For our first railfanning trip of 2021 we decided to check out a couple of locations in Toledo, Ohio. We visited the Amtrak station downtown and the Vickers diamond in Northwood.

Toledo Central Union Station was quite the place when it opened in 1950. Sadly the days of 15 plus passenger trains calling there are long gone. Enjoyed the action, thanks!

Good picture composition, a steady camera, no horribly zooming, and a good understanding of the length of the individual scenes. Very Good! I really enjoyed it!

Haha yes, when we were at the Toledo Amtrak station I parked my car close by so I could keep an eye on it at all times. It's not a place I would visit when it's dark, which is a shame because that's usually when the Amtrak comes when it's on time.

Ok so this has absolutely nothing to do with Trains except for the fact that I used to live in Birmingham (east Toledo) and saw these trains everyday sometimes we couldn’t get through for hours. It’s just odd to me how the love of my life whom I had to leave (but am manifesting back) lives right in front of one of these tracks and though I don’t have very much interest in trains it seems like a sign for me. He also loads jeeps on to trains as well, and his name is Matt, the name right below this comment...I’m ecstatic. (Also my dad used to work for pti) I appreciate the video because respectively I believe it is a sign. So thank you so much 🥰🌙🌚love and light and thank you Universe 🌈

I believe in fate as well. If you have urself open an willing to listen. Some signs come plain as day ,others are harder but u do realize them just after they have come an gone. I had myself open and listening but wasn't playing attention to the signs that where right in front of me. They even asked me out but I didn't want to ruin their lives. So I said no biggest mistake of my life. Have been searching for them ever since.

Nice Video! I'm looking at examples of what the g50/g60 quality looks like, and this is a great example! (I also noticed you sound like D.I.B!)
@DavidLauback
@DavidLauback 3 года назад
I've liked my G50 so far! I decided not to spend the extra money to get the G60, even though it was tempting because the G60 has a better sensor (I think). I essentially just needed something that shot in at least 1080p and 60fps.

Nice to see some action in Toledo. Met a great NS special agent out there a few years ago. Noticed one sitting by the platform earlier in the video. By the way, do you a photo of the auto rack that had the full side graffiti on it at the 13:09 minute marker?
@DavidLauback

No, unfortunately I don't have a photo of the autorack. That was definitely some pretty interesting graffiti though!

How do u like the Rode micro!? It sounds great in video
@DavidLauback
@DavidLauback 3 года назад
I like it! My main goal was to get something to help eliminate wind noise. It's definitely an upgrade from the camera's built-in microphone, but it's an entry level mic, so of course there's better stuff out there if you're willing to spend more money. I just wanted something basic, so it works well for my purposes!

@@DavidLauback good to hear! Also looking for something as well for the wind and lots of reviews say it’s well worth it most likely going to get one as well but it’s always nice feeling somebody else’s opinion about it!! Thank you! Keep up the great work!

Sorry for the late comment lol. But is Toledo a good railfanning spot? Like how many trains does it get? And where exactly is the bridge location? I like that spot a lot
@DavidLauback
@DavidLauback 7 месяцев назад
Yes, Toledo is a great place to watch trains! The main Norfolk Southern line through the city probably gets somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60 trains per day. The bridge we recorded from is a pedestrian bridge just west of the Amtrak station and is practically underneath I-75. I heard a rumor that this bridge may be taken down sometime in the future, but for now, it provides great views of the station.

Dave I live in Detroit and will stop in Toledo on my way to Fostoria but never know where to go to that has public access.
@DavidLauback

I would say the best place to watch trains is in Northwood right by Advanced Auto Images (just off Wales Road). This is the Vickers diamond where the NS Chicago Line crosses the CSX. While you can't get close to the diamond, there are a couple dead end roads that used to be grade crossings that provide railfans with a nice place to watch trains. It's pretty common to see railfans there.

CP-285 is a great location. Too bad the speed isn't faster thru there, as it was on the New York Central. I'd love to see this action if they all were going 60 MPH
@DavidLauback

I was actually thinking the same thing when I was at the Toledo station... It would be cool if the trains were going faster.
@davidcoleman958
@davidcoleman958 3 года назад
I'd agree 100% with that. CP-285 is a great spot. I love railfanning between Vickers and Berea. Awesome spots to railfan at. Have you ever railfanned out there?
@rodneykantorski736
@rodneykantorski736 3 года назад
@@davidcoleman958 Yes I have railfanned out there. One of the best areas to watch trains. I don't know how old you are, but the area from Berea to CP-285 was spectacular from the mid 80's to 1999 on Conrail. When L. Stanley Crane closed the PRR west of Alliance, Ohio (A Major Victory for the NYC Green Team) and rerouted all that traffic north to Cleveland, and and West over the NYC, the amount of trains on the Toledo East was unbelievable. There were close to 100 trains every 24 hours, but most of them were run at night. If you were say at Sandusky, Ohio at around 3am, you could basically count on a train going by every 10 minutes!
@davidcoleman958
@davidcoleman958 3 года назад
@@rodneykantorski736 I've heard about that on the Chicago Line between Toledo and Cleveland in CR days. I'm old enough to remember Conrail but never railfanned them in Ohio. I've only railfanned around Toledo and Cleveland since the CR Breakup. NS definitely seemed like the busier of the two railroads. Vickers is great for radio reception on your scanner. And yes CR made the right decision in putting all of the trains onto the Chicago Line, NS recently did the same thing with the oil trains. The Water Level Route is the much better route than the Pennsy to Chicago. CR primarily used the Pennsy from Crestline to Alliance for trains going to Indy, St Louis etc. Fun railroad to railfan like you said on the ex NYC. So many good spots to railfan at. Sandusky Bay is my favorite one.
