thanks for the review. have been leaning towards the G90 as first HF rig because it is economical. an amp to boost operating capability beyond 20w is a nice option

This amp does require you to take some precautions with regards to your antenna/tuner. Also pay attention to the fluctuations in swr on the radio in the higher bands 👍

This will probably be the one I pick up, pretty sweet amp! I didn't know they sold a band filter, was looking into that, seems like a really nice filter for the price! 73 and yet another great video

Pay attention to the swr fluctuations when I transmit, they are higher on the higher bands.

I wonder how much it is with the band filter? I’ve been buying extra items for my Xeigu G90 carrying bag when I bought the radio. Sweet bag just for the G90 that I got on eBay.

You mentioned that you shouldn't use a tuner, would an external tuner work?

You can use a tuner between the amp and the antenna.

Cool video! Be careful of the PTT connector on the PAX100. The first one I had it broke off during filming.... To Radioddity's credit they quickly replaced it!

Excellent video! The real question is...20W vs 100W. I just bought the G90, and I'll be honest...I was skeptical. I honestly believe that I can successfully complete 9 out of 10 QSOs using 20W vs 100W, although the reports are usually 1-2 S units lower than what I would expect with 100W. 20W is definitely usable for what it is!

I like the Bioenno 15 amp battery. Glad to see that the G90 and Pax100 wouldn't go over 20 amps abd most likely 15...

They say you need a 20A supply mainly because most 15A supplies will have a significant voltage drop away when they are operating near max current

It may cost more but the Xiegu XPA125B is made for Xiegu radios and has built in tuner this amp has lots of good protection I got mine to run with the ic705 witch it works very well but with the icom its manual band change on the amp but used with the Xiegu G90 the band change is auto chris G0WFH

I've been checking it out but have been hesitant to drop the cash as I have a 7300 I use for my base station. That is awesome you got it to work with the 705!

Is there any way that you can use the amp, while doing digital modes? I can't figure out how to do it..

It's probably your power supply some claim "switching power supply " but when you increase voltage your power supply will drop amperage try test with a larger steady voltage and steady amperage out power supply or use a battery pack. And take temp readings at different bands at TX for 30sec

Pretty cool little amp. Really like the small size and portability. But as far as pricing, the G90 + PAX100 = about the same price as the FT-891.

I have this exact setup .. and dont use the CE19 as well .. I prefer the DigiRig and as you mentioned it uses the ACC port for the Sound. Did you every looking into it further? .. I got the kit that included the Lowpass filters as well but more curious if you tried getting Digitial to work with the pax100 and your setup

Thanks for the previous reply about the VFO knob on the G90, My main problem is that I have the G90 and the Pax 100 amplifier, On testing, when the PTT control is inserted into the G90, The G90 does not have any audio or indication that there is any radio signals, its the same was when the PTT cable is not inserted into the Pax. I had a external tuner (atu-100 EXT) showing sig gain on output on a 2-3 wat input to the amplifier, I am at a loss, I am 83, got my general last april, but limited knowledge on the problem, thanks.

I ended up not being a fan of this amp and stopped using it... Are you saying you get no RX or TX with the amp inline?

when correctly connected, the amp showed gain on a swr/tuner, so the TX worked, the rx had no signals on the waterfall. The ptt cable when connected to the G90 cancels the rx. I have disconnected the cable from the Pax100 and it still kills the rx@@TheSmokinApe

You should not use a PA without a Low Pass Filter on the output for the specific band you intend to operate. The Output from the PA will be full of harmonics and the signal will therefore be 'dirty' by definition. Your power meter is measuring the energy of all that crud as well as the wanted signal so I suspect a clean signal after the LPF will probably show 15% to 20% less power output. Its also important that you don't overdrive the amp otherwise the output quality will be full of intermodulation products -- as well as harmonics, making it worse for folks trying to operate close to your frequency. Adding a Power Amp is not as easy as it seems! 73 Bruce G4ABX

Are the fuses “slow blow” ?? Could allow for spikes to 20 amp for milliseconds to fractions of seconds

They are BS fuses (British standard) which is different in how ratings are designed to ANSI standard fuses. A 15A BS fuse will carry 15A continuously without blowing but will blow if you exceed that value (with a particular curve for time at different percentages over the value) An ANSI 15A fuse will blow at 15A

Really? 100 watts squeezed through an SMA connector? I don't know what power SMA's are rated for, but I sure would have preferred a BNC connector or SO-239 for the output! Other than that and a low-pass filter, it looks appetizing for my FT-817ND.

Ppl in the military use radios in the backpacks...can a civilian get that type of mobile equipment......??..if they can ..can u tell me what type if device it is, or make a vid on it.

Some radios do come with backpack options, the ic-705 for example. I don't have much experience with military radios but The Radio Prepper does feature some on his channel.

The reason y I asked, the features on the radio in the thumb nail have handles..it looks compact...looks small enough to be fitted into a pack system..but I dont know much about this type of equipment..just curious

On the video you said only resonant antenna. The screen capture you showed had the writing external tuner or resonant antenna. Here you said tuner after the amp ok, but that's different than what you said in the video.

What are They all selling these days? Is this FCC tested and approved? And no band pass filters build-in? It is normal that a solid state amp, without band-pass filters produces more power. So with the needed band-pass filters the output power will be lower. How about a test to show if this box produces spurious emissions on other frequencies. An amp in a plastic box? How about shielding? We are talking about a device producing RF here. All these new Chinese devices look like the lowest quality CB radios. They still need years to develop decent RF equipment as far as I can judge..

Can't find a FCC certification anywhere. The Radioddity site has all their certifications and this isn't listed. The Xiegoop XPA125 does have a certification. Who needs the FCC...I just wouldn't sit too close to it... you might start to glow.

It does have some filtering but I don’t think it’s sufficient or else there wouldn’t be an add on product, I do not see any FCC certification.
