Thanks for the input. The CSX worker told me that the fan unit stopped working inside the control box causing a over heating. When he opened the box a few minutes later it stopped then he repaired the cooling fan.
I have done some things that rail fanners would think that is illegal or trespassing but I do it a lot with workers present but they don't want to be shown on camera.
Fantastic stuff here Alan. I stopped in Sanford on 3-29-12. Just a short visit at the historic Lake Monroe Bridge that is now a fishing pier. Take care.
Aw, man! That's the exact same camera I have! Cool! I actually got it for Christmas last year, and have since taken a TON of videos and images, though I haven't uploaded any onto RU-vid other than my BNSF one.
Teacher: hey you define gravity Me: how mam? Teacher: I dunno you think about it Me: can I put my camera on railroad crossing gate mam? Teacher: of your sure ok just ask Mr. Alan Smith to come with you
I ahve to ssay that this was a Great idea!! The gate didn't look that high but when it is up there, it is really high up. That was funny at 2:18 This crossing must've been pulling an April fools joke... You timed it perfect at 5:24! :D Thanks for posting!!!
It held on by it's strap around the last flashing light at the end of the gate. If the gate didn't come back down there are secret ways of getting them to come back down. LOL
Thank you Like I said to a lot of these people need to read the description. A lot of times I have a rail worker around but I cannot put them in my video because of there jobs do not allow them to participate in the films while they are working.
You do need to re read my comment, first off, I didnt say he was trespassing, I said most railfans do, and I also did not say he damaged anything, I said he tampered with it, by putting the camera on it,I mean this user no disrespect, and infact he has great videos, one of which I have put in my favorites. Point is, when I see something wrong, I am going to say something, cause I dont want the railfan hobby to be made illegal due to railfans abusing our hobby.
Imagine if the gates went back up and shut off so your camera was just stuck up there and you had to tell one of the CSX workers to activate the signal so you can get it back down 😱 That would be embarrassing tbh
Sorry to ask Alan, but what kind of camera do you use? 'Cause I've noticed on some of your videos, that it makes the EXACT same noises and does the exact same things whenever the zoom feature is used, static occurs, etc. like my camera.
That was an old camera of mine but the new one does not do that that I don't notice. It's a Samsung HD 5X paid $59.00 at Best Buy but I don't think they make that brand anymore.
Wow' that is a serious problem' i'm sure you notefied CSX of this dangerous malfuntion. Imagine if the gates and/or the signal did not respond to an on coming train and stayed raised up...Scary thought.
??????? Activation box?? That's on small model railroads. Not on these big trains. Just place a wire or pipe connecting both tracks and it will send them down. Where Ever You Heard That Is Not True. It has to do with current.
I noticed that the one gate you put the camera on looks like the one down the street from my house. That crossing is all safe tran. It has an M bell on it which I never noticed before. I know there is an E bell then next street over. I think I didn't realize that there was an M bell on that crossing down the street because I don't think it works. I can hardly hear the E bell from my house if I were to be outside. But I never recall hearing the M bell. So I was wondering if I should call it in?
How did the gate hold the camera without it falling off? Man if I did that, and the gates started working again and they never came back down, well, that would just suck for my camera. Still cool idea. Funny too.
I do this all the time, making the gates come down by placing a metal bar across the two tracks, It turns all the signal lights in the intersection to red and backs up traffic!
LOL... yeah, I volunteer at the Painesville Depot in Painesville Ohio, he cant say anything to us over there because the gates is nearly 1/4 mile away and he will be on our property to bitch at us. it would get interesting to say the least.
Why do you have NS and CSX contact info on your phone? I've never heard of anybody having railroad companies contact information. Plus there's literally a plaque at every railroad crossing that has the contact information
Well all you have to do is walk down the tracks and step on the activation box or pile bricks on it so the gates stay down. Too bad it's illegal or I would do that as a prank every day. LOL!
LOL You just stated that he wasn't doing anything wrong, yet he "did" anyway? What's with your logic here?! How is he making the hobby illegal? And you know, railfans like me consider the "hobby" as more of a "passion" than anything! Sorry for sounding off-topic here, but I've been in-love with trains since I was about 2 or 3 years old! (I'm 17 now, soon to be 18 here in December.)
yes to both, but I also respect the rules of the railroad, cause I do not want to give a bad name to railfans. Most railfans like to tresspass and do things that they are not supposed to, and I am going to correct it when I see it, cause I love my hobby and respect the rail rules cause one day a railfan if going to go to far and make it a crime to railfan again.
+Millenniumforce Tampering with crossing signals is illegal, not to mention downright stupid. Suppose you did that and the line is signaled. The system could assume the track is occupied and halt all rail traffic nearby. And why? Because someone had to attach their camera to a lowered crossing gate on a malfunctioning signal and use jumper cables to get it back.
+Joe I like how all you people think I do illegal shit when I don't. how people jump to conclusions by watching the video without asking. There was a worker there trying to fix the crossing and I asked if I could put the camera on the end of the gate to get a birds eye view of what it is like and he said as long as I did not put him on camera I could do it. So nothing was illegal here.
Millenniumforce I think you misunderstood what my point was. First, I want you to know I love your videos, especially the ones with the studio audience laughter. You are extremely creative. I don't believe putting your camera on the gate was a problem. Someone asked you what you would do if the gate did not come back down and you were not able to retrieve your camera. You answered that you would activate the crossing signals by using jumper cables. That is what I wrote was illegal and did not care for. Whether you were joking about the jumper cables or not, older railfans like us have to set an example for the rest and even the suggestion of tampering with crossing signals was/is unwise. I don't believe my criticism is unreasonable in that regard.
When a train crosses over the detector circuit it activates the signals and I believe that if the train stops moving the detector circuits will eventually time out the signals causing them to deactivate in case the train hasn't reached the crossing yet so that cars can keep going until the signals are activated again
As long as the train continues to cross the detector circuits the signals will stay activated unless they malfunction or something but they're not supposed to do that
