Yes sir that is the best way to clean tracks and the wagons work with DC as well as DCC . I have been using this combo for nearly 4 years now . Well worth the price .
Hmm, interesting, I rode a rail grinder a couple of weeks ago and it was being tested, they *would* remove part of the rail so I guess its a kind of wrong way of putting it
I personally wouldn't use this frequently for this reason. I also dont use bright boys very regularly, because they are very abrasive and make small scratches in the rail that allow for more dirt buildup. I will use a bright boy from time to time, like when a siding hasnt been used in months and it needs the rough clean. I have a homemade "bright boy" which is a block of wood with a 4000 grit sandpaper on it, fine enough to polish glass. I always use this after a bright boy to smooth out the scratches I made.
Thanks. So can u add Kadee couplers to these cars? Also, do you have to add DCC decoders or are they DCC equipped? Finally is the rail grinder car really a buffing car? Hard to tell what is on the wheel. Thanks for all the help.
Yes, Kadee make a #19 that fits the NEM coupler pocket. My set comes with DCC, so it is just out of the box to the railroad. They make some models which are controlled by motion instead. The buffing wheel looks like steel wool, so it is cleaning like a BrightBoy. I move across the layout at scale 10 mph and one pass lasts several months. It is especially great for tunnels and other hard-to-get-to areas. I have long hidden ramps from the staging yard up to layout level. See my first reply for cost.
