Good job on makin the jump buddy. As time goes on you will find so many possibilities with this radio. You will grow into it.

Thanks so much....just from my brief experience I do feel like I have a lot of possibilities at my finger tips. Already started the journey with purchasing some new receivers and some ideas for things I want to do.

Nicely done review brother. I even learned about these more then others reviews. If I were still deep in the hobby I would probably get one. With the multiprotocol in that system the answer to what receivers to use is simply.... "Use what ya got" or what came with the models. that's the whole of the point for it! 😉 IF you have to buy new go with the best known quality you can afford. brand boundaries are now moot. I do have to disagreed with the perpetuation of the OpenX based radios is too complicated for new or first time users. They all have ability to set up a new model with the basic settings by answering simple questions within default scripts. Its actually easier then old school having to set each individual channels. About the old gimbals vs hall effect... Old school was basically two analog volume controls..... on a Stihhck (bonus points for getting that reference) and hall effect are magnetic sensors with no physical contacts to wear or get dirty that translate into a higher resolution digital signal giving far more precise control. Think of 640x480 vs 2k monitor resolution as a comparison.

Thanks....not very often I do big videos like this. Thanks on the multiprotocol thing....Since the video, I have discovered a drone I have that may work with the radio as well. =) I sold most all of my FrSky receivers. But looking around I see I have plenty of options to go with. I've already been looking around a little. Back to FrSky...then Hitec, and some others. I would probably say it is easier than the old days. Computer based radios are sooooooo much better than the old FM/AM radios. As for the beginner side of things....coming from Spektrum, it is a definitely more of a challenge b/c of the difference in layout as well as the considerable amount of options that are at your disposal. Plus you get used to a certain one for so long, it can be an adjustment. But yes, the wizards are a big help! I suppose it can depend on the generation of youngsters too....some would struggle with this radio. My 5 year old is already impressing me with her use with technology so she might surpass some of these other kids. Gotcha on the hall gimbals! I'm having a brainfart on the reference lol, feel like I should know it though.

@@perkyplanesrc9363 Pretty much anything built should bind to that TX. Some protocols you may have to limit end points to make them work fully and properly but nearly unlimited choices. As for the Reference you need more Jeff Fa Faa Dunham DUNHAM!!! in your life. Look up Jose Jalapeno and it should be instant The whole "too complicated" thing comes when there are several places within the controls you can do the same things. So when you first pick up a new radio just like anything else your only concern is that first 4 channels but people tend to dive too deep trying to learn or understand things that at that moment are not necessary. Its like working on cars.. you dont do a full engine rebuild your first day.. You change the oil, change the spark plugs, check the trans fluid.. Or being a doctor.. you dont do a full on brain transplant your first day. You learn anatomy, you learn physiology... The confusion can only be blamed on ones self. You KNOW the radio can do anything and everything the day you bought it. No sense trying to DO anything and everything on your first model...

I've already picked up a couple receivers to start out with and have some ideas for some future things I wanna do with this radio. Ohhhh Jeff Dunham, I am kinda familiar with him. I thought it was a movie quote reference you were referring to. I have seen a few of the Jose Jalapeno skits, just been a while. I always liked Walter and the Achmed skits. He's coming to the area sometime soon actually on his new tour. I totally get what you are saying as far as the complicated thing. I know one thing that discovered in terms of complexity with the OTX radios is channel order. On Spektrum's it was pre-defined. On OTX, you can manually set it which in a way is good b/c it gives you the flexibility to change it. First time messing with it (back with the Taranis), the radio was set up with a different channel order for how I plugged up the receiver (it was a 2nd hand radio). So that took a little bit to fix that. And then discovering how to set up dual/triple rates was a little different b/c I found YT videos that showed different approaches to it. Really for a basic model set up....throttle cut, dual rates and expo are the basic things I need to get started. Anything else is just specific to the model and model type. Overall though, I feel I am more confident about it now then I was in the beginning. Still have those bonehead moments and have to look up something lol. It's like comparing Android to iPhone. In the beginning, I sorta got sucked into the iPhone/Spektrum world and was stuck there....then had to crawl my way out to experience the Android/OTX world. Which honestly that is genuinely what happened to me with phones...started with an iPhone and then quickly went to Android. It just took me longer to switch with RC transmitters. I really do wish I would've done OTX in the beginning....and I started back in 2015 (man didn't realize it was that long ago!)

Well, if you are familiar with OpenTX radios (FrSky, etc) then it won't be too much of a transition. Not sure what radio you use. Thanks, hope all is well your way!

@@perkyplanesrc9363 I got my Restart in the hobby with Dx6e, so open TX is like Greek to me!! lol

It definitely is a different world, but you can do the same things in OpenTX as you can in Spektrum...and then some! Just gotta get used to the layouts. If you want to give it a try, I'd pick up FlySkyI6S transmitter (about $50), a FlySky receiver, and a cheap Flitetest model to play around with. That Taranis X9D I had is a good transmitter as well, just cost a little more.
