the album cover is a famous photo of a monk self-immolating in protest, a pretty fitting image in relation to the image & its message also!! you should really listen to Caligula by Lingua Ignota. a heavy listen, but i really think she deserves more credit, it’s my favorite album ever
I've thought about reccomending Lingua Ignota before... but wasn't sure if it'd be too heavy for a reaction. But yes I agree, Caligula is incredible. If you ever decided to do it though Smags... be prepared to be emotionally eviscerated. Like actually.
this album being so popular and mainstream is honestly a perfect example of how americans can totally vibe with socialist ideas as long as you never actually say the word socialism. Everyone kinda instrinsically understands how fucked up capitalism is, but most people just dont know how to describe the contradictions or where to point the fingers to, and red scare insures that a lot of that confusion keeps propogating itself.
@@spvilles7556 I agree to an extent, however - an enormous part of what makes their music so great is the writing. and the writing is completely anti-capitalist.
Hell yes Rec for you: The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land already put some recommendations on the csh vid but here they are again for easy access why not: Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me (amazing ahead of its time 1987 alt/noise rock) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
oh and yes, the cover is a monk self immolating. "The monk was protesting President Ngô Đình Diệm's administration for oppressing the Buddhist religion." - wikipedia
@@CrazyPartyCreepI know it’s 2 months but that’s partially correct. The US was backing the Diem regime during the Cold War, thus fueling tensions between North and South. The immolation and its associated picture sparked debate over the ethics of US involvement, but the act in itself is more of an indirect reaction to the war
Everything about this album is just as true and relevant today as it was in the 90’s. Theres still so much injustice, and the internet should in theory make it easier for everyone to follow Rage’s message here. Inform yourselves and speak up
Man the bass playing on this album goes so hard. Haven’t watched you in a minute smags, good to see you still making videos. You gotta check out the sound of perseverance by death. It’s a masterclass in metal music for sure, excellent musicianship and songwriting.
This shit goes really hard, especially considering the state of racial tensions in America when it was released. If you want to hear more hardcore shit from the 90s, check out "Welcome To Sky Valley" by Kyuss. The singer and guitarist from Queens of the Stone Age played guitar in Kyuss before forming QOTSA
Loving all the reactions recently! I would love if you did more Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin 3 is when they really start taking off into the stratosphere of creativity and never look back.
just recently found your channel and been going through some of them, very awesome to see you do this. this is my favorite metal album and one of my faves in general. truly pure rage and fire anti-capitalist anti-imperialist bars. ages better every day
Wake Up is of course for the first Matrix movie, where they were literally raging against the machines and the Here, Neo was ASLEEP for his entire existence.
Recommendations: Slipknot self titled From under the cork tree by fall out boy American idiot by green day Meteora and hybrid theory by linkin park Any album by muse Screamager by therapy To lose my life by white lies
No that's a real photo of a monk burning himself alive. He's not having a good time no. There's a video on youtube of him doing it. He just falls over dead like a fiery plank.
Sweet trip cd 🙏🔥 I remember being hyped seeing you upload that reaction Some albums I’m confident you’ll like: The Arcs - Yours, Dreamily, Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom Todd Rundgren - Something Anything? And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead - Source Tags and Codes
You should react to bang! (with the exclamation point) self titled album, it’s lesser known, but it great! It’s early hard rock, some even say early heavy metal
Here's a few albums I think you'll really like :) wetdream - WillyRodriguezWasTaken Weatherglow - Asian Glow, Weatherday Two Airships / Exploder Falls - Candy Claws Before The Dawn Heals Us - M83 Thanks for the great videos!
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
Reaction request for The Joshua Tree by U2. I don’t think you have reacted to U2 yet, their 80’s/90’s material is some of the best Rock music of the era.
Would be insane to see you react to “Red Burns” by Standing on the Corner. An absurdly chaotic, sound collage/neo-soul record that tackles themes similar to this RATM record.
Yo smags you gotta check out this math rock band, Hella. It’s a band with the drummer for death grips, Zach Hill, and guitarist Spencer Seim. A good album to off with would be Hold Your Horse Is. I’d love to see more math rock reactions, I think this would be a good start.
Evil empire and battle of LA are insanely good as well, i think the self title is their best but their entire discography is goated, there isn't a single rage song that doesn't slap. And if you're even a little interested in analysing the lyrics with a few wikipedia tabs open you're in for a journey there's so much to learn from them
i remember one of your polls mentioning reviewing Windswept Adan by Ichiko Aoba.........is that still on the docket? IMO its one of the most gorgeous albums ever made and I'd love to see you experience it for the first time
yup, the people been waiting on this pick. reccomending Deep Fantasy by SURFING again if you wanna check it out, super cool and funky album with fantastic layered production. you been playing a lot of heavy stuff recently, maybe it'd be a nice break lol
Video 3 of asking for a reaction of Today I Laid Down Comment I put on the last video: Also, Today I Laid Down- Bl4ck M4rket C4rt is an album I highly recommend you check out The artist was an incredibly talented 17 y/o who was taken from us way too soon through suicide. The album would be right up your alley with the shoegaze and slacker rock influences that Kai took into consideration while producing the album. Rest in piece Kai Wesener
Great choice of album, but the timing of your video cuts was super frustrating to listen to. I get that it has to be edited for copyright, but making cuts right on or before beat drops or on the hook is kinda sacrilegious.
ONCE AGAIN BEGGING FOR NURTURE AND WORLDS BY PORTER ROBINSON his new album drops in July so it would be sick if you did at least one of those before it drops
Whoever told you they don't stand for what they said, is parroting the suits. The group had some infighting which led to Zach's departure in 2000. The rest of the band plus chris cornell formed audioslave, and Zach went through a series of collaborations with other artists. Both Tom and Zach have been avid activists for marginalized groups the entire time, right up to today. Check out Tom Morrello's acceptance speech at the rock and roll hall of fame, or Zach's interview in Japan......or just look up info on either of their activities. They were/are the real deal, and even if they weren't, it doesn't diminish their message. Fighting systemic racism, wealth inequality, and police brutality is NOT counteracted by being pro-vax. Anyone who claims otherwise is just as much a part of the machine. "Welcome to the mind cemetery"
If you’re into the guitar playing, Tom Morello and the whole RATM rhythm section make a group called Audioslave with Chris Cornell (singer of Soundgarden). Their self-titled album is really great and worth checking out!
Oh yes let’s go, one of the greatest metal albums of all time! Please do Iowa by Slipknot, another one of my personal favorites, probably the heaviest craziest album I’ve ever heard.
