In this video, I'll be going over some radiographic image critique for a few odontoid (dens) views.

The longer we practice radiography, the more efficient we should be at being able to glance at a radiograph for just a few moments, evaluate positioning criteria, and make a decision regarding whether the image is acceptable for submission, if it should be repeated, and if the latter is true, how to correct for any positioning errors on the initial view. Today's video will consist of me walking through a few odontoid views at first glance to determine how to correct them if/when needed.

Just stumbled across your site. EXCELLENT evaluation of odontoid positioning, that matches my preferred learning style... EXCEPT, please refrain from the shame, shame, shame BS when demonstrating poor position. I have a DI manager that only knows how to manage through negative reinforcement. This is considered an abusive management style and does absolutely NOTHING for creating positive learning.

I understand what you're saying... good food for thought. As a manager myself who has been required to provide corrective action to my staff, this is not the approach I've ever taken. The instructor part of me would never speak to a student like this either. I was extremely disappointed to see this kind of collimation from a veteran technologist who should know better, but you're right... I could have presented that in a different way.

@@TopicsInRadiography As a very SEASONED tech, I would have expressed my dismay the same way. If the person had taken a digital photograph, there would not be consequences for the patient. But that patient received radiation in unnecessary areas and the tech should feel bad. Sorry, but that is the reality.

Hello David just wanted to discuss the critique on the lateral skull. I believe those the orbital plates as opposed to the petrous ridges which are found in the temporal bone

Every technologist repeats... what's important is to minimize the number of repeats by knowing what to look for to determine how to correct. We all start somewhere.
