Arthur Haines discusses one of the wild, anadromous fish (rainbow smelt) returning to fresh waters in the east as a source of the sacred roe and milt used by indigenous people to prepare both women and men for conception and childbirth.
Thanks for this video Arthur. I just received my copy of Ancestral Plants, and read your latest newsletter. Combined with this video, I'm beginning to ponder whether strict vegetarian diet is still for me.
Arthur Haines, any thoughts about using earthenware, stoneware and woodware utensils and cooking materials? I've heard some mention of the health benefits, and health advantages. Plus our indigenous ancestors ate from it, hardly from the cooking material that we have today. Also, milk isn't paleo
@RichTheRidgeHunter No, unfortunately, I didn't have a mentor. Lots of reading, researching, listening, and doing. I've received pieces of valuable information from 1000s of sources. I wish I did have a mentor, it would be wonderful to have a guide through this journey. An early inspiration for me was Tom Brown Jr., though we are very different people. I'm glad to read you are enjoying the videos. Keep in touch!
@crypticorp I really appreciate your concern for the well-being of other-than-human-persons. Most of my fishing is done for small to medium-sized fish within inland waters by hook and line. Once the fish is removed from the water, I use a method of bending the head backwards, which breaks the spine behind the gills. It may sound barbaric, but it is a quick way to bring death, something I prefer over leaving the fish to writhe around or striking it (methods some people use). Best wishes.
Many, many foods have toxins or antinutrients of some kind, whether they are cooked or raw. Those produced during cooking are things humans have been exposed to for at least 1.9 million years (dating back to Homo erectus). We know that isolated, healthy populations around the world have always cooked some portion of their food. Antioxidants in plant foods eaten concurrently help eliminate the threate of heterocyclic amines, etc., produced in cooking. Best wishes.
@elskeetro If you have questions, I'm happy to provide some direction. Underside I sell no food or medicine products (i.e., have no financial reasons to suggest one diet or another). My nutritional advice comes from study of indigenous populations and modern, independent research. Both of these avenues of study suggest the same things. My open agenda for discussing nutrition is to promote health of people and the landscapes they depend on. Use all three brains centers to guide yourself.
I appreciate your knowledge of nutrition. The more we spread real information on nutrition, and anything for that matter, the better of people and the planet will be.
@arthurdhaines Living 25 of my 30 years on the "American Diet" and succumbing to the ails that it brings, I've been searching for a more natural diet. Currently I try to follow an Ayurvedic diet, balancing my dosha (vata dominant). Ayurvedic thought on vegetarian diet resonates with me, and I don't trust local meat sources. I've been inspired by Tom Brown Jr, and recently, You, to explore my local ecology, which may someday involve hunting and fishing. Thanks for the reply!
hi, why is it that wild land animals actually have less minerals, than their domestic counterparts(pork/wildboar, beef/bison)? i was baffled when found out about this on NutritionData.com. queston 2. wouldn`'t it be more benifital to consume the smelt with the tender bones(as its done in germany) or would this be counterproductive? the silica and magnesium in the bones probebly helps to make ones skin look more vibrant, and could possibly be more efficiant for building bone and remineralising teeth? what do you think? thanks
what was that i heard in the back ground oh it was the food police coming to take you away ho ho ha ha to the funny farm for drinking raw milk LOL LOL LOL i love raw milk to just having fun with ya
@lisajames96 Visit my homepage (listed near end of video) and there is a subscribe feature there on the right side of the page. Thank you for your interest. Best wishes.
@elskeetro I feel it would be better to take this conversation offline (and I'm happy to do that if you would like my input). I've read the reference you provided a link to. I don't want to sound disrespectful, but there is so much inaccurate material there. If you visit my homepage you can find my email address. Get in touch if you would like respectful, and tactful, discussion. Best wishes for your health.
Arthur, in case you are unfamiliar with ayurvedic reasoning for vegetarian diet, here is a quick read: (replace "DOT" with "." ) sanatansocietyDOTorg/indian_vegetarian_recipes/why_vegetarian_recipes.htm
