Man, I remember seeing those auto rack trains every morning on Busch on my way to school. And seeing how awful my experience at school usually was, that was usually the highlight of my day, and I'm not even that big of a railfan.

Okay, I'm arriving late to the party, but I recognized Paul Newtson right away. I lived almost across the road from the tracks in Clearwater for a year before I moved back to Maryland and enjoyed watching the rail activity.

It amazes me that with train traffic in Florida drops from 60-80 trains in Jacksonville to barely 15-20 trains once south of there.

Danny, you have the best video's i've ever seen. I think that it might be that you give a thorough detailed explanation of information to further educate us train buffs including my children. Train i.d., Point of origin, destination, the manifest of what its transporting, signals, Location, I mean you cover everything!! and that's what makes a good video. Thank you for the education and keep them coming!! Florida's sun rail is getting ready to take off by the way!!...hint hint

Thanks for your videos. All of them are great, and this one is no exception. The narration is what does it for me. I live right there a couple blocks from the Ocala station and have all my life. I know a lot of spots up north of ocala thru anthony, sparr, citra, and then to the alachua/marion county line. I'll be glad to put you on them.

WBill Bailey you ever have anything nice to say on this Page? The Riverfront isn't everything you expected we get it. Go back 10 years and it was a 1980's time capsule full of run down derelicts people only drove by. We've got 3 multi story hotels erected in just the last 5 years. That's an accomplishment to be proud of. It's only a matter of time now before we see more residential development. This town deserves to be pulled out of the 1950's barge canal flop of a mistake that's kept this City from competing with the rest of North East Florida.Bill Bailey you ever have anything nice to say on this Page? @maintguy69 Ohhh... So from what I gather it's similar to Occupancy Control System (OCS) up here in Canada. OCS is a system of where the RTC (Rail Traffic Controller) gives a train a clearance (lead locomotive and direction) for a train to enter OCS territory; OCS is practically dark territory and the RTC cannot see on his screen where the train is. OCS is also given by radio. However, there are some OCS that operate with block signals as well.

Awesome video! Things certainly have changed over the years. Even the B36-7's, as shown at 5:00 are all gone as of December 2009. As for the derailment on November 29th 2004. Its very sad that someone had to die in the crash. In the video, it appears as these kinda derailments are not so uncommon, i really hope that's not true.

Mr.Hartman,i just started watching your videos,and i am i did,i didnt know a train engineer had to know so much about signals,speed ,i also didnt know a train was measured in feet,before i started watching your videos ,i usually just counted the engines,i thought the length of the train,was determined by the engines it had,like i said,im glad i found your U-tube channel,since i started watchjng,i was wondering,did you work for any rail compines before retiring?any way keep doing what youre doing,its very,very interesting ,and educational,look forward for more videosNo

That train collision at Vitis Junction, FL at 5:52 Both the conductor and engineer of the northbound train based out of Miami, Florida and the turn around point was Baldwin, Florida. Correct? The conductor of the southbound train was based out of Bartow, FL and the engineer of that southbound was based out of Baldwin, FL. Correct?

@maintguy69 The only thing I see common between control systems between the US and Canada is the CTC system, however, after studying the Canadian Rail Operating Rules, I find that the US signals are more complicated. I know for CN and CP, the CROR doesn't apply down in the States. Once that boarder is crossed, it's either the NORAC rules or the GCOR rules that apply, depending on where you cross the boarder.
@robertgift

More than likely, leaser power will return to CSX rails because of the current oil boom, but there is a more than likely chance that leasers won't make it down to Florida. The only reason CSX is getting leasers is because they're using more power than they have to use.
