This song distills what it's like to feel like an outsider, someone who doesn't fit or feels different from those around him/her. It's much more than just longing for a potential romantic partner to notice them. It's really about the universal feeling of loneliness. "What the hell am I doing here!?"
Thom Yorke was in love with a girl but could never pluck up the courage to talk to her, he actually once got himself drunk so that he could get the confidence to talk to her, it worked but ended up scaring her off. He also once was told that she went to one of Radiohead's concerts and had a huge panic attack as soon as he found out. It's a song I think I hold pretty close to my heart, when you love someone so much but you feel like they and everyone else just see you as the creepy socially anxious guy underneath everyone else. A very beautiful and powerful song.
Scaring her off is right. Here are the lyrics: But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doin' here? I don't belong here She's running out the door She's running out She's run, run, run, run
I'd never heard about her going to the concert. I suppose there's a bit of a Romeo/Juliet thing there, isn't there? First he's too shy to talk to her because he doesn't feel like he's special enough, then she's frightened of the fame/spotlight effect when she learns the song is about her, probably feeling like SHE isn't special enough... and the circle is complete. (Scene ends with her running out the door of the concert hall as he sings "running out the door"!) Wow... that's an amazing thought.
@@Tall-Cool-Drink I wasn't really into music like that before I heard this song, but it totally turned my music taste around to this day. Not just the style of the music, but also the lyrics was not something I really listened to before, but this song resonated with me and so many others of my generation.
Father's goal. I wish i had a daughter. I'm turning 30, and no signs of family. I wish i had a daughter/son with who i could share music that touched my soul.
It ain't over til it's over, dude. Your patience may be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams someday. Don't give up or settle! I'll get off my mom soapbox now :)
Dude you're only 30, you have at least 30 more years to have kids in. Don't sweat it, finding the right person to have said children with is the most important. Just go out there and look! No fear, No regrets! Worst that can happen is rejection, its not killing anyone.
Aw..fn men that can make babies all their lives!!! Find a single mom and just adopt ..or second father a random kid,,Dad's make life better if they are good dads
I’m a 53 year old mom, my daughter is 14 and we love running down the beach singing this at the top of our lungs! We live on the Oregon coast and have a long length of beach with nobody in sight. Anyway, it makes us feel ‘special’.
Hulk Slayer oh yes lol cuz Thom Yorke is the kindest and friendliest touchy feely man on the planet 😂😂😂😬 I guess It’s nice in a way to think of him as someone who is super sweet but the truth about his saltiness is part of why I love him.
My daughter, who is now 30, is a massive Radiohead fan because she heard me listening to them when she was a child. Good to see that you are giving your daughter the chance to hear them too x
Damn, it feels so weird seeing someone not reacting like their head about to explode listening to this song. The first time I heard this song I was in my teenage angst years and I'm pretty sure I was crying while hearing it. Damn good song...
Introducing your kids to “your” music is one of the greatest things you can do. Hearing your 8yr old listening to Nirvana or The Beatles having chosen to is a great feeling. Almost as good as your 5 yr old quoting Monty Python or Faulty Towers 😂
I dont get what you mean, she reacted like a regular teenager sat next to a parent. We all would've redacted the same to our parents music. She has her own likes for her time
As others have stated, the band hated this song, it was an early song for them, but for whatever reason the record company latched onto it. During the recording, the guitarist's slamming of that cord was actually meant as a protest, but ironically it helped popularize it and make us take notice of them.
Does he want /get more clicks from saying 13 year old daughter. Seems like he should provide live lyrics. Doubt she would have a congruent opinion without his preface on most songs
why was it alright.... she was been polite and would probably never listen dads childhood tunes again. Everyone reacts according to age and experience..I do not expect my younger colleagues of 20 years to understand.
I thought I recognized the name of the group and song. Heard it a hundred times on the radio. Good song. He about held that note forever @4:56! Sheeshh!
I read, and Idk if it is true, that he wrote this song from a personal experience. I totally relate to it myself because of my physical appearance. And I may be wrong but I felt that high solo when he sings “she’s running”, as a scream of distress. It is a sweet yet sad song. Thom’s lyrics and melodies are very deep of you ask me. Have you done Street Spirit? That songs really makes me cry. New subscriber.
there was a cool unplugged version done by Korn in the late 90's too. its my favorite version. this song gets covered by a lot of bands, and even I learned it. more out of feeling a relateable condition, but i played it and sang it with someone particular in mind. everyone in the house knew immediately who i was singing to, but not her. still, i got a lot of praise and its still one of the most stripped moments of my life. when you sing or express feelings for someone in a packed room, you lose all of the armor you were used to. the smallest pinch hurts deeply
I remember the first time I heard this. It wasn't long after it's release. I think I was 22. It's a song I've continued to enjoy ever since. I've probably listened to it over a thousand times, and it still doesn't get old. Lots of other RH songs that I live as well; but this one is definitely a stand out.
I came to your channel for Nightwish and stayed for Radiohead. I've listened to this song s million times. This is the first time for this version and wow. I thank you for this. Its Incredible!
