I've got that one of my friends said he reminds him of me.
I find it really cool that if you look past all of the cracking and open parts of his body you can very clearly see that he was a pretty good looking guy, esspecialy compared to MOST of the other bosses who have marred faces or wear masks.
probably wierd to say but I could fall asleep to elden beast's theme, it's just so peaceful and relaxing. and although radagon's theme cheats a little bit by being a reprise of the main theme it's probably my favourite on the soundtrack.
i find elden beast just so incredibly lame and boring to fight, i wish they'd just have given radagon a proper 2nd form and made elden beast optional like the moon presence in bloodborne. like i don't HATE it exactly, but it's a rly weird finale to finish on. it also kinda reminds me of gaping dragon minus a pair of legs and added noodle neck lol.
I imagined with the state he is in and the golden power flowing through him all the way to his brain that the greater will or (most likely) the elden beast was using what's left of him as a puppet to fight you.
