To think the man was in crutches only a few months ago, and here he is defeating the 25 year old world number 2, coming back from 2 sets down. What a champion.

Yes, today I decided to watch this match bcoz i never quite saw it in its entirety. But still i feel anxious and get upset with Rafa shouting at the screen even though I already know the outcome, lol!!! After Rafa lost that second set I asked myself how on earth did Rafa pull this off?!! This match....this match is so complex on so many levels. It is hard to make a resume, but this is the one match where there are more than a couple things that stand out. From Rafa's tactical genius to change the whole game plan, to his ability to hang in there in the toughest moments (and there is nothing tougher than being 2 sets down and 3 break points down), to his will to guide his mind into fighting his body (an almost 36 year old to physically outlast a 26 year old), all these aspects make Rafa's performance even more special, and they serve as a testimony of sporting greatness, similar to other GOAT's in other sports. It is a match to always remember, and a Hall of Fame moment. i feel blessed to have witnessed history!

I'll be honest when I saw him 2 sets down and 2 - 3 & 0-40 I lost hope of him winning, Nadal just flipped the switch and started ripping them vintage groundstrokes,especially the forehand (Nadal has the most destructive and powerful forehand) I couldn't believe it. But what an amazing match, what an outstanding opponent in Medvedev, and what an amazing era of tennis and of sports to be living in! As a kid, I remember sitting on the couch cheering on Rafa while my dad cheered on Federer during that iconic Wimbledon final...and wanting Nadal to win at all costs. As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned to appreciate and be impressed by ALL of the greats - be inspired by their perseverance, their class, their love for their game - and I’ve learned to appreciate how in tennis, one’s greatest opponents creates even greater champions. 21 majors? Are you kidding me? With the heat he had to deal with throughout the tournament and his recent surgery at nearly 36 years of age? And he had to deal with Covid too? This guy is insane. Anyone who wants to take anything away from this achievement because Novak didn't take part can kiss my asterisk.

Rafa earned every bit of his 21th Major. Last I heard Medvedev beat Novak on a hard court at their last major. No asterisk needed.
@kenalier
@kenalier 2 года назад
Nadal just beat the best player of the new generation, the player who is the hottest player on the tour right now (especially on hard courts), and who ran right through Djokovic in the most recent Slam before this one. Nadal did this being well past his prime, with his best tennis behind him, age 35 being 10 years older than his opponent and coming off COVID and his surgery thinking he was headed for retirement. Down 0-2 and triple break point in the 3rd. He earned every bit of this.

I'm a big fan of Rafa, and I'm thrilled that he won this grand slam. But I don't think he's the best player ever. I don't think his style or game in general is that elegant, and he runs around his backhand way too much for my taste. His complete dominance of Federer ... the fact that Roger has won 20 Slams in more than eighty tries while Rafa's gotten 21 out of 63, fully one-third of every Slam he's ever entered ... the fact that he plays tennis with his off-hand, and with a congenital foot disorder ... there can be no question that an objective observer rates Rafa over Roger.
