For those interested in a radar detector I highly recommend the channel Vortex radar he is the lethal garage of radar detectors and based off of his videos it seems like the Uniden R3 is the best detector and it's $400

I seen the same thing as far as that guy and the R3. I was wondering if the cable Lethal has would plug into the R3. Also was wondering about that sweet rear view mirror mount he has.

Worked great for me with my Unidien R3, saved me a lot of work by not having to disconnect the other 5-6 connectors as the Gen5diy instructions show. On other thing, you can fish the phone connector forward between the windshield and headliner so the wire is even less visible. Thank You

Hi Matt is this harness still available for sale? I have a 2020 Camaro 2ss, purchased the Valentine V1 gen2. Trying the find the simplest kit for installation, went to Gen5DIY and I see the longer kit you run by door panel and over head but I like the short plug and play set up.

Got impatient waiting for this video and tried it myself. 2 days ago. I probably would have saved time if I had seen this first. I ended up disconnecting all of the harnesses in my overhead console to get to the correct one. If I had been a little more patient and waited two days, I’d have saved time... Oh well! I see that you have a BlackVue dashcam. How did you run the power to the cam? I was actually thinking of running the power to mine from the same place as you are showing in this video for your radar detector. Thanks in advance for any information.

Hey Matt, two yrs down the road now since powering down issues of the R3. Who better to ask what is the scoop with Gen 6 and Uniden R3 detectors using Gen5DIY hardwire harnesses? Are all bugs worked out? No powering down with wheelspin, check engine light issues or any new issues surfacing. Just purchased an R3 for my 19 2SS 1LE and wanted to buy the harness but hoping all issues are now resolved. Any news you can share. Thanks man.

Yeah... I havevread the initial harness caused the detector to randomly power down upon wheel spin and also caused some check engine lights to pop up on dash. I thought they offered a revised harness for replacement to those who purchased original harnesses.

Gen5DIY is awesome!!! Great mod especially for the GoPro. Only thing left is a radar detector mount from the passenger visor bolt like I had on my 5th Gen.

Two questions: 1. I saw another video, where to install a similar set up, the person had to do something or make some adjustments in the fuse box under the hood. That was kind of what deterred me from wanting to go this route, but I guess this is all you have to do? 2. I have a convertible 2SS. Do you know if there are any differences with the home link panel that needs to be removed/the wiring within? Thanks in advance!

The convertible has a slight different install step due to the hard mount part on the front panel. But it is very much plug and play, no fuse box touching needed.

Nice vid as always! The wire should come out at the front of the headliner where your dashcam wires are coming out though in my opinion it's MUCH cleaner. Unless it's not long enough to go that way, in that case I wouldn't be able use it.

Hey, I have a Gen 6 Convertible. I purchased this radar harness and although there are several videos, including this one, that detail installation for hard tops, there’s nothing out there for convertibles. I’m hoping you can help. Have you worked with anyone that had the same issue? I’ve reached out to Gen5DYI - no response. I’ve checked RU-vid as well as the Camaro forums. No luck. Help.

OK you just made me think of something..... That stupid white light that stays lit all the time (Annoying as hell at night) is on a circuit board of some sort...... I'm sure you have connections to see if you can get different color circuit board lights or whatever you want to call them.... I'd be very interested in this!

Thanks for the detailed explanation , I bought R3 Radar and Blackvue 590w which i need to install both of them, the harness that i purchased for the radar from Gen5diy said it will have extra leads for dash cam, Can we use the same cables for blakvue or i should be following the same way like how you installed Power magic on your machine by directly running cables to Fuse box?

Which mirror mount did you use? I got one from Radarmount and it doesn't fit the Camaro right. It won't allow me to adjust my mirror back to where I keep it set.

If you wanted to extend the radar detector plug wire you could use a phone cable with a clip in coupler, easy peasy.

Using these jumper cables on the C8 is causing damage to the side mirrors due to the jumper cord having a higher voltage than stock. Has this been a problem on the camaro?

Gen5 does not offer this set up for the C8 Corvette. But zero issues with the Camaro.

You should look into a Blendmount. That radar mirror mount you've got seems awfully flimsy, given how much it moved around. Blendmounts are pretty spendy, but they will keep your RD dead level and have a patented spring clip that keeps your RD from rattling around. I've had them in all my cars. Well worth the $.

I have blend mount too and it fits snugly under the mirror so it looks factory. Many do not even see the radar detector until it goes off...
