Very nice presentation. Switzerland looks like a micro Empire like the EU but smaller, that is true. But that is what makes Switzerland a success, being decentralized, so each canton works as a small nation. I would say that cantons are homogeneous, and its federal nature with strong accent on decentralization, it's because of its confederation past, sort of like a mini Holly Roman Empire. Part of the population is protestant, that is a problem, and protestant cantons were more in favor of centralization than Catholic ones.
