dont worry we will take care of them, also we are replacing an old boeing 707 witch made his first flight on 1965 so this is a really good upgrade

@@wisepanzer7265 No they aren't 707s, but 717s, narrower and shorter fuselage, 1st flew in 1957.

There in the backgrounds, two fleets of aircraft retired and sold with no logical reason. Both the Chileans and US Army thank us for our idiotic defence cuts.

Didn't know the Royal Airforce had ex US EC-135s or AWACS ...interesting !!
@robertrich663
@robertrich663 2 года назад
The three EC135, Rivet Joint replaced the Nimrod R1, of which 3 were built, one being written off following an engine failure. A spare airframe was then brought up to R1 standard. The RAF Rivet Joints have been brought back to zero life and have new engines.

None of them are, or were, ex-USAF. The E-3 AWACS were bought new off Boeing's production line. The RAF's RC-135W Rivet Joints are new conversions of USAF KC-135R tanker airframes.
@paulkirkland3263
@paulkirkland3263 2 года назад
@andy smedley No idea, but the USAF RC-135s from Rivet Brass onwards were also converted from progressive KC-135 variants. The KC-135R itself is a re-engined version of the A, and some E models
@paulkirkland3263
@paulkirkland3263 2 года назад
@andy smedley I was responding to the earlier post that hinted that the RAF's AWACs and Rivet Joint aircraft were ex-US : the implication being that they were bought second hand from the USAF. They are all either new builds ( AWACS ), or new conversions from KC-135s ( Rivet Joints), as are American-operated Rivet Joints. None of the RAF's Rivet Joints had flown as Rivet Joints previously in USAF service - they were new conversions from KC-135Rs...same as the USAF's ones.

And a tory government scrapped Nimrod !
@timhancock6626
@timhancock6626 2 года назад
The Tories scrapped two Nimrod variants. The AEW version because it didn't work, and the MRA4 as it was unproven and spectacularly over budget. They were probably right. Historically the Tories have scrapped more aircraft projects, five in 1957 alone. Labour scrapped the TSR2, again spectacularly over budget and tried to cancel Concorde, but couldn't because of the French Treaty. The Conservatives tried to cancel the English Electric Lightning, but were convinced it was already in production so they let that one go.
