That's for sharing, your insight is very helpful. I'm 65 and Gleason of 7. I'm due to my surgery in a week. I pray all goes well. I will keep you posted.
11 yrs post. No symptoms prior did the evaluation from advice from my personal physician. Had heard very little about prostate cancer prior. Later 5 to 6 guys from work were diagnosed. Life looks better after surgery. Very Thankful.
Thank you for this video! I am nine days post-surgery and catheter removed. 100% cancer free. I watched all your videos. They helped me to make this huge decision. Bless you and I pray you stay cancer free.
Thank you so much for this this information. I'm age 63 and have already had triple bi-pass surgery 1 1/2 years ago due to ancestry not terrible habits. I am now facing a radical prostatectomy in October and truly appreciate that I now know what to expect because of this video. It's the unknown that unnerves me and now I know. Thank You
I had my prostate removed robotic. In four months ago. Thank you for sharing you updated. I’m 65 and feel great. PSA had no detectable. Number were normal. Bless you friend again.
I’m 58yrs old 8 days post surgery & you are in point my brother. However I can tell you that in the pain department 0-10. My pain has been about 1 to maybe 1.5 at its worst. I did experience little leakage from pushing during passes. The medications constipates you somewhat & also causes acid reflux. I was afraid & over anticipating but the reality proved to be significantly less in every way. Thank you for your post!
Just had this surgery at Guys hospital on 25 April 24...I can honestly say, there was no pain at all afterwards. I had the best surgeon ever (Paul Cathcart) who is nothing short of legendary in this field. My big mistake was attempting to drink a glass of port the day after surgery and boy, the burning in my you know what would make your eyes water. Never again. I'm now on day six since the event and for me, the catheter is a real nuisance. I too am happy to answer any questions you may have. Don't be scared, your fear is much worse than the event, trust me
Hi, Can you gv some advice on what should be expected after the surgery? My dad will undergo this surgery soon within 2 weeks, and as his caretaker I m not sure how it will turn out after the surgery. It would be good to get some advice or tips about surgery after care.
People like you is the reason why I watch YT. Sharing personal experiences medical or otherwise is so valuable. So many men in my family have been in your shoes. Glad you are recovering well. Sending you and your family kind regards from Ontario 🇨🇦
You're such a brave person sharing this very personal story so that it will calm any fears while giving hope to others contemplating this procedure. I wish you all the best and that you are still cancer free.
@journeyon1983 I appreciate drummeruss' information. It has been quite helpful and I thank him for taking the time to make this video. But I would not call it "brave." If you haven't been infected by christian-created tabboos and culturally imbued shame, there is no reason not to discuss one's urogenital system matter-of-factly without fear or shame or discomfort. I can talk about my genitals all day without any problem, or your genitals or anyone's genitals. By the way the United States is where nursing women have long been expected to cover their breasts, and their babies, when nursing in public places. Shows that despite the claim that we care about children, we don't really. We are more concerned about protecting the moronic sensitivities of idiots who don't want to see nursing mothers and nursing babies.
Hi, drummerruss, many thanks for your insights. As I write this, I’m five days post surgery, and your tips have been helpful. Wishing you the best in continued recovery. - Gene
Good man for sharing these small but important facts, often it is these things that tend to get overlooked pre surgery, that can cause unnecessary pain and worry. Wishing you an uneventful and speedy recovery. Regards from Tasmania, down under.
Thank you for for insight, I’m in the process of going through the same journey and greatly appreciate your information. Wishing you well.... thank you for posting your experience......
Thank you so much for this. The worry or fear of the unknown is a lot of times worse than the actual experience. Again thank you. God Bless you and I hope you are doing fine.
I'm just over a week away from my operation and even though I have friends who have been through the same thing and told me all about it i have not had something as candid and informative as your video. Thank you.
Very helpful. Thank you so much. I am having mine done in the next month or two and am llearning a lot from people whi have gone through it like yourself. Best of luck and I am looking forward to viewing your 2nd video right now.
First, I’d like to say I hope you are healing well. This information your giving will help countless men. Very detailed and honest. Thank you very much and continue on a good path to recovery.
