I agree that brush painting is a good technique. I like it because you have more control over where you apply the paint, and there is more working time. I always like to spay the model with a few coats of clearcoat to get an even finish.
For myself . I kinda do this method Sand the model a tad then paint 2 coats in the colour if it’s a darker colour tho if it’s something like yellow then grey primer underneath . From there add the smaller details with paint pens and touch up with the paint again or correction . Then clear coat and weather with paint dry brush then clear coat once more . Put the model back together again and done
These tutorials seem very useful for some of my custom engines. And when you damped the brush with water to thin down the paints, does it work with other thinners like Tamiya branded ones?
Glad to hear! I’ve not tried Tamiya thinners but I reckon it would have the same effect. Best give it a practice go first though. I definitely think it would be of benefit when working with Tamiya paints - they don’t respond to water as well as other brands.
@@hexthetankengine18 I just use water. It does work but I imagine thinners would be more effective. Although I don’t really use Tamiya paints much anymore in truth
For the model in the video, I used Humbrol Acrylic 3 green and Humbrol Acrylic RC 401 black. The red parts had been painted with Army Painter Pure Red beforehand.
I’ve not worked with enamels in a very long time so I couldn’t be sure, but thin coats are always the best way to go so I’m sure it could. Best try it out on a redundant model first though
@@tidmouthyardmodelling8754 Well, update with enamels, the principle seems to be exactly the same, only the drying time is significantly longer...! Still this tutorial has really helped me gain confidence with my hand brushing, and I cannot thank you enough on that front.
It's actually a bit of a kitbash of two different 3D Printed kits, one of which is sadly no longer available. Thankfully the FIVE79 Edward Thomas kit has become available again:www.five79.co.uk/RC34/ It's a white metal kit, but I'd recommend it over my model from the video.
@@adamcat1882 No problem! Should say that this kit comes with a running board and the newer style cab Edward Thomas wears today, rather than the original Corris look
