I did manage to get a small discount which should work if you go through the main Radioddity website. Radioddity tell me that since my first video they have sold out on UK Amazon but are getting new stock soon. $15 discount buying link here. (search QT-80) radioddity.refr.cc/default/u/fredrose
Love ❤ you're vid's mate. I'm studying to get my UK amateur "foundation license". I'm in the meantime, I'm TXing on the PMR446. Tropospheric ducting, with only 500mw,. you will be surprised what half-watt can achieve in the right circumstances 😅 🎉
My CRT 9900 hasn’t seen light since January Fred, nothing wrong but lack of time out mobile work and other commitments looks like a nice upgrade plus it will cover 15m 12m 11m and 10m for under £300 bargain in my book, best not tell the boss, had a new HF radio in January so won’t push my luck. 73s Fred 26TG064 Tony
I am in the U.S. and I had to laugh when you said one would sound like a Dialect when the NR was too high. Only a Scifi nerd here in the U.S. would know what a Dialect is. It is very funny how all of us radio people around the world do the same thing when testing their audio, Good video I am on the fence about getting this radio or a President.
Totally AGREE. It would be well placed between freeband and HF gear esp with a waterfall screen. I recon they could ask £400-500 for it and it would still sell.
I have the Anytone previous model version and they do seem to have fixed all the irritations of that radio. The frequency selector double bounce, the unwantted change to a channel frequency, much improved frequency control with vfo mode and I think it looks better. Now, if the can just get the frequency dow n to 20m! Yaesu have just stopped making their qrp multiband and if this could be expanded to full HF, Wow. Nice video review Fred. Thanks for the video.
68CI67 got this wee radio 2weeks ago. It's absolutely an amazing wee radio. The report I'm getting on modulation 100%, been to the west coast of the USA from Belfast 73s
FYI for HAM and digital mode users: You can use the built in VOX/SPK mode on the QT80 (AT-6666PRO) and the new QT60PRO (short case) to do digital modes (FT8 / SSTV, etc) with NO external interface. Just a simple cable between the MIC socket and the PC soundcard is all that is needed. 73.
Fred that guy on 12 USB it's a recording. We have that problem here in the USA on 38 LSB. And mud duck mark Sherman on am 19... But great video always looking forward on your videos. You and ringway are real favorites here.. cheers from Alabama!!
Radio for SSB tunes down to 10Hz, ie: 28.455.0x, ones, tens, hundreds, from right to left, so, 28.455.hundred Hz. ten Hz. one Hz. No third digit like my iCom but hey, 10Hz is close enough for this type of radio. 73’
Hello Fred , I'm waiting for my qt 80 radio to arrive , but as to the look and size of the radio , I agree the lcd display could be bigger , and the push micro buttons could be turn type switches like the squelch and the on of switch , because to be honest , how many more anyclone type radios do we need , it's time to raise the bar and put all the good inners these rigs have into a mor aesthetically pleasing case. Steve 😊
Great stuff cheers FRED looks good and does exactly what it says on the tin, and I new that it would get hot, because just so much power, and yes you are right it definitely needs a fan, just like my CRT9900 , take care mate and hope to speak soon. 🍻💯👍
I’m a licensed ham (although inactive due to work commitments) I’m so far out of the loop and hadn’t realised that ssb & am are now allowed on the old 27/81 & cept bands 😮 I might pick myself one of these up!
These are amazing radios, I'm glad you are enjoying yours! They are equally at home on the HAM bands, as they are when expanded to do more. RX NRC on level 1 is fantastic here as well. FYI - Message received about the base station - it is being considered (but is not confirmed). :) 73
Agreed....larger homebase would be good....and I think they should have give you this radio for this review alone.....and perhaps a deeper delve under their guidance...they could refer future buyers to waatch and learn. Thanks for the very informative video.
Ssb squelch hint-go into menu ,select 'slow AGC' Squelch should now have some delay on closing. Ssb bandwidth 3/4khz think fab idea too. Dev Select 2.00 dev for CB/10m UK EU only 4.00 dev North America 10m only If wondering ? Split ctcss can be done if using as a parrot relay on single frequency ,so have semi duplex sub tones rather than using split tx.(Randy 3 compatible) Single ctcss DCS tones also available. There is audio out on the 6 pin mike for VoIP/parrot/FT8 data interfacing ,control is in radio menu. Glad your having fun Fred ,looks a winner 👍 Rob P 73's
just like the RADIO SHACK REALISTIC base station radios. put the guts inside of a box with its own power supply and front firing speaker would be a winner.
