Dhrupad is one of the oldest forms of Indian classical music extant today and Pt. Uday Bhawalkar is its foremost exponent. A doyen of the Dagar Gharana, Pt. Bhawalkar's powerful vocal range , disciplined and imaginative control , sense of drama and fine rhythmic subtlety have earned him a very special place in the classical music circuit.
In the maiden Bengal Classical Music Festival, held in Dhaka 2012, Pt. Uday Bhawalkar performed Raag Jog with a long alaap , much to the delight of the audiences.

I am convinced that Uday Bhawalkar is the most developed Dhrupad singer ever; he has it all: depth, tone, sweetness, soul and not to mention technique which he never flaunts but is always in service of expressing something more beautiful and unseen.

শিল্পীর ব্যাপারে বলার জন্য আমার কোনো যোগ্যতাই নেই। তিনি অনেক বড় শিল্পী। তবে বেঙ্গল অসাধার কাজ করছে। শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীতের শ্রোতা এবং শিল্পী তৈরি করছে। এটা আমাদের দেশে মঙ্গলজন কাজের মধ্যে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ গুলোর মধ্যে একটি। যা আমাদের সংস্কৃতি সবার কাছে পৌছাবার একটি বড় দিক। এবং বেঙ্গলের প্রোগ্রামের video গুলো অনেকের কাজে আসবে। এবং এতে আরো অনেক গুণ শ্রোতা বাড়বে। এবং এই প্রোগ্রাম গুলোতে যাদের যাওয়ার ইচ্ছা ছিলো কিন্তু কোনো না কোনো কারণে যেতে পারে নি তাদের জন্য এটা অনেক বড় উপহার।
