eh I managed to get rx 6800, almost managed to get 6800xt but sadly didn't. But jayz2 said that rx6800 is better because it's cheaper and you can get almost same performance

The real question is: "What's with the old Flagships?" Should cards like the 980 Ti be called High-Low-End? Or Low-High-End? Old-Range? Is paying 400$ now ,for twice the power of a 400$ card back then, a bad deal?

when we talk about "budget" gaming then the resolution is 1080p and below. you don't need RTX3060Ti at such resolution. even the likes of RX580 still offer plenty of performance at 1080p.

I guess it depends on how much more mileage people can get from 1660/5600/2060 GPUs (even though they weren't very budget friendly for a lot of people). They should lst until Nvidia and AMD paper launch compelling budget GPUs next year

@Cringy Man Steve hits hard on the 6900XT as he doesn't want a more costly product next generation from AMD (he obviously doesn't touch on Nvidia, you can't help there). But these performance graphs are on launch... that's a Radeon card and as such it will only get faster... Last and only other time AMD was on top was the R9 290X - one claimed "too hot and worse" than the "competeing" 780ti or whatever it was - priced DOUBLE the 290X (ah wait, that was for the 290 non-X, anyway both were way cheaper, it's likely you already know this). The 6900XT is a solid result for AMD, last time was the Bulldozer crisis (Sandy bridge was a deliberate intel move - 2500K i5 and 2600K i7 - you know behind which numbers (on the hundreds) they stand now). This time AMD is in a comfortable position, and are just getting warmed up - the 3090 shows Nvidia are shitting themselves already. Once AMD get a stronger presence in the software ecosystem the comparison is going to look pathetic... that's for this gen, what about the next? Anyway I would love to see Nvidia leaving the GPU business and all their *aggots being left without support - they will have to switch to linux for drivers, it's gonna be soo good. I don't fear monopoly, getting these Nvidia royalties and stuff will be better for everyone. Yes, the 6900XT is overpriced, that's clear. In fact it's a bit poor marketing - not releasing a water cooled version alongside this (now that would make much more sence). But we are definitely going to get such from the board partners. One from AMD wouldn't be bad, but you would likely go for a non-reference model once such become avaiable, so anyway the 6900XT will get a revisit once models and stock arrives. Also let's not forget that RDNA can still compute, miners are gonna love it. And on benchmarks... what limits a PC is always software. It's 2021 and we still get single-core style code, I don't have knowedge for GPUs but it's definitely not any better there. I'd suggest we stop buying shitty, unoptimized (or brand-optimized) software if we want any better.

Another 9 months later and rx 6900 xt goes for €829 in my country

Another 4 months later and I just got a 6900xt for $596 new on Newegg. The XFX Swift version

The 3090 if interpolation was in compute would be an 8k beast. That's where you pissed off nvidia right there. Its value is memory bandwidth ipc staying power under insane workloads.

Depends on the workload. We only just flipped into development teams with widespread raytracing hardware even on consoles.

For gamers.... 3090 is so much better for production work/developers who require over 24GB of VRAM since the 3090 supports NVlink.

Linux wise, AMD GPUs run excellent. Well, that is if the developers developed the necassary drivers, without forcing the consumer, who is not a terminal wizard, doing configurations.

Now the 6900xt is 1000 euros cheaper than the 3090 and same price as 3080 here so it makes perfect sense in that regard xd

however some games and programs like adobe work better on the nvidia side, but amd has some titles on it’s side too, like assassins creed valhalla, regardless amd is a little bit weaker on the ray tracing side, compared to nvidia, the difference isn’t huge, it’s like 15fps difference, but still, imo all those things should be pointed out so buyers have a better idea

Ofcourse. Thats the standard to measure performance. The lower the resolution the more accurate performance measurement.

@@darchandarchan7036 I don't think so, his latest database is already using benchmarks from the 3090 so it's hard to redo everything on the 6900xt, and the difference is not rly decisive for the 6900xt and ray tracing performance is better tested on nvidia, so he might keep the 3090 for cpu benchmarks

True. Then again, it's those prices that also help AMD and Nvidia further fund their consumer-grade divisions. Plus, it's better to have overpriced top-end that the rich minority of gamers will buy anyway vs overpriced mid-range or overpriced low-end that almost nobody will buy.

Unreasonably priced? For a top of the class GPU, I dont think $1000 is unreasonable? For example, here in NZ, a custom RTX 3090 costs $3000, while the rx 6900xt costs $1800. I am very happy with the pricing of AMD.

6900xt is priced 999 only because of nv..they would never ask 1000 for a consumer gpu..they are just playing with nv and their overpriced products..midrange, that's a different story, that's the most important place..

The smart access memory raising lows would also be very important for vr. It could be a great exploration.

Geforce is the way to go if you want the highest performance in VR. If you just play HL:A it doesn't really matter. As a flightsimer I bought a RTX 3090 and a 5900x and it's just enough for 90fps.

6900xt need flawless big Navi chip... there won`t be Many of those for years!

In two years, all of those cards will be pointless due to RT. Raster performance will be less of a focus and RT will be where the money is. Minecraft and Quake are the only fully traced games right now and they absolutely destroy any card.

Probably did you a favour. It’s pretty dumb to spend 50% more for single digit gains, no DLSS and laughable Ray tracing performance. At least the 3090 had more memory to give it some sort of justification

I'm mostly glad I won't have to rely on Nvidia. I would've gotten RDNA 3 instead, but I'm not sure if my 9600GT will hold me up for much longer (although my target for game development for now might be 2D and Blender shouldn't be that slow).

Ultra Crazy Very true. I do wish AMD did more for the professionals in the software division though. EDIT: Nvidia has CUDA and many dedicated tools just for the professionals. What does AMD have besides AMD-exclusive Blender ProRender and the countless open source tools that Nvidia and Intel users can use too?

in reality the gpu cost should only be 12% (inflation) higher then it was in 2013 or the 780ti if you will doubt the 2080ti has much to do with anything think it started with the 1080 which was essentialy a mid range card sold as a high end card

All of you seem to forget that if you want THE BEST gaming GPU, there is no other than what 2080ti was or now 6900xt and 3090. Its just how it is. Some people have a lot of money and they dont really care about price to performance. They just care about performance and well it is expensive.

@@mix3k818 for this particular card, is it's price point, i think. And CUDA wasn't so 'mandatory' in engineering computation stuff, as openCL is available and SYCL is quite promising.

The 3090 is available just fine here. But it's not $1500,it's €2000.

I had an AMD powered rig for gaming in 1996, with an AM486-DX100 which absolutely destroyed the official Intel 486 at the time. With a huuuuge 4MB of RAM, and no GPU because I was waiting for the Pentium to come out! Lol and then it was Pentium Pro MMX plus Voodoo 2 Banshee GPU... like doing drugs but still being able to get a hard on :D

RDNA2 is unbelievably scalable, likely due to that large sram cache alongside the immense number of efficiency improvements. I'm sure even AMD was impressed by it when they were developing it. Bodes well for those exynos chips coming out next year.

There’s very few people to whom that extra 8GB matters once you already have 16GB. It would either result in lower margins for AMD or higher prices for customers, both of which would be a net negative.

Yup, I agree with all of you thus far as well as all of the RX 6900 XT reviews I've seen this morning all saying that the RX 6900 XT makes no sense for AMD and do not buy. The RX 6900 XT is barely 10% faster than a RX 6800 XT but far more expensive.