It’s been 5 years since this post want you to know your video is still helping people! My dad has tons of issues and he is thing of doing the surgery. I showed him your video so we could discuss it and allow him to come up with his own questions for when he meets with the doctor! Thank you again!
What a tonic I an also 63 and 6 days post op.I identify with EVERYTHING that you have detailed and you have given me so much more confidence now that things should ease daily.Thank you.
Hello from the UK. Thanks for this reassuring video. I too was Gleason 7 (T2A). My experience aligns with yours completely, except my main wound became slightly infected. You looked really good in the video for six days! Thanks for posting!
Just about to be released this morning, everything went very well. Stomach somewhat sore but I’ll survive. Thanks to you and others I was mentally well prepared for this procedure. Thanks again and God Bless!
Thanks so much for the information, I go in tomorrow for the same procedure. You’ve eased my mind and I feel very positive about the procedure. My best to you for a full and speedy recovery!
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at 52 didn't know what to expect im day 2 of post surgery. I'm a little sore but otherwise very grateful the surgery went well so glad I found your video prayers to you and everyone that is or will be going through this. Im thanking God that there will be no more cancer found after this and just trying to get through this 🙏 Your video is definitely encouraging again thank you for sharing.
You are to be commended on your fortitude, your level of articulation on this subject, and the hope you have given many others in the same situation. A testament to human kindness.
Thank You Very Much for your videos. I had robotic prostate surgery 4 days ago and I had found this video the day before I had surgery. I think I am going to do a similar video and I will refer anyone to watch your videos, also. Just watching the first one before surgery really helped me mentally!!
Wow! I applaud you for being so open and honest about this and really appreciate you sharing your experience! Please keep living your life and enjoying it! (Again, thank you for your video)
Thank you!! I’m having same surgery next week. Fairly young, 52, but family history. I’m considering it a tune up for the next 50 years!! Glad you are well and this is greatly appreciated!
What an amazing report: simple, wise, optimistic, realistic. You (and your wife) are taking great care of yourself, and that helps with the healing process. May you be as blessed as you have blessed so many people online.
Thank you so much for being so brave as to share your recovery. I have surgery in one month. Since getting a clear bone scan and MRI, not afraid of the surgery. Like you, just be glad to get this cancer factory out of me, 71 with a Gleason score of 8.
Even after 4 years you don't know how helpful your video is; godsend to new patients. You are so kind and thoughtful to give so many pointers that are not in the post-surgery handout. You are looking great. All the best to you.
Good review of helpful things to watch for post surgery! Yes, we both have very similar things, but I'm bigger & heavier, so I needed meds for the pain. I'm 1 day post surgery & your right on. 👍
Thanks for sharing this. I have my surgery in 12 days and very glad to see a "real" persons post operative accounts. It is VERY helpful and helped aleviate some of my fears pre-op!
I'm grateful that i found your video. I'm 59 and was just diagnose with prostate cancer. My PET scan showed that it my cancer is still within the prostate. My Gleason score was 7( 4+3). I will have my surgery on 11/29. Your video has really help me. My wife passed away in 1/16/23 so it will be adult kids assisting me. Thanks again for this video and i wish you a great recovery.
@@frage-zeichen My surgery went well. I’m approaching four months post surgery and feeling great. The first few weeks after surgery was a struggle. My latest PSA undetectable at 0.01. My doctor said I have healed well. I just started wearing the shield. I only have leakage if I am doing something strenuous. Doctor started me on low dose of Cialis to help jump start getting an erection back. I’m hoping that will return soon. I was cleared to start exercising so I’m slowly getting back to it. Thank you so much for checking in and thank you for the encouraging videos. God bless!
@@MrThunderdome64 I am glad you are doing well. For me today is 8 days post surgey, I am 58 years old. I find your comments very helpfull. If all goes well for me I guess I will be following your steps. Honestly I have been trying to stay positive but I am worry about all those risks or consecuences of not having a prostate. What ever happens I will do my best. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much for the honest feedback and information. I’m having the surgery a month from now but am doing my research on the post surgery. I’m 50 years old and have a Gleason score of 7 as well. All the best with your life going forward and being cancer free
Thank you for your helpful chat. I'm turning 71 and having this procedure soon hopping to be as lucky as you. Hope you are living a normal life already and wish you the best. Thank you again..
