Yeah no joke, great lights but a company that only slaps a one year warranty on a $1000 light makes me nervous. Just means they will pump out another variant within the year and go full Apple products
Great video, I've been assembling homemade led lights for years out of necessity , I acquired some very nice multidiode COB chips back in 2016, they are still running 100% 24/7 365, Gold wiring on the chip, Copper Chip Base. LED's are EPILED from Taiwan, chip base is made by Bridgelux out of Freemont. Chips were assembled in Shenzhen by VANQ. The narrowest bandwidth is 395nm UVA spectrum, it has outworked all supposed turn-key aquarium lighting by at least 5x, Ultraviolet penetrates much deeper than conventional lighting, I'm sure UVB spectrums would prove even better but risk to eye's is not worth it to me. UVA does an amazing job by itself. These G6 Radion's have the prerequisites for advanced lighting with those UV diodes. If I was looking for solid modern turn-key solution I would take these over a kessil even though I like the kessil's COB array better. With these Radion's it seems you would have the option to desolder and resolder burnt out diodes which is a plus. When a COB diode goes you lose a whole row in series.
could you tell us about how you built it or at least the design because I'm interested in DIY lights because the lighting in my country is way more expensive than all the other equipment

The g6 blue gives me much more of a pleasing blue, reminds me of that kessil blue. My complaint with the g5 was it always seemed windexy, overall. But it grew the crap out of coral. But, im already much happier with the overall look during the day with the g6 blue. The upgrade was super easy to do. And im glad Jake made this, so i could decide wether to stay blue, or go pro. Glad i stayed blue. Much much happier with the g6. And gained like a foot of spread, which is awesome.
Hi , sounds nice . I have mostly LPS and 2 Radion G5 Pro over a 4ft tank. I just use the LPS / softie template and I like the light but the corals doesn’t really “pop” . Looks a bit washed out sometimes … What u think - is it worth it to upgrade my g5 pro to g6 blues? Thanks Sebastian

Very nice 👍 great work Jake and to anyone else helping out with the upkeep in the studio 🍻🍻 I’m not sure now if the 6 upgrade would be worth it due to the fact that a month or two ago I had some custom led bars added to my Red Sea xl system the main light source is the g5 blue. Day time hours I run full spectrum and that’s for the majority of the day but I also run the led bars all day and during the final couple hours of all blue spectrum. The bars consist of 410nm / 430nm / 450nm diodes with a pretty wide angle lens cap over each diode. I didn’t go full blown uv diodes due to some past experiences I’ve had where I probably added a little too much full uv a lighting. This setup now is working great and coloring up the acros and montis more and more every day! I’ll have to think about this purchase for a bit. Thank you for the update tho Jake much appreciated now I have some more knowledge to work with in terms of upgrading! Cheers my friend 🍻🙏

