@@mattsell2361 I think the point of that scene specifically is that he's looking for some sort of redemption or bright side he lost but he was still standing, kinda like life was beating him up and he still kept standing but he was the one who was beating himself up
@@OliverOils I always considered it to be pointless. Like yeah your bragging ray never knocked you down but what’s the point of that, what does that have to do with the other aspects of his life. He was insecure and tried to act tough constantly and were did that get him in the end.
@@mattsell2361 to me it seems that the ring was his therapy session it's not uncommon for fighters to treat fighting as their therapy since everything else in their life, they don't want to confront when he lost, he said "I did a lot of bad things, maybe it's coming back to me" he's aware enough about it but he's not doing anything about it except for training and fighting fighting became his way of expressing himself
“I remember those cheers, They still ring in my ears, And for years they remain in my thoughts. ‘Cause one night I took off my robe, And what’d I do? I forgot to wear shorts. I recall every fall, every hook, every jab, The worst way a guy can get rid of his flab, As you know, my life wasn’t drab. Though I’d rather hear you cheer When I delve into Shakespeare … ‘A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!’ I haven’t had a winner in six months. And though I’m no Olivier, If he fought Sugar Ray, he would say That the thing ain’t the ring, it’s the play. So give me a stage Where this bull here can rage, And though I can fight, I’d much rather recite. That’s entertainment.”
I need to watch it! I feel like many fighters have to pick between fighting smart and risk being boring, or fighting like they have your family hostage and risk taking way too much damage. Legacy, fans, longevity. Short and sweet career, or long and steady? So hard to pick.
No you don’t, it was filled with more drugs, violence, and anger than today. Plus you wouldn’t be making this comment without technology so think again. 😂
Rocky will always be the best boxing movie ever as it had inspiration and taught lessons But I might give this movie a try because these days boxing movies are getting more popular by the minute
Comments are missing the point. He's not supposed to be seen as cool, he's supposed to be seen as a fucking animal with no concern for anyone's health- not his, not Rays, not his families (who are surely freaked the fuck out after seeing their father/husband get beaten half to death). There's a reason why ray is framed in light, while Jake is cast in smoke and shadows. He's not the hero.
