Railfanning the ETR Amherstburg Spur, Summer of 2016

Here I gathered all of the videos I took over the summer of the ETR's Amherstburgh spur. I was hoping to see some more rare loads of storage hoppers or flats... But it just turned out to be bad. ETR has cut about 50% of trains on this line in the beginning of 2016, now seeing 2 trains or less a week. Sometimes there are better weeks but for the most pert, very few. Nevertheless I still got out there and caught some trains. And even though there have been alot less trains this year.. The power has been great!

Awesome video! I love seeing shots of 107 & 108 heading to aburg, as i remember for years 104 & 105 were assigned to Amherstburg as the crews would switch various industries in town in the morning, then head north to Ojibway with there train, interchange cars then head back to aburg where they'd finish switching and park the power for the night. In more recent years power has headed south from ojibway to switch, but since Honeywell closed traffic has been slow :(

Wait so what you're saying is that they would take two trips to aburg? And yeah I've lived right next to the ETR since February 2010 and as far as I can remember trains would come 4 times a week there and back, with about 9 cars at average. Though ever since about maybe March this year? I cannot recall when but since then there have only been 2 a week. Heck sometimes even 1 or 0! Trains have been way shorter since the closing of honeywell, like you said. And I remember when i started to notice when there were no white tankers and smaller tanks for honeywell, and just the ones for Diageo. Lol I do not have very much knowledge when it comes to the different kinds of tanks.

I believe there were 2 trains a day up until General Chemical closed in 2005 but im not certain, however trains used to run from Amherstburg to Windsor instead of the current running Windsor to Amherstburg. Im not sure how long trains departed from and terminated in aburg for, but i know while the etr was doing this theyd leave their power in the honeywell property as theyd use the etr power as their switcher- this may of only happened for a short while after General Chemical closed as GC had their own switchers.

Oh ok! That's so cool! Man I wish I was old enough in 2005 to see this. Thanks for the info! I never knew that at one point the power stayed in aburg. Wow! Also I know that a big section of the old Honeywell property is for sale. Though they did say Honeywell will never open up again, do you think it's a possibility that a company may buy the property and start new operations? That's what I'm hoping but chances of that seems slim.
