I remember this from my childhood and teenage years. We listened to the Vatican Radio in our household in the then communist Czechoslovakia, even though my parents were not Catholics. It was a part of free world broadcasting to us, along with the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. Still makes me emotional.
Christus vincit!
when i was a kid in the 70s i had a pocket radio and sometimes jus listened to this. them nights . it used to bring me comfort. them nights are all gone
As a 14 years old back in 1964, one of my hobbies was building simple radios out of old junk moving quickly up to short-wave. The Vatican Radio tuning signal was my favourite but would fade in and out as though the devil were trying to drown out God's word! But, he never drowned it out completely! Satan, you are a loser and will remain so throughout Eternity!
They are still on in some languages such as African languages and English I listened on 15565 at 1630 UTC to Vatican Radio to Africa. They mentioned that this year is the 70th anniversary of the launch of VR's shortwave broadcasts to Africa, it started in 1950.
Joe H I was wrong, they shut down for europe, but they broadcast for the poor regions as VR say. But I heard this interval signal last week, at work (I work for an catholic radio in Germany) on one of our codecs, witch is connected to Vatican Radio. But most often they broadcast during break „Vatican Media - Deutschsprachiger Kanal.... Vatican Media - Deutschsprachiger Kanal...“ (German speaking Channel) and so on, until they start their Broadcast.