Hope all is still going well for you. Had my DaVinci assisted RP just over 4 years ago at the age of 54. Showing clear results at last follow up, and life is good :)
I was looking up catheter removal & stumbled upon you. Thank you for sharing , exactly what my 54 year old husband is going through...Gleason score, 6 days out, abdominal soreness, Depends, etc. Always good to hear from someone who’s gone through it!
Thank you for your generosity in sharing this information. I was just diagnosed, and I’m looking at options. PSA 3.8, Gleason score 4+3 for seven, scared as hell. Only 57. My father passed away with prostate cancer 25 years ago.
Ed here, had surgery 1.5 yrs. ago and it was tough a few days. my friends had the new proton therapy radiation with gold pellets inserted and it maybe easier with less loss of functions. I have no erections, no leakage as another friend does. had hernia surgery yesterday, dont know what popped the gut, but it is picnic compared to prostate surgery.
Hope the videos were helpful, prayers for 100% recovery! I’m at four years and three months post surgery, doing well and still active on this posting. Men write to me from all over the world and it’s so good to hear that my experience is helpful to so many. Blessings!
My 77 year old husband just has his done 2 days before Thanksgiving 2020. He had zero complications! No pain at all. No pain meds and he was released from his Flomax meds that he'd been taking for 18 years. He had no cath issues at all. This has been a positive experience for us all around. He was diagnosed with a gleason 8 and he just had his PSA its at zero! Praise God for our excellent Dr and his expertise in 3D Robotics. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you for this video. This coming Monday 7/9/24, I will have the same surgery that you had. This information was VERY HELPFUL! I pray that your recovery continued to progress well. Thanks again.
@@jamieshipley8963 Two weeks after surgery, I am doing great. No pain. Once the catheter was gone, it became so much easier. Getting used to using the Depends 24/7 is still an ongoing issue. But we are dealing with it. Still a bit weak, but improving daily. I pray that you are doing well now? Have you been able to completely retrain your bladder by now?
Thanks for sharing your story with those who will or just had surgery. During the first week after surgery, while sleeping, the bag holding the urine broke open at the drain site. I suggest placing the bag next to your bed in a bucket. Also, you may want to get an extra band aid which holds the urine bag in place on your upper thigh. .
Had mine removed on 9/10/21, all the same as you've mentioned, however; the lymphnode removal caused me some major issues. Even after the drain was removed the nodes conrtinued to leak. A couple weeks out of the hospital and I started feeling pain in my left leg and at the very top of that same leg. It continued to get worse but I kept thinking rest it and it will resolve itself. Then my legs were swollen and I could almost not fit into my pants, had to wear my bathing suit. Then I started getting the chills, they would last for 6 hours as I was unable to warm up, blankets and 80 degree weather. Went to the doctor the next day, found I was septic. I had a blood, kidney and bladder infection, all caused by the leaking nodes. Normally the nodes seal up in a week or two but mine were fiesty and wouldn't seal till after "four" months, and there were procedures done to help it to stop. I had three drains installed after the fact, had two additional hospitalizations, one for 9 days and another for 4 days. After 5 months I'm about to try going back to work (one week my ass!). Been doing my Kegals, still having issues with incontinence. Pretty much any activity can cause leakage, especially when engaging my stomach muscles. Was told this could last up to a year. Been trying Viagra to no avail, I mean I can still get an erection but it only goes to 80%, not good enough. Hopefully the next 7 months work things out.
Sorry to hear you’re having a rough time with the healing process. You will continue to heal for a couple of years or more. Hope all works out for you, blessings!
I chose not to have the surgery but rather went with the Cyberknife treatment. This involved no cutting and was painless with no downtime. 5 days of treatment each lasting about 45 minutes. As a treatment option for prostate cancer, this is by far the easiest. My current PSA is >.01and I full function.
How long after were you able to be fully functional mister ? And do you mean like 100 % ? Please let me know as I did the robotic type 6 month ago , and still not functioning. Thanks Leroy .
