That's why the head 2 head is meaningless. Nadal is such a bad player on fast courts that he never made it to the finals in these tournaments and actually got to play against Federer. Meanwhile Federer is excellent even on his worst surface and repeatedly reaches finals in clay tournaments to play against Nadal. I think it's funny that Federer being good enough to reach finals on clay while Nadal not being good enough to do the same on indoor hard court is somehow supposed to be bad for Federer. Think about it like this. If Nadal was even worse on indoor hard court, and never actualy got to play Federer on his best surface, his win rate would be 22 - 7. He would literally get a better win rate against Federer by being a worse overall player, that's how irrelevant head to head stats are in tennis.

This is a significant statistic, Federer is easily the #2 clay court player of history.