I've greatly appreciated your coverage and in-depth look at these. I've personally been hemming and hawing over my own decision to upgrade (as I'm sure many others have as well). Ultimately, this is like comparing a 2020 Ferrari to a 2022 Ferrari. They're both fast. We're debating nuance and minutiae, because this is our hobby and it excites us. And you're providing one of the best side-by-side comparison's available, while giving a responsible and thoughtful assessment. Yes, I've watched all three. I was leaning towards upgrading. But I think for me, seeing the G5 go on clearance prices was the deciding factor. I want the improved spread and the increased actinic range of the G6. But, knowing the G5 is tried and true, and seeing it discounted in price (based on today's prices) is what personally won in the end for me. I love that new lens, but adding more G5 XR15's to my existing ones is what I went with. (a value proposition that is short lived. I assume it is "while supplies last") From what I've seen on these lights, from this channel and others. The G6 is a great light. If someone gets one, I doubt they'll be disappointed. However, the G5 (and even the G4) is still a very strong and reliable offering. I'm not disappointed with the G5's, and that's not a bad thing. Too many are trying to argue that EcoTech released the G6 too soon, or that more features should have been iterated upon first. And to an extent I agree, these really don't seem like a new "generation"; that seems like marketing hype. But, the G6 are an improvement to be sure. And I personally like the G5's body style, I'm happy they kept it. However, the fact the G4 & G5 are still such strong options is a testament to EcoTech's design of there product line. The fact the G4 and G5 weren't immediately obsolete, is what gives confidence in buying their entire line. You know that even if a new "generation" is released, the older versions are still going strong and consumers can trust their performance long-term. That's a good look and a confidence boost for EcoTech in the end.
Read the forum it isn't really an improvement ,they launch it too quick to stop to lose market share to competitor, the only good thing are the Uv but not enough and the technologies with their plastic lens is not made for it, they will burn out after 2-3 years.They should have wait a few month more and launch a real upgrade. But probably the g7 will be here when the people realize and be out of guaranty..Yes better stay with the g5 or add some kessils or red sea or ghl
@@tomg5405 We've been over this already Tom, and you never did answer me in the last video on what light you're comparing these against? You come off as just have a vendetta against the manufacture. Second, the "forum" is not a grand source of information. It's a loose collection of hobbyist, no more or less informed than here. And it's even less credible when you don't cite the exact forum thread you're referencing. Show the data if you want to make a credible argument, or at least cite your source.... Also, I do personally run Kessil's (I'm pairing XR15's with A360X's). I don't have a brand loyalty. But I do very much like the G5 and G6. While Redsea and GHL also appear to be solid lights, as do AI, Neptune, and a slew of others. Those are all irrelevant to this discussion. This is a head-to-head from the same manufacturer.

@@tomg5405 No, my point was that very few, if any, Hobby level forums collect or provide the data required to "prove' anything. They are a fascinating source of inspiration and general knowledge. But, their "proof" most often stops at anecdote and conjecture. RU-vid, Forums, and social media in general shop in opinion, not fact. Don't confuse the two. And at least that explains you're motivation. Sorry you got burned by false claims, I can understand that. I personally am not interested in UV, and didn't pay attention to it. It can make the coral morphology look more pleasing to the human eye, depending on your taste. But, the understanding of how it effects the coral is still mottled and far from fully understood. There is no good actual evidence showing that going lower than about 400nm, actually does anything productive for corals, other than screw with there color. They do look cool under that actinic though.
@Reef Builders/Jake, can you do a video on your studio maintenance or if you have staff, introduce them and walk us through how you maintain all those tanks/stock tanks? You've done it with WWC, so curious on your own studio. Just a thought!
Doing a tank reset using Aquatic Life T5 hybrid over a 36” long x 24” wide x 16” deep mixed reef with softies, LPS and a few SPS. Can’t decide on XR15 G6 Pro or Blue even after watching all 3 videos.
Yah I watched all 3 videos and I still don't know for sure if to or not to upgrade the led's and lenses of my G5 to G6 blue.... I guess I need to see them in person on some one's tank. But great video and explanation like always. Thank you🙏
watch all 3 however I just went back to kessil with A500x , dont keep sps though so for me I prefer the look overall of the kessil more . It was fun trying out the G5 for a year and did get faster growth coming off the AP700 , will be interesting to see what changes after swapping again . Love these vids can we get a Xmas tree worm update please ? Jealous of you keeping them long term something I have yet to accomplish .
Most of my led lights cost $190 each “and I’m still experimenting “ but so far they grow coral BETTER and more COLORFUL than any other lights I’ve tried. I got 7 reef tanks

I agree. I got one for my frag tank, and ive been super happy with it. (I also had a g5, now a g6 blue with the upgrade) and tbh, for the money the nicrew is an awesome light. My frags do great under it, coming from the display under the radion.

