In this episode we take you through the currant progress of the GCR's bubble car 55009 that is under restoration, and give you an overview of works completed and to be completed, on top of this we take you for an extremely rare look around the class 120's interior and exterior as well, and take you back in time as the interior has been left untouched since being withdrawn from the national network, this is important to us as we need the undisturbed interior to research a few items we need to retrofit to our own class 117 centre car.

Seeing as the 120s where still running around in the mid 80s I'm surprised no driving cars got saved.

I remember these units working Snow Hill - Kidderminster - Worcester - Hereford services. I think the original seat moquette was dark green with some kind of a white or cream pattern together with cream headrests.

We saw them plying the Lincoln to Nottingham route past Burton Joyce in the 70s and 80s. This 120 was lucky to escape Vic Berry's asbestos scrappage project, unlike the 124s.

Living in the midlands the Class 120 based at Derby were 'normal' to us working the Birmingham - Norwich, or Drrby Nottingham Lincolns and the Cardiff and for me my absolutely favourite DMU, and I understand why so many not got saved. Seeing this centre car is an absolute joy, and evoked so many memories, especially that formica and light fittings, I look forward to seeing your future instalments and how get to produce all of those and more for your car. Your doing a great job, and also creating great content,

I spent many years travelling out of Lincoln on 120s to Newark, Nottingham and Derby etc. I loved them but didn't know till now there's no 120 power cars saved ... gutted.

Very interesting video as I am trying to build a 0 gauge model of a 120 at moment. All the descriptions I have read suggest the ceiling was white but from the video that was clearly not the case. I worked on 120s from time to time back in the 70s and in particular remember the TRSBs still had the catering equipment including Stotts boiler and fridge still fitted even though, with the exception of Inverness and a few Cardiff based units, they had mostly not been used since 1962. Good luck with the restoration of one of the most comfortable units BR ever designed.

Such a shame all the motor cars were disposed of, but if it’s any consolation, bo,ness have salvaged a similar unit, including an intermediate motor with gangway end and side cab,one probably used on the Glasgow to Ayr route.ideally they would run as six car units , providing access throughout the unit for the ticket man and passengers. Your centre car from the 120 I believe to be M59276 of course was equipped with a buffet , ideal for anyone travelling from Lincoln St. Marks to Crewe or, indeed Birmingham to Norwich. I’m not sure when the buffets on these sets were decommissioned but I enjoyed many journeys on these trains, mainly in the trailers

I used to travel on 120s from early 70s to 1985 when Lincoln lost the midland station but am sad to say I never saw a buffet in service ☹️ but have happy memories.

Years of happy memories of journeys between Lincoln and Crewe on DY Class 120s. What a time capsule. Shame a 3 car set never survived, but asbestos was the enemy of many early units.

@@RailcarRestorersThanks for getting back to me. Not sure on class at the moment but I’d like a 2-car. Condition wise maybe something that has been running but needs attention to get it back on the rails

@@CasualRailSorry for the delay in reply. In that time it’s been brought to my attention that there is a 3 car class 115 that’s up for sale which does need a fair bit of new steel work and welding but not beyond repair. I also know someone who has an operational 2 car class 117 for sale but it would need minor body work and a repaint. Please get in contact if you are seriously interested. Cheers
