I was surprised to hear the mad bomber want in hof, but now that he died I’m sure he gets in , with this pathetic league that shows it’s disrespect in every way , from the president to the refs , tuck this league , we the best team this league has so many great things we did for the game that are completely over looked and swept under the rug. Here’s to hoping we outplay every opponent next year and the refs . They can’t get us on the field so be careful of those emails too. They made Flores wait until he was old to hof him , shameful . League is racist . But they tripped off grudens way of talking and turned him into a villain . Hope they don’t start monitoring fans cause then I’ll have to apologize for picking on chargers chiefs and donkeys . Indians changed their name , commanders too, when’s the queefs? And that’s tm! So pay me !

I have been a Raiders fan since the sixties. My "all time" favorite Oakland Raiders Quarterback without a doubt is Daryle Lamonica. I can still vividly remember him throwing the prettiest accurate Deep Bombs to Warren Wells. It was a sight to watch him Drop back to pass and let that rock (football ) go! May he RIP and condolence's to his family and the Raider nation.

I was fortunate to be Daryle’s friend for the last eight years of his life. I met him on Bass Lake one day and asked for his autograph. After that we had many great fishing trips together and he taught me a lot. He was a great fisherman and hunter, a true outdoorsman. So many of the things you mentioned in your video Daryle told me himself while on his boat. Thanks for the excellent video and you’re right he should be in the hall of fame!

Hello Wifi Willie. I viewed this video and can only say that I 100% agree with you that Daryle Lamonica belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, absolutely NO QUESTION!. As a long time dyed-in--the-wool Kansas City Chiefs fan, I used to see Daryle and the Raiders come to Kansas City and strike fear into the hearts of thousands of Chiefs fans. Though we came en masse to Municipal Stadium back in the 1960's to see a big Chiefs victory over their hated arch-rivals, we all had so much respect for Lamonica, Fred Biletnikoff, Warren Wells, Hewritt Dixon, Pete Banazak, Charlie Smith, Billy Cannon, Jim Otto, George Blanda and every other offensive weapon the Raiders had. We didn't know it at the time, but those were some of the greatest days and games of our lives! The only time I ever pulled for the Raiders was in Super Bowl-2 against the Green Bay Packers. As a loyal AFL fan, I detested the NFL and all the BS propaganda that used to be spewed by the spoon-fed media about how superior the NFL was to the AFL. I wanted Lamonica and the Raiders to absolutely destroy the Packers but they (Packers) were a great team. Even after the merger in 1970 I still wished the AFL and NFL stayed separate. And when the Chiefs moved to Arrowhead for the 1972 season, I remember the Raiders coming to KC for the annual showdown, a record crowd of 82,094 was on hand to see the battle. Lamonica didn't have his best day that day, but he was always an eyelash away from converting on long passes for Raider TD's. Ken Stabler came on in relief of Lamonica, but he was unsuccessful in getting the Raiders to win. What I believe has kept Lamonica out of the PFHOF is the same thing that has haunted our Otis Taylor for all these seasons: pro-NFL media types who had a vote for the Hall of Fame, NOT voting for AFL players with their rationale being that they believed the AFL was an inferior league to the NFL, hence the achievements of the players in that league were deemed unworthy of consideration. Otis should be in the hallowed Hall and so should Daryle Lamonica. Thanks for the video, be well and LONG LIVE the AFL!!!

My dad and his brother had Raiders season tickets in 1969 on, I went to every other home game with my dad, got to see the Mad Bomber throw to Freddy. All those great players, Otto, Big Ben, Marv. Those were the days, you could enter the Coliseum with a drink in your hand from tailgating and under the tall rolling bleachers at halftime was a thick cloud of pot smoke.

The Raider defense that year (1967) were named the "eleven angry men" by a sportswriter. Only a couple that were on that defense are still alive. One is the fastest Raider, two time All Pro Kent McCloughan, who with Willie Brown were called the "bump and run boys."

It was a sad day. Lamonica was a good QB. I watched him play during a time when passing footballs was hard. The rules were not friendly to QBs or receivers. It was a time when completing 50% of one's passes was considered good. In his 8 years with the Raiders his completion percentage was 50.6% with his average being 14.6 yards per completion, significantly longer than averages today with all the sink and dunk passes of today. He deserved the Mad Bomber nickname. There were too many times I watched I'm frustration as the Raider's would go 3 and out as he threw 3 straight bombs but sometimes it worked, especially when he had Warren Wells to throw to. I remember the infamous Heidi game when NBC switched to the movie Heidi with a minute to go after the Jets kicked a go ahead field goal to lead 32 to 29. With only seconds to go the Raiders scored a TD when Lamonica completed a 43 yard pass to running back Charlie Smith. 6 seconds later the Raiders scored another TD by recovering a fumble on the kickoff which was returned by the Raiders for a TD. We didn't get to see it. That was the same year the Jets won the Superbowl. Does he belong in the Hall of Fame? I believe he does. His stats were as good as Joe Namath's. The only real difference is that Namath's team won their trip to the Superbowl while the Raiders lost theirs the previous season because they played against Lombardi's Packers. The Jets won not because Namath was a great QB but because the Jets team that year was modeled in the same way as the dolphin dynasty would be built in the early 70s and the Steelers of the mid 70s, powerful unstoppable running attacks and stifling defenses. Boozer was their halfback who made the pro bowl and Snell was their bruising fullback who was the workhorse. With the no.1 defense that year all Namath had to do was hand the ball off. So, yeah, Lamonica deserves to be in the HOF as much as Namath, their careers being very much alike. The one knock I have against Lamonica is that when the dolphins developed the zone defense against the pass Lamonica had trouble reading it and instead of checking down to a short pass he'd throw the bomb any way and either it'd be incomplete or intercepted far too often. Snake Stabler did not have trouble reading zones or checking down to shorter passes when he could see the disguised coverages. That's why Stabler took over from Lamonica and why Lamonica's lifetime completion is 50% while Stabler's is 60. Still, they were both great QBs in their era. I believe Lamonica deserves his place alongside Stabler in the HOF.
