Raf Simons spring/summer 2000 “Summa Cum Laude” was another tribute to youth culture, this time blending 1980’s yuppie fashion with the styles of the gabber movement that came out of Rotterdam in the early 90’s. References to classic American TV shows and 80’s horror movies are seen alongside repurposed surplus bomber jackets throughout the 66 looks on the runway. An important and under appreciated work, with many of the design motifs and silhouettes from this collection being referenced by not only Raf in his future works, but by many other designers over the last two decades following it’s debut.
