I often feel so ashamed at being part of a gender that could cause such pain to other humans. I swore as a teenager that I would NEVER lay a hand on a partner. I hope I never find myself in such a position.

I hear you mummy i stayed for 9 nine years in an abusive marriage when you talk of sleeping without fear i can relate very well ...its not easy to leave ..2 and half years later am getting on my two feet with my kids...God is gracious...Thanks for sharing this story.

Same here Beth!!! I left mine after 10 years of abuse with my 3 kids with no money, just clothes we were standing in. Went to a refuge for women and slept like never before. A year on I am still finding myself and God has been good to me!!! Sending love and hugs

Don't be scared. Just be your healthiest self by taking care of your mind and body and it will help you make the right choice. For me therapy helps me balance out my decisions. I chose my ex husband because he was a good man with a kind heart but he also had emotional trauma from growing up in Iraq. He used alcohol to numb the pain and he would not go get treatment. I did stay too long and it became an emotional burden. The key is that if a relationship is not in your best interest leave the relationship whether it be a love relationship or a friendship. . A relationship should not always be hard work. There should be at least 80% good times. A dating coach I listen to say don't judge a man how he was at the first 30 days of your relationship but the last 30 days. He says men should do the same. My parents were together for over 50 years. They were best friends as well as husband and wife. What I am looking for now is a strong friend relationship with love/sex as the icing on the cake.

The lowest ebb is the turn of the tide,I walked out of that kind of a marriage five years ago without a dime and two kids now we are better off,Surely God will never forsake his children...thank you for sharing,women suffer a lot sometimes torn apart to leave or to stay for the sake of the kids, its painful. One can never understand unless you've been there.

Abuse can be physical or emotional BUT the underlying word is ABUSE!!! I don't allow abuse of any kind,i might not know the right channels to handle but if I can walk, then walk away without looking back if I can't I warn you and block you outright without fear or worry, you simply don't exist in my life
