Tornadoes, Jaguars, Buccaneers, Victors, Tristars, Sea Kings, Chinooks, Hercules....We don't have half of that now thanks to defence cuts and age of equipment!
@redmar79 The tornado is one of the fastest low level fighters around, bucaneer is the fastest if im not mistaken or was. The reason it got shot was because it was flying so low in AAA fire. The americans didnt get shot because they all flew around 30000 feet. The tornados also had the task of taking out airfields with the JP233 weapon which means low and fast flying
@pborotrevor In 1991 the Bucc was still in service with 12 and 208 Squadrons at RAF Lossiemouth. They were retired two years later, so this was her swansong. ;-)
@redmar79 The Tornado is far from being a "Slow flying Turd" as you so eloquently put it! These guys were flying some of the most dangerous missions of the entire war, and attacking well defended airfields will always bring casualites no matter what you're flying. The RAF were well trained for this role in Germany, and that's why they flew the anti-airfield missions. Only one Tornado was lost in the 2003 bash, and was because some gung ho idiot shot them down with a Patriot and murdered them!
Tonka, beat F-111 in NATO exercises in 83, Buccaneer sunk a US carrier in NATO exercises in 78... back when the UK could actually have a proper airforce
We made this video in the RIC at Dhahran and as you correctly said the Tonka had a job both here and in Germany to clear a path for the Americans to come in and have clear path to attack the enemy
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them" "Ode of Remembrance"
Agreed, but it’s basically a copy of a home video that was doing the rounds at the time. I have a vhs copy somewhere of even worse quality, it seemed quite hi tech in the day! Brings back memories of the unbelievable heat even on a cold winter day....
Me and my collegues made this with the technology we had available at the time, sadly our trade sponsors werent interested in video so we had to use what basically was available at Dixons. Theres another part to this video which isnt on this particular video showing various targets been destroyed
Hi David, how would I contact regarding use of your footage in a television documentary I'm working on? I can't see an email listed for you. speak soon, best Jane
@DiegoMenendez Hard to say, although not how I'd have done it, but within this context, I'd take that to mean *engine start* Honestly could just as easily mean hurry up, it was a war after all :P
