Epic footage of a rare rainfall event over Uluru / Ayers Rock at Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park in the Australian Desert. Uluru receives an average of 328mm (13 inches) of rainfall per year. Less than 5% of visitors ever see rainfall on Uluru.
During our visit on 6 September 2015 we were fortunate enough to witness a desert thunderstorm and see rain falling on Uluru.
This video is a remastered version of a similar video I originally uploaded in 2015. This video includes a shortened introduction, improved audio, improved colour correction, and some new footage when compared to the original video.

So glad that they have stopped every tourist from climbing it, it really looked like it was starting to crumble. Now the indigenous people 🙏them all who always appreciated the great rock can take care of it and it will thrive again & get the respect that it greatly deserves.

I agree with you Deb, climbing was open to us when we visited but we chose not to. Its an issue that people tend to get passionate about one way or the other. It certainly didn't negatively affect our experience at Uluru, quite the contrary in fact. Uluru is just one of those places that has to be seen to be believed, it is truly remarkable and standing there at its massive base surrounded by nothing but flat expanse to the horizon you can understand its significance to Australia's traditional owners. Thanks for watching, cheers Phil

Thanks for this. I’ve never forgotten the picture I saw on the front of the daily mail here in the U.K. some 20 years ago its was raining on Uluru which looked a deep lilac colour and the rain running down the rock was silver it was an incredible picture that I was planning on keeping until my flatmate at the timed binned it. I’ve emailed the paper and randomly still google the image hoping for it to pop up again one day. I’ll never forget such a stunning display of our beautiful world.

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your story. Uluru is famous for its changes in colour notably at sunset but, as you have pointed out, the colour changes during the rain are striking when they occur. From a distance the rock takes on a two-toned appearance with a silvery cap as the runoff reflects the grey sky above, the cap transitions to little silvery white waterfall ribbons falling over the deep red (now wet )vertical sides. One of nature's beauty shows that only a few are lucky enough to witness. I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. Thanks again for watching, stay safe, cheers Phil

Thanks Jim, in short we just got lucky, very lucky. The ranger told me that only 5% of visitors are lucky enough to witness Uluru in the rain and fewer in a rain even that leads to cascading waterfalls.
