Borg no doubt retired too soon. He was my Dad's favourite player, who knows how many more Roland Garros crowns or slams he could've won. But credit when it's due, Nadal IMO isn't done yet & may eventually surpass Federer in the all-time list.

You put good arguments to the stand. I am a Federer fan myself, but i like the spirit, energy and power of Rafa as well. I do not totally agree with you on the surface thing. Clay is hard to play on, no doubt about that. But what makes a player greater than the rest is the speed of his eye and wrist. To do that on grass and hardcourt is as difficult as playing with patience and mental strenght on clay. Federer is a natural. I truly believe there has never been a more talented tennis player than him. But only talent does not do the trick. It is mostly his speed in recognizing the situation and his fluent game where power doesn't have the upper hand. I like Nadal, i really do. The GOAT on clay. He will win his eleventh FO this year and most probably nr. 12 in 2019 and nr. 13 in 2020. But the total numbers, his age and his natural gift all tell me Roger has the edge.

Nico Kolen .. well i like federer too.. i really accept the fact that he has the most beautiful game.. however you can't say Rafa is great on clay only.. like wise i dont say roger is great on fast court only.. tennis is tennis... you play anywhere..but playing on clay is difficult only coz you cannot serve aces and win points easily... Nadal has won 16 GS many ATP titles by serving only 3000+ aces.. Thats incredible achievement.. he is not even in top 70 in aces served.. Well roger is number 2 serving 10000+ aces.. Hence my Argument for Nadal being GOAT stands firm for me....

+Nico If you play tennis, you should know that clay is the hardest slam to win. Rallies are longer thus you need more stamina and mental fortitude. Grass, have a good serve and you are already at an advantage. That's the reason why being big in clay is not an advantage. Speed of eye and wrist are all applicable in all surface...

@ Ali Mohamad: Let me first reply by saying that us fans are blessed to witness the two greatest players that ever picked up a tennis racket. And i respect your preference for Rafa as being the GOAT. I don't want to force my opinion of Roger being the GOAT down your throat, like many other people like to do. But, his huge success and dominance on clay surface isn't enough for me to call Rafa the greatest. One can say that Federer would never have won a FO in his career, if Nadal would have beaten Soderling in 2009. I seriously doubt that, because Federer is an excellent clay player. Nadal said so himself. And many people talk about the injury history of Nadal which costed him a number of Slams. That may be so, but being injured is a part of the game. It is all about how you play the game. The fact that Federer has had few injuries in his career (only his back if i can recall correctly) means that he has a style of play that is based on technique, souplesse and a natural gift. Nevertheless Ali: I am looking forward to the final this Sunday. I am very sure Nadal will win his 11th. And actually i hope so, because i am not a big fan of Thiem. And again: i respect your opinion. Rafa is an absolute joy to watch!

@ ecf08: I do play tennis once in a while. And more on clay than on any other surface. I know it is a difficult surface to play on. But when i talk about speed of eye and wrist i don't mean the average player. Because all players in the Top 100 have the necessary speed. I am talking about Fed's speed, which is of an absurd high level. I must admit it: it took him a while. But on grass and hard court that was the key to his success the last couple of years. Take the ball faster than any other player can. At 36 he has control over the young generation ánd over Rafa (not on clay). To reinvent himself at his age and to do that with a living legend as Rafa is, you have to be from out of space! And that is also quite some achievement.

RG requires a different style of play. A lot of people who grow up on hardcourts and grass and such learn that style of play very well. Then they learn clay and it's a bit different and not ever completely natural. SO they might win it once or twice to complete the slam. Nadal has doen it the other way around

@@MsJubjubbird In clay, the serves are neutralize and due to slow bounce, power players advantage are somehow slightly diminish too. Meaning, you have to work for every point in clay. That's the reason its the hardest slam !

It would be very stupid of him to play RG at his age when he can skip the clay part and compete for the other slams. Rafa should do the same with wimbledon. For some years now he goes there and loses in the earlier rounds. Im a fan of RF, but i respect nadal as much as him. There is no other player like rafa on clay, not even near.

Its all about numbers my friend. Im a fan of roger and I agree that rafa always had the recipe, strategy and everything to outplay roger, may be between them, rafa is better. But including everything else.. roger is ahead.

TenisTamb roger has more because he's older and had the chance to win more grand slams and took an advantage. If Nadals had federer's age, we would see the difference of slams, maybe they'd be equals.

u are wrong.. yes, roger is older. But he started winning big things like his first gs at the age of 21, almost 22 in 2003 (wimbledon). Rafa started winning Roland garros at the age of 19. Rafa with 17 or 18 years old was better than roger at same age. So, both started their rivalry in 2004 and being really big at the same time. May be roger has one year of advantage. 2003-2004. To this time, they both had the same opportunities and yet roger with his age (36) in this moment when its clearly not the same as being 32 (rafa) .. he is at the same level as nadal is. I dont think rafa is going to win the same amount of majors that roger won when he gets over 35. I hope rafa keeps himself healthy and thinks a little bit more about his body as roger does. He is no longer 20-25.

TenisTamb Rafa has still got it on grass and he showed it this year. Roger skipping the clay season is unethical, why not skip the hard court season or year end championship, that's because he knows he won't overcome Nadal on clay. On the other hand your suggestion for Rafa to skip grass court season is ridiculous, he's not like Federer and he showed he's still got it on grass. If they both ever play on grass again it's going to be neck to neck with no clear winner. And Rafa will come back next year and put a fight for Wimbledon.

I was late to the party. I became a fan of his at 07 Wimbledon. He was the only player that was not scared of Federer.

I saw him at the Australian Open in 2005 where he took Lleyton Hewitt to 5 sets. Hewitt was a terrible sport who used to really disrespect his opponents and argue with the umpire and he was playing in front of his home crowd but Nadal wasn't scared. I thought this guy is would be great on clay and would be in the last few at the French Open, probably win it the next year. Then I saw him at Monte Carlo and decided he would win it that year.

How happy it must made you that someone you have been following for almost 15 years have come so far in his career . I just love Rafa he couldn't be described by words
