In some ways, this match exemplified who Rafa is, and what he stands for. He could’ve retired after the first set, the pain was immense, that was clear to see, yet, he continued. He adapted his game so he could maximise his body’s condition, and found an effective strategy. It’s why he is my favourite player, and an inspiration for millions. Onwards to 2023, whatever happens.

Excellent summation, Olly! Rafa's a textbook example of the never-say-die attitude in any sport. It is the reason crowds love him and love rooting for him, as is the obvious case in this video. 🤩🤩

Not only that, the few times he does lose he blames on an injury, something he ensures everyone is aware of prior to the match, tape, scowling, grimacing, wincing, etc., just incase. He wins most of the time, good on him, all-time great, greatest ever on clay, but he’s got it in his bag if he needs it.

If nadal was healthy and had that forehand and touch, I think he could've taken Djokovic that year in the final. Of course, probably wouldn't play like that if he was healthy and Djokovic would be much tougher than Fritz. But when nadal hits the ball like that, it's truly something special, add his health or enough for him to move and serve the way he wants, and that's a truly formidable player

He couldn't beat Djokovic in 2018 when Djokovic was just returning to form. Novak had a weaker serve and weaker backhand at that time. He got rolled in 2011. I think we all know what was going to happen.
@islanublar1739
@islanublar1739 Год назад
@Kakashi Hatake I wasn't considering those prior years, only how both were playing going into this tournament. 2011 was the beginning of the nightmare, no one was stopping Djokovic that year. 2018, was part of the epic trilogy they played and I thought both played exceptionally well. Neither were at that level anymore in my opinion, and considering Nadal took out Djokovic a month prior at RG and was yet to lose a GS match in 2022, I thought he was playing with great confidence and that might have been enough to beat Djokovic. I still would've favored Djokovic, but I thought it would be a great match had it happened and anything could happen

Watched this match and i'll tell this is one of the biggest if not the biggest feat of Rafa's career beating Fritz who beat him previously that year while having no serve and no backhand was badass.Serbian commentator which i watched told in 4th set we are slowly getting to the end of the match and as a Rafa fan i was like shut the f up hoping Rafa can pull off a miracle amd Rafa at 20% successfuly made it to 5th set and destroyed Fritz in 5th set tie break and after finding out he won't play vs Kyrgios in semis i was sad but so proud cause he previously did something unbelievable and turns out it was even worse than it looked like.I wanted to watch 2022 Wimbledon final Nole vs Rafa which i thaught would he best match of all time regardless of tje winner.I wanna watch 2023 Wimbledon and US Open katch beetween them if Rafa returns healthy.And no i don't wanna watch Roland Garros match beetween them, everyone will tell like he can't beat Nole anywhere else and if he loses it's even worse, if they play at Ronald Garros it's lose-lose situation for us Rafa fans😅

Probably Rafa's final ever Wimbledon match. Withdrew from Wimbledon 2023 and said 2024 would likely be his last season. Very tough to believe he will play Wimbledon in 2024 even if his body allows which it may not. Even if he is healthy, after playing FO whether or not he wins, he will want to be prepared for the Olympics which will be held at the FO venue on clay so switching to grass then back to clay for a 38 year old body would not seem like a wise choice. He will definitely want to try and play the Olympics with it being at the venue he's had more success at than any other.

If only Rafa had loosened his forehand more times to flaten the shots like he did in this match when everything was lost with an injure, he does it in trainings , but very few times he has done it in his career, just RG 17 final and strangely enough in the third set of 2014 Ausi Open final also injured, he just do it when he has nothing to lose or he is slaughtering his oponent and when he does it, it´s the most lethal weapon I´ve ever seen in tennis why on earth he hasn´t done it more often??? it´s like keeping a cannon in the closet and not using it at war, I think it´s because of his nerves anyhow Spanish folks we are fortunate to have now Alcaraz with him we can see how Rafa´s forehand would look without a leash around...
