Just installed mine...the old one was perfect, I could choose a zone and programs it Individually...days, start times duration. Now I have to try and group zones together to force them into a time based schedule or combine into different groups just to get the Approximate schedules I need. I regret this upgrade and the app is not any better.
Im not a fan of this model either. The digital interface is going to be more confusing then the previous rain bird models especially for an older client base. I am curious what brand and model your old controller was. I've only seen a Hunter brand that is as you described and personally don't like it. I find 4 programs is more then sufficient for most applications.
VT stands for valve test. It sends out a constant 24 Volts 100% of the time that the controller is plugged in. Most of you will never use it, I barely ever use it. MV is for master valve. I've used this option when I couldn't find a leaking valve. I installed a standard valve on the water main by the back flow, and wired it up. That leaking valve still leaks, *but* with the master valve stopping water flow, it only leaks when the system is running.
