Simply loved Federer's confessions after the match: "He makes you feel uncomfortable the way he defends the court and plays on clay. There is nobody who even plays remotely close to him," said Federer, who hadn't entered the tournament since 2015. "I don't even know who I need to go search for, to go practice with somebody who plays like him. I was thinking that during the match."

@@jeremylofipo9758 Lol Federer has been completely raped by Nadal in this match, and you have the audacity to talk about "Nadal's first win in the last 2 years" like that shit means anything here? Federer would have never defeated Nadal in a million years, he tried in his prime when Nadal was a fucking kid, he tried when both were at their best and he tried when both are old and the result is the same: he got destroyed, none of their matches at the French even exceeded 4 sets, Nadal was always in firm control, and sometimes he delivered astronomical beat-downs like the 2008 French Final. Federer should thank the heavens he ever got that meaningless French Open crown in 2009 courtesy of Robin Soderling.

@@gherbihicham8506 Nadal hasn't beaten Federer or Djokovic outside of clay in a few years now... Tanked the match in Indian Wells this year to protect his h2h against Roger. Very romantic match, and a beautiful and historical one. They played to remeber us the gone times. Rafa won, and with immense merits. Roger played excellent tennis, is game was offensive, full of risks and beautiful shots, constantly on the edge of the error, he tried everything he could, in the only possible way. His efforts ten years ago would be considered frustrating, insufficient, now they are beautiful and romantic. Thanks for this, Roger, for coming to this Roland Garros and flying to the semifinals almost like you are not a 37 and half years old man that still loves playing tennis. Federer risked, risked so much, playing against this Nadal on his favourite tournament. But he accepted the challenge and gave us another epic and beautiful matchup. Rafa, what can we say? You're the best clay court player ever and today you proved it again, like you did in the last 14 years. Good luck for the final. And thank you, too.

@@rbreze2380 it was romantic in the sense that there was a Federer - Nadal match at Roland Garros, and while I don't think that this wil be the last Fedal, after the last years it seemed impossible that a bo5 on clay would happen again betwenn them, especially in a SEMIFINAL in Paris. No one thinked that Federer could have played at RG again, or that he could arrive almost flawlessly to the semifinals. So, in this sense, this remembered to me and other people the classic matches here between them. I didn't think before the match that Federer would win this. He needed some kind of miracle that in 99% of the cases wouldn't going to happen. Nadal is too strong here, again in his top form. Too much for everyone, at RG. He was the clear favourite and he won. The oly reason this time the match looked different to some people was because the recent victories Federer had on Nadal in the last years.

Very rare to see great comments like these. You see things deeper than the material aspects. I'm happy to see this post and I agree. To me, it's a pleasure to see these two legends of the game play each other again, regardless of result and style. When they play each other, it is like a dance to salute the crowd and to give back for supporting them and that is very special in itself. And this may be their last dance so I don't take this for granted.

As a tennis watcher of 30 years, wind or not, Rafa was unplayable today. Unlike in past French Opens against Rafa, Roger was not tentative...he put it all out there, tried everything, was super aggressive and still came up short. If Thiem goes through, he'll get cremated against Rafa. Only a peak Djokovic (playing without wind) stands any chance, to stop the rampage of the Mallorcan bull.

I don't understand people blaming the wind for roger's loss; as if rafa was playing elsewhere. Whereas whenever nadal lost in madrid over the years and he mentions(not blames) that the windy conditions played a part, everybody lashes at him saying oh there it is again kneedull with the excuses or any other stupid response but now all of a sudden it's the other way around. The guy is a monster of a tennis player and the GOAT on clay without a shadow of a doubt ( better than borg in my opinion and yes i've actually seen borg play) so plug your brain in and show some respect.

Federer honestly played a very good match, but what was opposite that net was just something out of this world. Absolutely insane. That was just something special. On any other surfaces most of those shots from Roger would have been winners, the backhand was actually doing very well. But this is Chatrier at the French Open, and at Chatrier, the laws of physics bow to Rafael Nadal. That being said, if Roger keeps this up he has a very good chance at Wimbledon this year. Before this match I said that nothing was impossible. I take that back. Some things are impossible, and the most impossible of them all is beating this Nadal at the French Open.

Nadal seems the king of wind as well. I have really found stupid dreamers commenting that this might be a close match ignoring so many facts. No need to elaborate on that but let me say this. If it wasn't for the wind, Nadal would have demolished Federer with a worse score, bageled at least a set. If you said the wind was for both of the players, you are deadly wrong. Nadal couldn't perform his best in the presence of wind and it was still 3 setter. Fed on the other hand used the wind nicely with many drop shots. We have yet to see Nadal's peak and if there was no wind we will see it on Sunday. If there was wind, he showed he could adapt his serve and game well enough. There are reasons why Nadal has 11 RG trophies and he is in the final again. That should tell something to dreamers ignoring reality based facts. Lastly respect to Federer!! on so many grounds..

We are already missing these matches. We only have one classic these days: Djokovich - Nadal. "Not too baaaad" as The G.O.A.T. would say, but we had three classics: Djokovich - Nadal Federer - Nadal Federer - Djokovich so it is felt like a HUGE loss. I guess we should just enjoy what we have and be patient with Medvedev, Rublev, Zverev, Aliassime, Alcaraz... This tournament should be called Rafael Nadal. After all, he has more Grand Slams than all the French players combined.

Here we go again. People are debating who is the Goat bla bla bla. Who cares. I am sure the players don't. They don't need any validation. Their track records speaks for themselves. Nadal is another level on clay. Wast majority of his GS trophies is from RG. Roger is the all time leader is Wimbly and Djokovic if I not mistaken has the most Aussie titles. We as spectators are luck that they all play in our lifetime and we have the privilege to enjoy to watch them play. So if one of them will have more GS than the other two, would it make the others less talented player? I am sure the answer is No!

"vast majority of his GS trophies is from RG" which is incredible in my opinion, while there are two grand slams on HC where Federer and Djokovic accumulated the same number of slams, Nadal did it on a single tournament, just imagine how many grand slams Nadal would have had if clay had two grand slams instead of Hard Courts.

Could Roger have been all-time leader in Wimbledon if he started in the current era with Nadal and Djokovic? I think not. Novak and Rafa have proven that they are capable of beating Roger at Wimbledon, and that is his best surface. In fact he lost 4-5 finals in Wimbledon itself to both of them. On the other hand he has been completely incapable of beating Rafa in Roland Garros for so many attempts. If this asymmetry exists, I don't understand how people claim that Rafa is not a complete player, or that Roger is the King of Grass, because they are both very wrong.

Not really a shock nor is the scoreline but still an amazing performance from Rafa. That second set Roger would have took it from anybody else. Plenty of rest now for the final no matter who he takes on....

Nadal is now 10-3 in slams vs Federer in slams. 🥰 Federer fans will talk about clay but Rafa beat Federer on grass in his 3rd try at Wimbledon, and has beaten him 3 times at the AO too. He also has at least 2 slams on each surface. He is simply a God.

Nigel Burgin the more iconic hardcourt slam is by far the USO... either way he’s won 4 hardcourt slams total, keeping an average of at least 2 per surface.
