When Rainbow went on the Rising Tour, they played Stargazer and Light in the Black together. They dropped it because Cozy Powell was completely worn out at the end. I can fully understand because it's like a 15 minute drum solo.
Excellent. Finally someone who realises that this song is Stargazer chapter 2. I'm sure that most people don't understand the connection. So well done!
Bruce Dickinson.. rainbow raising is one his influences... Adrian Smith favourite guitarist is Ritchie Blackmore..so of course iron maiden have influences by rainbow
Fantastic reaction once again Ace! And well done for following the suggestions and getting it all spot on! Saw several of these concerts way back in '76 and they were untouchable - all of them hitting fever pitch and yet never the same! Met Ritchie & Ronnie outside a Southampton Hotel once and Ronnie and his wife invited us in for a drink! Sadly, Ronnie got called away after a while but asked us to look after his wife for him! Great times! RIP RJD ..... I'm guessing whilst you're in the Middle East theme that "Gates of Babylon" would be a great way to follow on. But also, the band live are on a different level to their studio work - possibly with the exception of Stargazer - and I would strongly suggest you tune in to "Catch the Rainbow" off of "On Stage" which is truly epic! Keep 'em coming!
Maiden was inspired by Rainbow and Dio. Unfortunately there isn't good footage of the Rising concert tour which is a shame. The footage used was of this tour since Tony Carey and Jimmy Bain were in the video, the 1977 Munich footage was not used. Rainbow has a bunch of great songs, I would suggest a couple from the Munich concert, "Mistreated", "Catch the Rainbow" and "Man on the Silver Mountain" are excellent, but then again the whole concert was fantastic.
I do wish we had good footage of every concert ever. Maybe one day someone can figure it out. I'm definitely going to check out some more Rainbow, probably this week
Yeah, Mistreated is even regarded as one of the best rock live performances. And it's Dio's best live performance for sure. Sorry Dio and Sabbath fans - Ronnie was vocally at his top in Rainbow.
Ritchie Blackmore was a top 3 guitarist in the world in his day. Cozy Powell top 5 drummer Dio one of the best singers. You have a super group. I think it's Jimmy Bain on bass, another rock legend. Rip Dio Jimmy and Cozy. Tony Carey is on the keys on the recording but it's David stone in the video.
