It is funny to me how yoimiya is the opposite of Ei where yoimiya already had the answer moments of fire works stay a short period of time but create memories that stay for eternity while Ei tried to hold everything to stay in one phase never changing similar to a moment in time that stays for eternity
Yes!!! I noticed that too. Yoimiya and Makoto have very similar views about time, memories and eternity. It's something that not a lot of people talk about but something I found really profound about her character
The line”finally free from the clutches of the heavenly principals” is somerhing i still haven’t stopped thinking abt and it’s driving me mad. And also that khanriah was supposedly “a place no archon could affort to ignore”. Just smth to think abt (Also i know i misspelled stuff)
@@BitSharkGames hope to see a… follow up? From you. I guess when we get more info abt the battle 500 years ago from 2.6. Or Khanriah in general. Love your content 😇
The gist I got from that: There are numerous possibilities for how the future could turn out, but we can use our free-will to choose what future we want.
When you talk about Arrival's approach maintaining free will, my first thought was that free will was only actually maintained for Lousie herself because of her atemporality, and even then it's questionable since her choice was predestined anyways. What _really_ complicates free will is something that isn't even from any story, but real life neuroscience. Brain scans have been able to pick up signs that someone has made a decision before the person themself is consciously aware of it. This suggests that while the conscious mind believes it made the decision by free will, the unconscious mind had already locked in the decision. My personal favourite story with an atemporal character has said character be fully aware of and accepting of her status, since she's already experienced all of time to get used to it. In addition, when this character interacts with the physical world, which is difficult precisely because she can't fully manifest at any one point in spacetime, the other characters are fully aware that their own agency and free will is being deprived because the god who influenced the action in question already knew from the moment of interaction how it would ripple out, and so regardless of their own personal reaction, that reaction will have already been accounted for. It makes for a rather unusual story since protagonist agency is usually such an important aspect of writing, but not only does this protagonist have less agency than most, she's also fully aware of it and frustrated by it. It's not hard then to make the metatextual jump to question what character agency even is since the author already knows everything that will happen in the story, so no fictional character will ever have true free will.
I really enjoyed exploring the topic of free will and atemporality from Arrival. The study you bring up is pretty interesting and makes the discussion on the topic even more interesting. Also what is the story you described from? I'd love to check it out. I love when stories take a different approach to storytelling. I get tired of tropes and the idea that a protagonist has less agency than in most stories is really interesting.
It's super funny to watch some players argue about Genshin's aesthetics and story pacing when there are creators such as yourself that actually break down the lore of the story in a way that encourages discussion. I've been suffering for useful, healthy discourse- your insight is MASSIVELY appreciated. 😊
ahhh thank you so much!!!! I recently came across some of the ideas from Boethius and Bergson and it instantly made me think of Ei and led to the making of this video! It's gives the story a whole new meaning and perspective
Wonderful video as always! This quest was such a lore bomb and I can't wait for more! Our sibling seems to also have a better understanding of eternity and time "we have always had enough time"
Omggg you're totally right about that! I forgot about that quote haha I'm really interested in seeing how things unfold with time and eternity. Also, thank you!!!! :D
I am so glad you mentioned the movie _Arrival._ Not many talk about that movie but as a linguist it was very insightful and very well profound movie. _Semi-Worf Hypothesis_ which was touched in the movie describes that in which language you speak it shapes your perception of the world and time. Each language can either exalirate you're time perception or slow it down and vise verse. It's quite an interesting subject and not so well explored but it is linked to ifinty a.k.a eternity. It's a question of interpretation and how certain things like culture, language can shape your world view. Amazing! Thank you for mentioned _Arrival_ again. I'm so happy.
No problem! I'm a huge fan of Arrival so it was a ton of fun making this video. It's such an underrated movie and I really wish it got more attention Like you said, if you really dive into the movie and it's connections to linguistics and philosophy, it makes it such a deep and profound experience
@@BitSharkGames Completly agreed. A lot of people sleep in this movie. There's so much profound knowledge in it. One of my best actually. The second best for me is "Interstellar". Thank you again for mentioning _Arrival!_ Would love to see a specific video regarding this movie if you do decide to do it in the fuutre. 🙏 Mt hypothesis is that a lot of people have narrow minds because most of them are not well versed in linguistics. One language is a massive limitation to your comprehension. That's my theory.
I am so happy I subscribed to your channel some days ago! Your videos are great and you make great research about every topic you discuss, and every video of yours is so interesting. One of the best Genshin lorists on youtube hands down!
ok so i've been listening to your videos while preparing for my final (wish me luck!) and can i just say, i am SO glad i found your channel!! i just LOVE how you explain lore, break it down and give examples from media for better understanding (as seen in this video)! such a well-composed video, and not just this one but all the other ones as well (especially the enkanomiya one, it's a region i adore and i love, love how you went over its lore!) subscribed, and looking forward to future videos!
I kindda have a theory that Ishtaroth is also Venti and this theory got stronger with the leaked images of the 2.6 animation (Venti kneeling in front of "Makoto" I assume).
Ohhhh that would be super interesting. Venti does comment that he's adventured with the traveler before. Also the association between wind and time is very suspicious
@@BitSharkGames yes, he has a power to time travel and to escape the world of teyvat from time to time so its not impossible. I was hoping for his part 2 story quest but i guess we won't be having it sooner.
I think I read that somewhere on twitter as well but I forgot the exact details of it. I think its really neat how Kazuha got to meet Venti. He's such free spirit and I think he represents a lot of what Venti wishes for his people.
