It's also those origins in the savage side of England, the brutality, the violence toward anyone different or weak. Both the Smiths and Radiohead were the sound of something that could resist all that...
When Tom York say's This song is about us when we were younger, but we didn't write it. It tells who great this song is, its so good that its croos the time barrier
Thom is fully invested, I would have believed it was an original song if they didn't cite The Smiths at the beginning. Love The Smiths but don't know many of their songs!
Having Radiohead cover this Smiths Gem is like winning the lottery on Monday, then again on Tuesday. Smiths are my all time favorite and Radiohead is in the top 5. So, wow. It doesn't seem to be fair how ridiculously talented Radiohead is.
Radiohead has a lot of Smiths influence across the board, even in their later albums. Honestly, this cover is what really got me into Radiohead, and allowed me to discover masterpieces like How To Disappear Completely
Ed smiling really big while nailing this song from one of his favorite bands is exactly the kind of childlike joy I feel when I learn one of Radiohead’s songs on guitar ❤️ music and nostalgia are so powerful
@@metalheadedtothemax Probably implying that manipulative men tend to listen to the smiths and radiohead but I don't really see it, they've become way more popular over the years and I feel like more women listen to them than men at least 20 something year olds
Damn this is one of my favs from the Smiths....and I love Radiohead...didn't know this existed...I think they covered ceremony by joy division in the same session
[Verse 1] Belligerent ghouls run Manchester schools Spineless swines, cemented minds [Pre-Chorus] Sir leads the troops, jealous of youth Same old suit since 1962 He does the military two-step Down the nape of my neck [Chorus] I want to go home I don't want to stay Give up education As a bad mistake [Verse 2] Mid-week on the playing fields Sir thwacks you on the knees Knees you in the groin, elbow in the face Bruises bigger than dinner plates [Chorus] I want to go home I don't want to stay [Post-Chorus] La-la-la-la-la-la-la-ee-yay Oh, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-ee-yay Oh, la-la-la-la-la-la, oh, la-la-la-la (Oh, oh! So intense, please more. I love and adore them both but at least Morrissey could never cover/sing "Everything in its right place" and I really wish he would.
Maybe a confession? I definitely picked up on it too and he literally says at the start "Its about our youth (sic) but we didn't write it." Love to Thom if true. Love to Thom anyway. We all love you mate xx
Thom York is a legend, Radiohead can make more covers but I’d love to hear more covers of Radiohead songs. One I like was Cigarette’s After Sex- Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A)
