I am 57 years old hearing this for the first time and I am totally amazed how great the message, the music and the feeling of connection with one and other.
+Michael Garfat There are bands that just play music, and that's great, then there are bands that will deliver a message come hell or high handed governments. Rage Against The Machine is up there with 5 Finger Death Punch and System of a Down in my book.
People say that Kurt Cobain was the voice of Gen X, with all their angst, hopelessness, and rage, but I think Zack de la Rocha captured that energy a lot more.
Yeah, well, it was the time of the Oil Wars and manufactured consent in the papers, demonstrations getting beat up by police... a wild time. This song resonated with a LOT of people. And I still play it.
I've grown up, gotten married, had a kid, and have a career.. But I still listen to this song in the car with the volume at max screaming all the lyrics like I did in high school. Some songs never leave you and this was one of them.
It's becoming more of a "machine", than it ever was. In days gone by they needed a willing organisation of people to spy on and/or control their fellow humans. In the future, trans-humanism (electronic implants) and artificial intelligence will control us automatically without the need for an army of lackeys. Programable crypto-currency will mean that our masters will control what we can and cannot buy easily and remotely without needing to give orders to anyone. Stop pay waving and insist on using cash.
I was too young to understand the real meaning of their songs when they were released. As I've gotten older their message has become abundantly clear. I find myself with the same frustrations as them.
Relevant huh, I guess if your are a progressive and trying to blame conservatives for trying to control you. The left wants to take all our freedoms away and control everything we say or do. I don't like the way Trump talks to people but he gets the gov out of my pocket. Lol sry for the rant
Lol. Not even close. One thing is I didn't get to this song from the rioting. I'm not a far right person but I'm so far from being a Dem. To me Zach sounds like he is blaming corporate America and capitalism for holding people down. And the conservatives for burning cross. To me it's the Dems that are trying to take our freedom and burning cross. As far as the riots I think burning your own city is not going to get people to lesson to you. George needs justice for his murder though.
Joel I didn't either I got to it when I was 5 and now 10 years later and I still like it so I compare it to the riots and anybody that doesn't like trump is a democratic snowflake
What a talented band! They showed up with Rage and Excellent messages in their songs and exited with Power! Just watch the crowd and how they love this band!
The sad thing is now they seem to side with the power. Make no mistake the liberal party has been taken over by the left and it's the Democrats who are in power. Not that the right is much better. I guess that is to be expected when you graduate with a master's in liberal arts in a university .
@@johnknope1664 just stop. The only person whose had any power in the past 10 years was Mitch McConnell. Both parties are firmly pro-neoliberalism. Rage was against the ENTIRE machine.
1993 - my goodness, has it really been that long... Still as relevant as ever. Still killing in the name of... Rage, Rage against the Machine. And the Dying of the Light
This crowd is just stunning! No one with a phone in their hands. Just getting a 100% into the music! Great performance! Still rocks, and the words are still relevant... blessings from Stockholm Sweden ❤
I got to see them at 3 concerts during that time. First i 1993, second in 1994 and third time in 1996. I feel the energy from this video. Loved it. Today I am senior Banker in one of the worlds largest banks. I sold out, sadly
for real , I saw them live in 93...18 years old that time and just graduated high school. I'm 49 years old now and I'm still listening to this song and punching in the air in all directions....Best concert ever and everyone was filling the vibe. My buddy Adam got floated halfway across the venue and we lost him until after the show...He was so happy. So fittings these times! I don't need a f'#$$ therapist to get rid of my anger issues...I just set this on repeat and go nuts after my kids go nite nite.
I love that they're all so casually dressed, Zack just in a striped shirt & pair of jeans.. they didn't have to overdo it in appearance, they did it all in performance
What if we only believe the rich are the enemy because the deciders decided they were? Because rich people have enough power to oppose the deciders and therefore we must mass in forces against them to weaken them and make them live in manipulation like us?
