Thanks for uploading this, kinda like all of my past and present passions put together along with the undertone of humanity moving towards a bright future of working with what grows around us.
Very cool stuff. Just found you, and I'm immediately subscribed! I've a lot to learn from you mycologist folks. Y'all's study, videos and corrections are so helpful to so many of us. I will, therefore, offer a small criticism in the spirit of mutual betterment and personal edification. So please pardon the correction, but the narrator misused the term "ontological" when referring to "an ontological question". I don't know what type of question the narrator was asking, but I'm certain it isn't an ontological one. 'Ontological' is a philosophical term referring to 'ontology', a branch of metaphysics. If I recall correctly, the term 'ontology' is used by philosophers to mean 'a theory or list of types of things that exists. Examples of ontological questions are whether or not there are minds or brains or both (or neither!); whether or not 'god' refers to anything real; whether brains have beliefs and desires or mere electrochemical activity in neural matter; etc. Hope that's helpful (and only a little annoying). Thanks again for your great content! Peace
when the fungi digests used cigaret butts, what happens with the toxins in them from the tobacco? are they left in the fungi or are they also broken down?
Hello Pete, great and interesting video ! I have been wanting to purchase your book but I cannot find the book anywhere, any suggestions ? Please keep up your great work !!
Regarding pollution , during war years in Iraq , the whole country's LABs destroyed and leaked to Tigris and Euphrate River streams , it happened while ago , any recommendation ?
I would love that future cigarette butts would be made from some sort of mycelium polymer filter... Then that problem would be fixed at the root. Should be quite easy to produce at large scale, when proper substrate material, mushroom strain etc. Has been figured out. Just cut out the filters from the substrate...
Hydrocarbons (oil) are broken down into simple carbons that other organisms can consume. The Mycelium feeds via a saprotrophic digestion meaning it digests its food externally from its body. It secretes enzymes that neutralize heavy metals, hydrocarbons (motor oil, etc) and even radiation. The mushroom you see with the usual phallic shapes is just "fruit" of the entire organism that lies below the surface in the form of mycelium.