I watched the first video comparing the XR 30 blue and pro but you only cover the pro. I couldn’t find the second one and I found a third one the third one does give a little clip from the second one, but is there a way to search your site to find what I’m looking for. I need new lights I’m gonna get the Radion XR 30 but I don’t see a way to compare the blue and the pro side-by-side yet. Do you have anything like that?
I thought I ordered the pro but I think I have to tell them I wanted the pro and the blue are marked on my order.I like the brighter light and it seems no one is showing the blue at it’s brightest in every review soo it never looks bright to me?why give less white????why not give less yellow or green?am I missing something?your pro review from g5 vs g6 was side to side but the blue review isn’t as good cause I don’t see the brightest version or is it only bright blue?
I watched all 3 videos as i am trying to work out what would be the best upgrade to my stock tank light which is a aquaone minireef 120 60 x 45 x 45cm any advice would be amazing… I prefer Lps corals.. My tank has been running for a year now.. 👍
I’m tempted to do this as well. I have three XR15 G5 pros over my Reefer 350. I was tempted to upgrade one or two to G6 Blue so I have at least one pro. Not sure how it would look though.
Test should have been done in the same tank, or it is not relevant,also you should have put the coral under the g4 to see . But for sure the uv plays an important role , I got much better color with the red sea led than the g5 and the red sea has uv. With the radion i also got much better color when i put the green and white to 100% instead of the ab+.
Great video! unrelated to the video QUESTION for Jake: is Aptasia a true and real threat to my corals (GSP, ricordea and Favia) or is it more just a nuisance? Can it/will it kill my corals?
If the aiptasia gets really large the tentacles could be a real irritation to your corals. But many of our systems have aiptasia and we just get to it when we get to it. It’s not an emergency. But ultimately eliminating aiptasia should be the goal.
Jake Great videos. I have one XR30 between 2 XR15 blues (all Gen 5) on my 38 gallon 36" x 11" tank which is mixed, but Acro dominant. If you were me, would you switch them all to Gen 6 blues? Or do a partial switch: Convert the XR30 or the 2 XR 15's. Thanks David
That's up to you but I am confident you will obtain better coloration from your Acros. Don't forget that there's an upgrade path for G5s that is less than half the cost of new fixtures.

I’m new to reefing so I have questions. I have a 100 gallon 4’ tank, 24” wide and 20” deep. With that said I’m looking at the new G-6 lights, but I don’t know what ones to get. The XR 30s or XR 15s. And what determines weather I want the Pro or the Blue? I am planning for it to be a mixed reef tank. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I finally saw them and the spread is amazing. With a 4ft X 2ft foot print you’d be be fine with 2 XR 15 blues. It’s my understanding that the blues take full advantage of AB+
two years is a LONG time to update a consumer electronic device, but Ecotech will tell you that the changes they made were based on user feedback, it's what the people wanted
Reefdude did this side by side comparison so we can see the color difference between them but I thought you could put you own twist on it see a whole new “light” on the subject
Had the xr15 blue about a week now, great light, but I honestly feel like it needs mounting lower than advised otherwise you throw away so much par with the spread being so big. I've got mine 6" above the waterline to get the par I need around the tank. Even on the BRS side by side with the G5 you can see how much lower the par is when mounted at the same height, even if the spread is much flatter (which I think BRS are giving too much importance, even t5s have a hot spot). Mount them lower people, I dare you!
The Lagoon Tank at WWC had 10 G5 XR 30s mounted in the ceiling at least 6 feet off the surface when I saw it. Probably my favorite tank in the world. Seriously powerful lights. Most people have them dialed down to 30-40%.
I’ve seen that tank in person it’s beautiful! Do you need all that so called power though? I rather get 4x units at 1/4 the power and size spread out for coverage running at 100% than a reduced amount. If I pay for lights I want to run them all the way, Instead of buying a Ferrari topping out at 55mph.
1 year warranty should be everything exchanged.to 2nd year just the Fan and power supply.to 3rd year leds. That would be a better warranty and more people would buy.
@@joshuavild6999 in science lab everything has to be equal on an experimental. Tank A has to be 100% equal to tank B. And that means All. Eye for an eye? Or do you mean eye for a balls?