Good video, however, you completely affected the reaction by discussing your thoughts about the song/video before the person was exposed to it. You cannot go around saying "the reaction" if you explained what YOU thought the lyrics were about before you filmed the video.
What annoyed me more is she was clearly soaking in the song and the emotion an then out of nowhere he pauses it an starts talking, completely taking her out of the moment. You literally see her eyes roll every time he speaks. I wanted to punch him in the face. He's going to make her start resenting this kind of music if he condescendingly nags at her like this. Just let her enjoy the song in her own way, jesus.
She doesn't really react, or is given time to. It's basically just dad talking. Whatever interesting facts he read up on is never even talked about. Cool that dad is teaching his kids his favorite music as a youth, but...
First heard this in passing on an “Alternative “ radio station in the early 90s. Then Conan got a late night show on one of 3 channels available. Hearing them do this live on Conan made me a fan of both for life
Almost every cover of this song is wonderful. Most covers suck but this song is the mirror image, everyone can put their own spin on it without damaging the original
Small note, that smacking, loud mute Johnny's doing was actually apparently improvised, he essentially did that in the studio just to screw up the other guys because he disliked how quiet the take sounded (apparently it was one take), they just went with it and it kind of makes the song
Yes, that's it. The quiet and the loud, the perfect and the desperate, that's what conveys all the emotion the song is trying to put out. I have listened to a lot of covers of this song and most fail because the artists don't get this.
Watching that 13 year old girls face as she experienced the song was like a flashback to how it made me feel at that age hearing it. I was around her age when it came out and I heard it first
Oh yeah,i started out not liking Radiohead too much. Then this female friend of mine was like "Youre kidding me?!" She told me about theyr song creep, and asked me to pay attention to the lyrics. True story! And after i heard it,they really grew on me. Even till this day,i can find myself in that situation, where you feel like everything is going to *BEEP*,and you start having your inner demons take over your thought process. Im a positive minded guy by nature,so it never lasts. But thats probably the song by them, that most people can relate to. Society can be quite cruel, judge you too harshly without reasons. And you start believing it..... or you keep getting rejected by the ones you get feelings for,and you start looking upon yourself as a "creep, who wished he/she was special". Another wonderful reaction by you 2!😍💞
I had 2 tickets to see Radiohead at the Bridlington spa Yorkshire UK Sept 1997. But sold them to some students, due to starting a new job on nights on the same night as the concert. I was absolutely gutted because the job was horrendous and didn't go back after that one night . Luckily I have seen them many times since. and watching these great vids brings all the great memories back. Bring back the 90s. Thank you
Having seen these guys perform live, it's their natural habitat. They just kill! There are a few full concert videos on here you may want to check out.
I'm pretty sure they don't give a single fuck about your comment and it's just a Dad bonding with his daughter. They're not doing this for you. Get over yourself.
Good choice to introduce good music to your daughter. This song is mean a lot to me and this is one of my lifetime favorite song. i listened to this for the first time when i was a teenager untill now for more than 15yrs i'm still listening and sometime sing this song with my guitar when i got my free time.
It has been forever since you have reacted to The Warning. This video popped up in my recommended because Pau (the drummer for The Warning) recorded an absolutely beautiful piano cover of Creep by Radiohead last week. It would be awesome if you could react to it!
Fantastic that right there at that moment synapses in her brain were connecting to fuze together this song.. coz there is only ever before hearing Creep and after hearing Creep. Special moment captured.
Did you notice she was moving her head (just a little bit) while she was listening the song? Finally!!!! Stay with the low ones with her!!! She's a Tough Cookie!!! LOL Nice Reaction!!!!
Nobody: Thom Yorke: But im a creep, Im a weird door what the hell am i doing beer ah dont belong here, she riding on the door, shes riding on run run run ren ren.
I would suggest using the album versions first as a "reaction" video.. while i understand that for people who grew up with those songs, the live versions can have an added value, i think it's important to not forget that for the first-time-listener (i.e. your daughter) none of your emotions and memories to the song exist.. emotions and memories that were added over years by listening (most likely primarily) to the album version .. ..and it's better to hear some distinct parts, like here the muted guitar "hits" before the chorus sets in.. they just don't come over properly in this live version, which in my opinion still play a crucial role in the mood this song is setting
You should have Annie react to "I promise" by Radiohead next, it's a beautiful song and Tom actually enjoys performing it, unlike Creep, which the entire band hates performing.
If there was ever a song from my youth that still touches me as if it was the first time hearing it, it is Creep....Amazing powerful song and I have done the same with both my kids.....
@@bodspafc defo. When the guitar kicks in when its performed live it verges on being biblical. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--XlCFJA3yL4.html is a good one to watch but to be honest its always good.
1996, We were at home watching this festival on TV (live or same day) and this performance was the first performance of Radiohead we had ever seen, we bought the CD (physical copy) only days later. :-) It's an epic performance in the rain.
@@GlitchintheMatrixMultiMedia It definitely put their CD high in the charts that year in the Netherlands. :-) But never reached something like the first position though, clearly at the end of the day Radiohead might not be for everyone.
This was Pinkpop 1996 in the Netherlands. I was there as a 16 year old, front row. I have been a fan of Radiohead eversince. What an amazing performance.
