The first CalFire crew to lay eyes on it knew it was going to be bad. You can hear the responder say "this has potential for a major incident". God bless all that were affected by this horrible fire and the first responders that did all they could to save as many lives as possible.

We know how the story ends, this is moving and powerful audio. My dad lived in Concow for years, sold home before this fire and home was destroyed for second time. Less than 60 minutes from first call till spot fire on Hoffman Lane. Amazing ROS. Every address in audio in Concow is a rd I knew.

It is sadly odd that closed caption continues to state Applause.

The auto closed captioning for RU-vid recognizes that radio white noise in the background as applause.

I read the description. I hope all who have been affected by this fire are doing well now. I was just wondering, what was the final size of this fire? Thank you.

@@shaunconner295 I'm in Canada. A few years ago, Fort McMurray had a major fire, huge property losses and mass evacuation. It affected the oil industry. I don't know the final size but it wasn't extinguished until the following year. The province I'm located in, we experience between 300 to 400 wildfires a year. Due to our small size and climate, the fires sometimes reach thousands of acres. Last year, 18 kilometres from here there was a 2000 acre fire. 2 CL 415 from Quebec were called in to help. The Miramichi Fire was a cluster of large fires in 1825, that's where I live. 3 million acres, towns wiped out, many people perished. 1986 saw an outbreak early in the season, May. By the end of that summer, some 100,000 plus acres burned in many large fires. Again, we are only a small province here. Cheers from Miramichi. Stay safe.

Cal-fire needs to overhaul its communications system. You might as well be using tin cans and a long string during this event. They are chasing this fire rather than staging in front of it. They can't comprehend how fast it grew.

Literally almost every fire department In the state responded to the camp incident in some way shape or form. It would be almost impossible to get a list of all responding resources. At the peak I believe there were almost 9000 fire personnel on scene.

They certainly had enough trucks and crews on it right from the start. Just hard to get to and the fact it just took off without any strong signs it was going to do that. Still hard to comprehend.... Moving 80 football fields minute and covered the 7 and half miles to Paradise in a hour and a half. Still, it became apparent real fast what was going on and Cal Fire I feel dropped the ball regarding evac of Paradise. The evac should have started much sooner than it did. But in the end, a earlier evac may have really not made too much of a difference considering the entire town had to flee on the spot.

We'll never know. My issue is that evac warnings were heard over the radio, but not getting out to anyone in a timely matter, except via those of us on Twitter getting them out in real time. The system was just so overloaded.

@Roger Clemons No worries. The fire was a shit storm from the git go. Nothing was going to stop it. A lot of people died, but it could have been so much worse IMO. It was by far the worst fire I've covered since retiring, it's something I'll never forget and hope not to see again.

@Roger Clemons Congrats to your son, he did good. Is he i Batt 15, Temecula? If so I did 10 years down there before going to Jurupa Valley for 12 years. During my off seasons in 1985-86 I would jump on engines in San Diego, MVU, and go to fires. Earned me some bonus points and the captains were glad to have a 3rd body, firefighter, on the engine.