I have 6 weeks to go till my prostate removal surgery. Your videos that I've watched so many times now have given me a lot of confidence in going into this. Thank you so much for being so open you've answered many if not all of my questions. I praise Jesus for your healing and mine.
Just had my surgery over a week ago and I agree 100% with everything you have said. The only thing I would add is, make sure you take a stool softener or laxative after the surgery to make bowel movements easier. This will help alleviate any straining and leakage that you experienced. Also, there are times when I have an extreme urgency to urinate even with the bag and I found out it is a bladder spasm. Apparently, not everyone gets them but I ordered meds for it so hopefully that can be alleviated because it is a highly painful episode every time it happens.
I was told that painful feeling like your trying to pee thru a brick wall was spasm too. So I need to take some of those meds for that again. Prostate removed Aug 29 and bout forgot about those meds. Was originally scheduled to remove Dec of ‘22 but bladder tumor discovered during procedure put prostate off to deal with bladder. With the Two bladder TURBTs that peeing pain was excruciating. Fair amount of blood leaks there too now when trying to potty during this current recovery. Cath shifts sometimes half inch to and inch. Think I was told normal too but stills make you wonder. Can hardly wait til Cath comes out Monday. Thanks for your comment to this guy vid
Thank you for this video I'm caring for my brother who is mentally ill and just had this surgery. I needed to hear this good news.. Thank you!!! ☺ 💕 xoxox
I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your video. In two days, I head into robotic surgery, and I found your willingness to share your experience very comforting. Thank you so very much for your openness, and I wish you the very best of luck for a healthy life ahead!
Thanks for posting this. I’m 53 and 9 days post-op. Robotic procedure performed in Sydney (Australia). Some interesting points: Nursing staff had me showered the next morning (following surgery). Discharged from hospital after two days. Catheter removed after 7 days. I agree about leakage between catheter tube and urethra. It was mentioned but could have been explained better. I had blood and urine leakage which was concerning - but apparently quite normal. Now feeling much much better with minimal incontinence. I might post again in one if the more recent videos when I’m at that stage. Thanks again and good health to you!
I waiting for the same at RPA in 2024, Scott Leslie surgeon. How would you rate your ED and continence. I've doing the pelvic floor exercises and using the pump. Any recommendations?
Hello sir! I cannot thank-you enough for your thoughtful video. I'm 74 and was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has a Gleason score of 7 (3+4). So, I'm a grade II level. Surgery should take place in April 2024. For info for other gents, I got here after a meeting with my PP and informing him of my start and stop urination, as well as a low pressure stream. At that point in time, my PSA was and is 5.4, which had previously been a 4 for a long time. With all of that, he referred me to a urologist who performed a digital exam and found a hard lump on the left side of my prostate. The right side was clear. A biopsy follow-up revealed the cancer and that's when I decided to have surgery via the DaVinci method. So, for me, this video was quite informative and I'm grateful to this gentleman. Thanks again! A speedy recovery to you!
From one drummer to another, thanks for the video. My surgery is scheduled in a few weeks. I'm not worried about the surgery but the recovery. You set my mind at ease with your straightforward and honest approach. PSA 8.7, Gleason 4+3.
Diagnosed a few days ago, I'm also worried most about the recovery. I'm not a drummer, but a woodwind player and not looking forward to the downtime of not playing in my various groups.
Like you 5y ago I'm 63. No smoking, drinking or drugs. My PSA score has been high for years,(50), several biopsies all negative. The VA hospital sent me outside the system. I was told my prostate was 300 grams, a week later it's 347 grams. I really appreciate your story, thank you so much. Surgery is October 24, 2023.
I had the same surgery and I was able to walk the next day I was out of the hospital and I have cerebral palsy they kept warning me how bad it was going to be but what I went through my life with my legs prostate surgery for me was nothing compared to cerebral palsy
Thank you for sharing your experience, Im just being worked up for the same and absolutely terrified, a nice in depth explanation that scared me but also calmed me a little. Thanks again and good health to you sir.
Prayers for complete healing for you. Healing was slow for me but now that I’m almost 5 yrs out from surgery, I forget I even had it most days. All the best to you.