My grandmother was part of the civil rights movement in the 60’s Back in 93 i let her listen to this song and she absolutely loved it! Rip Bella Louise!
Please play outside one of Trump's kid concentration camps RATM - like at the DNC conference years ago - we need you........... (and I'm a grandfather....)
p.s. I remember a family BBq once, and I played this, kid's most impressed, most adults, not.. haha... I played Bodycount instead.... haha That sorted them out.... haha :-)
Does not matter if you are 9 like me son 40ties like me or 98 years old .. this is 'REAL' Music a master piece for ME ............. Some of those that work forces Are the same that burn crosses .............
Nobody taking pictures nobody streaming just a generation truly living in the moment today’s generation will never experience that We were the golden generation growing up and partying in the 90s
Man..I saw these cats Lollapalooza 94 or 95. You could feel the ground vibrate underneath your feet from the crowd jumping up and down. Never have I experienced that at concert. RATM all day.
What he means is the tempo stays the same, but the rhythm changes. It’s such a great tension builder in headbanger music. You can see the crowd get stirred up by the effect.
For real, remember how they were getting back together for a couple shows? They were suppose to headline Coachella. With everything happening in the world, it would be insane to see this song they’d probably start a riot hahaha
xxxtentacion scarlxrd tons of underground metal and hip hop out there m8. the three top selling songs of 1992 were end of the road by boys 2 men, baby got back and jump by cross cross😂
Only mistake in the performance is the backup singer should have just let the crowd sing: "now you do what they told you" and he could reply "and now you're under control". My only gripe. :)
There is alot of evidence that the f u attitude, hyper-individualism, and each for himself attitude is actually part of extreme capitalism and the system that is literally killing the planet and people. Social movements that have succeeded to change things for people had strong communities, strong sense of responsibility to others, sacrifice for eachother, empathy and trust. A f-u attitude does nothing if we don't care for each other, the planet, and work together.
@@mel3256 I made a mistake including" don't give a fuck attitude" because that can be interpreted in so many ways. What I meant was that if you are unhappy with your job life relationship, whatever, just pick one action that you feel that will improve your situation. See how I didn't include "government".Good luck with influencing politicians or even you become one, good luck changing the world as a politician. Even you becoming "rich" whatever that means, you can't do shit. In order to help your communities, you need some funds and that is where capitalism comes to play. I agree about strong communities and working as a community.
One minute you're crocheting baby blankets for NICU preemies and the next this song comes on & you're thrashing around your living room ready to start the next revolution.
A song and a singer and a band whom have good convictions, i understand what they're singing about with quintessential good amount of rage T Leckner, Montreal
Lmao, we did that, like 1 1/2 months ago(3 hours straight). The basist, drummer and the main vocal were sweating their balls coz they didn't have any substitute (the drummer and bassist sang for like 1-3 songs, I sang too coz I'm a vocal too, but I didn't really do much compared to them). And the last song was killing in the name.
Josh Caviness last year, RATM arose from the ashes with Chuck D of Public Enemy and B-Real of Cypress Hill as "Prophets of Rage" touring America with the "Make America Rage Again" tour
All these years later and nothing in the world has changed for the better yet... This needs to chart again world wide as we end 2023 to inspire action in 2024
Lol. Not too bright huh. Human nature is to control. That's why having a constitution is important. Nothing's going to change. Everything will just cycle until we are all dead. Some people on the planet are as close to free somwere and others are not. It will simply cycle. There is no place with rainbows and unicorns.
they were pioneers, they saw most things before it happened. As because we heard it while in Gen X, now you seeing how fucked up the World is, and that people have/are now seeing past and beyond the capitalist/democracy (yeah right) Bullshit.
I can't imagine the high that performers get performing in front of a crowd this huge and everyone is totally into your performance. Probably better than any drug
4 sure WAY BETTER THAN ANY DRUGS The pure adrenaline alone the hairs on your skin. FUCK be mind-blowing & if you're able to stay sane & not become a different person. life can really be precious but remember we must take what we put out into the universe.
