Hello everyone! In today's video we're briefly exploring the Avon Yard, also called the Big Four Yard, located on the CSX St. Louis Subdivision in the town of Avon, west of Indianapolis. In the video, we're primarily focusing on a train being put together by many EMD switch engines, and the new train, CSX Q361, departing the yard.
The four mile long, 490-acre yard was built over the course of the fifties by the New York Central Railroad, and dedicated in 1960. It had 55 classification tracks, of which it still has them all, and over 160 freight cars an hour could be sorted there.
Today the yard serves CSX trains which travel around the Midwest, and there is never a time where action is not happening there.
