I used to listen to these Japanese broadcasts from Radio Pyongyang when I lived in Japan in the 1980s. One of the shortwave stations that was very easy to pick up. Content was all propaganda of course, but that was part of the entertainment. Shortwave was a kind of narrow portal to the outside world, esp. as I lived in some fairly rural areas with zero sources of outside news. I could pick up BBC, US Armed forces radio, Radio Moscow, Radio Beijing, Radio Australia, etc. A bit of nostalgia remembering hunkering down on some snowy winter night, listening to the glorious deeds of the Great Leader!

I was wondering why so much of it sounded Japanese. They started their broadcast with "konbanwa" which means good morning in Japanese. The numbers were also in Japanese. I know Korean is considered part of the Japonic language family, but I didn't think they were so uncannily similar.

1. He’s speaking Japanese not Korean 2. They are just more enthusiastic now? How does that make them sound less “intelligent”? Or is that just because they’re speaking an alien language, all of the sudden, when they’re enthusiastic, it sounds barbarian or un-“intelligent” to you? 3. Enthusiasm is not not “normal” 4. If you were watching a football game on American TV or anywhere else in the world, when the commentator has more enthusiasm, do you think they sound unintelligent?

@@trunkssoto6257 Kim Jung Il didn't destroy the economy and he didn't kill many of his people. Sanctions did that, floods and droughts did that, and the collapse of the USSR did that (not to mention that Gorby slowly abandoned DPRK and had closest relationships with ROK). Kim Jung Il did anything he could to stop the famine and to reform the economy, but sanctions didn't allow it. Don't spread misleading about this great man.
