Yay! So hard to find mazurka 50 no. 1-3 all together and played in such a classic Polish style, with the force and restraint necessary to convey the true feeling of the pieces. I’m only on the no. 1 so far, but I can tell this pianist knows what he’s doing. Very enjoyable. I wish there was more of a marcato/maestoso to his pace/interpretation, but it is still absolutely lovely. Nvm. Just got to no. 2 on the listen. Omg so lovely. He was setting it up. See- this is why a full play through of 50 no. 1-3 is needed. I’m excited to see what he does in the most popular no. 3. Thank you whomever shared this for us to watch the world over. One of my favorite of Chopin’s mazurkas.
This is good playing, but if you want to hear *transcendent* mazurkas, listen to Evgeni Bozhanov. Try one of his greatest performances: the Rondo a la Mazurka.
Maybe 2nd best perf. here of all the ones I've heard other than Rubinstein of the number 3.So many race, place too loudly too often, lose the delicacy or playfulness of certain parts, don't come with repose to the end of a phrase. Rubinstein, the master. Rafal... pretty good ;)
R.U. Otaku It's very interesting, that someone with Otaku nick name is such an expert in a very polish mazurka. Wow! Too many race? Really? Too loud? Really? Have you ever heard real, original mazurka? Have you ever dance real mazurka? What do you know about mazurka at all? I spent 20 years dancing mazurkas, singing to mazurkas and I can assure you, that it's not too loud, not too fast, not too raced.
