As a kid in a nearly identical situation when this movie came out, I have a lifelong bond with this film. Single moms really have to be cautious of the people they introduce into their kid's lives.

i hated movies like this because they made it seem like you could do something about being abused. i ended up spending years of my young life in juvenile detention because no one in the system believed/cared that me and my siblings were being abused. i was deemed an unruly child, incarcerated and forced to take anti-psychotic medications. 6 months after being released, my mom was caught in a lie at one of my probation court hearings and then admitted to lying about the charge. The judge made her apologize to me and that was all they did about it.

There isn’t enough words to describe how much I love this movie, I grew up dealing with mental abuse all my life by my family. I instantly latched on to this masterpiece the first time I saw it. They don’t make movies anywhere near how they used to. I saw myself in those boys eyes. I get choked up thinking about how normal I thought life was, just a phenomenal movie

Experienced this as a child with my younger brother, and at 29 I finally understand the depth of this movie. As a kid idk, I guess i blocked out how relatable it was. Amazing, tragic movie.

I don't think many kids understood that the boy died was the only thing that bothered me or maybe that's the best thing about an already great movie. Punks like the stepdad will rarely face an actual man but have no problem beating a little kid

@@pCOCKPRO11 Tom Hanks says near the end of the film, history is all in the mind of the teller, truth is all in the telling. He described how he wanted to remember what happened, indicating that something else happened. Realistically looking at this, Bobby likely died when he was rushed to hospital earlier in the film, or when he went down the hill on the radio flyer. There's no way an 8 year old can fly away on that and somehow grow up becoming a pilot on his own.

I can't believe it! First, Donner collaborated with Jerry Goldsmith with the Omen, then John Williams with Superman and his cut of the 2nd film, then Michael Kamen with the Lethal Weapon films and even the epic composer Hans Zimmer with that flick? That man must be grateful to meet and work with those musical scoring heroes!

I know this may sound dumb to the masses, but, when I look at the buffalo and saw his eye my heart sunk. Maybe I'm too much a animal lover but I do love them and they do have souls. All's I could think of when I saw his eye was how terrible mankind has treated such a peaceful beautiful animal - we nearly annihilated all of them in the name of their pelts and $$. Well anyway. To give an idea how many buffalo use to freely roam go read about the Lewis & Clark expedition or go watch it on Ken Burns American Lives, I think Ep12. It's incredible.

Quando éramos crianças aceitávamos a versão que Mike adulto conta para os filhos, mas hoje como adulta percebo que o que aconteceu de verdade foi a perda de Bobby. Bobby não consegue voar. Bobby cai e morre. Assisti ontem a noite após anos sem ver, chorei muito quando a ficha caiu. Por isso não o vemos nos ares… pobre Bobby😞😔😭😭😭💔 muito triste.

Very raw movie and brings back pure childhood feelings to me watching the trailer. The most probable interpretation of the ending is that Bobby was only present in Mike‘s imagination. That blew my mind when I read today on IMDB user feedback. Need to watch it again soon. Love the movie very much

@@juliebella1221 Bobby didn't die. The guy who wrote the book and screenplay has said that the ending was meant to be taken literally. That the boys really did build a functioning plane and Bobby flew away. There was actually an alternate ending wherein the two boys meet back up as adults.

I never got why this film was panned by critics upon it's release back in 1992 because I honestly think it's an AMAZING motion picture personally. It's EASILY up there with "The Yarn Princess" and the "Gardens of the Night" in as far as they are all BRILLIANT drama's dealing with REAL LIFE ISSUES that unfortunately some people have to go through and deal with in real life.

My favorite part is when everyone thinks his little brother died from the abuse of his father but he sends his big brother postcards from everywhere he flew with the radio flyer and then you see that pile of postcards and that he's living his best life, which is a little weird cause a piece of you knows that father killed him but another piece wants to live in his brother's mind

If they made this film today, it would have taken place in the 90s because the Tom Hanks' character would have grew up in that era. That's the reason why they change the timeline for the Stephen King IT remake.