That QT 80 a big hit in the US. I have the QT 60 version. it is great. just 60 watts. does not heat up much unless on digital modes like SSTV and FT8 . With a DiGi Rig I got my QT 60 doing lots of digital. Like RTTY , JS8 Call . FT 4 , FT 8 and much more. I do not use CW but QT 80 has that threw mic jack. You can do a lot threw PC programming cable. You may be able to change one of the bands to UK 40. I have not5 had a QT 80 to try that yet. The QT 60 does let you change a band . like A to UK 40 CB ETC. Have to manually set each one. but you have to do that only once and send to redio . I put my mane on display. I was 1 digit short for my CALL sign. Cheers from NY, USA !

@@mostlypostie1 I am aware of that. I already own a Digi Rig and have the older QT 60 .I had to use EXT speaker jack and mic jack like most radios. Yes the newer ones make it easy ! 73
Wow this radioddity QT-80 is an amazing radio. İ would love to order one but it is sold out. Damn i hope it will be restocked soon. This is just a CB radio and a HF radio at the same time and if i am not wrong, this radio puts out about 100 watts P.e.P. Thanks for the review Fred. 73!!!
Fred, there is no difference between 40 watts & 80 watts it is half an S Unit difference on the receiving end. It takes 4 times the power to increase your signal by 1 S Unit. Great video thanks for the reviews. Both this one and the unboxing video. 73’.
Gday Fred, great series. Cheez I think Radioddity are moving in the correct direction with this one, the QT-80. I do very much prefer the Car size. Maybe RADIODDITY could offer an optional Base Station look-a-like drop in case for the bench . I'd like to see an OLed screen. The heat you feel on the back of QT80 is wasted Energy that is Not going up the Coax 👈 this needs to be addressed. It is the total deal breaker for me. Wasted Energy, Wasted Energy, Wasted Energy.! 👍👍😎
Thanks for the vid Fred, was looking forward to this one. Don't know how scalable Radioddity's design is to a base station, but most welcome if they decide to go that way. Would rather buy from a UK supplier as I hate dealing with UK customs, so hopefully Radioddity will throw some our way soon. If I do buy this, and am 80% as ot stands, then I might try and mod a fan All the best for two great summaries on the QT-80 Ian, Birmingham CT-5219
@@CB-RADIO-UK Duh, put the Radioddity QT80 in their website basket and there doesn't appear to be a customs issue, so bought it anyway with your discount code. Let's see how long it takes to come. Thanks again Fred 73s, CT5219
Just a hint fm HF radios- Some are setup for 5khz dev only Some hf ham radios can select nfm in they're menu ,then shouldn't be quiet on his hf radio. Can always use the dev select 2/4k if hf radios struggling to be heard .👍 Cb shouldn't cause this problem As they tend to be snfm-2.0k or nfm 2.50khz deviation Fred .
One question Fred, my 9900 distorts tx audio on anything less than 13 volts, does the new one do the same ?. And yes, a larger version would be great !.
Hi. It really should not do that even on full power as it can run on 12 volts (you get a low volt warning). I would check your amp pull as on full power its prob around 13 amps. Maybe look at the mic gain as well.
Upgrades- 2.00/2.50/4.00khz dev Dtmf decoding pager alert Dtmf ANI ID on ptt Built in Parrot repeater relay Fans on rear for extra cooling Remote head and cable for easier installation in car. *update-Roger beep position beep on key up beep after key down (standard) beep key up&key down can be used to trigger vox controlled cb gateways Menu goes on ,stays on till exit menu or ptt.-fix
I ve left mine standard and it works well. The NR i leave on No2. Only thing i adjust whilst using the radio is the RF gain. I normally back it off a 1/4 turn to reduce noise.
Indeed, very annoying. I was happy that Igor is not active anymore on 555 and now there is this crazy guy. He is quite strong at my QTH (south of Italy) and I thought he was from Spain. Do you know more or less where about his QTH is?
@@hugovdz Yes his QTH is Torrevieja, Alicante. There is actually a video on RU-vid of the exact location, where a guy knocks on his door to confront him.
thanks for the video fred yeah i might add those 2 president fans or maybe 1 cuz im long winded but no biggie the nrc 1 or 2 max great radio. this is gona be the radio to get for the next few years i think. and the 4kc wide ssb is great for hifi ssb that sounds like am great rig for the price.
10 4 on making this a bad ass base radio !!!! maybe a limited run full features for the freeband lovers not full hf but close 20m to 6m would be a good seller !
