i know nothing about making music or what any of those buttons or dials do, but something about listening to someone who knows what they're doing talking about something they're passionate about will always be soothing. i don't know how much it means coming from a scrub like me, but you make great work!
@Fralorgrafon or you could quit being a negative nancy pointing out every possible circumstance that could fall upon someone and learn to budget instead of whining on youtube
A little compassion goes a long way. This guy could live in a favela and have a chronic illness which keeps him from being able to work. Thing is you don't know. Get some compassion!
@@anthoonius_gabagoolius My mother is paralyzed waist-down. Since I’m still under 18 and don’t have my own bills to pay, I’m putting all the money I make into taking care of her, or saving for the future. Once I turn 18 and child support stops coming in, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I wasn’t whining, I was simply wishing. There’s not much else I can do but wish. Sorry you didn’t know that previously.
That’s one of the coolest fuckin modules I’ve ever seen. I can only imagine what kinda glitter realms I could fall into with the Ensemble Oscillator + Rainmaker + Mimeophon. And here I thought I was planning to focus on techno lol
I don't understand everything but your vid always kind of relax me. Everything is so smooth and the way you create music from scratch is mesmerising, seems almost magical sometimes ✨
despite other videos making it sound awesome, this is the first video to properly sell me on rainmaker by showing me not only what it does but also how it does. I always imagined it being way more menu dive-y than this. one improvement i can think of if intellijel decide to do a revision is to add more trigger inputs. being able to randomise different things with different signals, or even just use the different triggers in different ways would kill for me at least, especially if you could set trigger A to randomise what triggers B and C do.
Thanks for this. I knew when I finally dove down the modular rabbit hole, a Rainmaker was definitely one of the modules I had to have. So far, I have mostly only fiddled with modulating presents and randomized settings, but your dive into the comb made me realize I have only scratched the surface.
Almost twenty years ago I had native instruments Spektral Delay plug in. It was my favorite effect. Really computer based audio was never as dynamic for me as that one effect. I used to stay up until dawn just exploring. It was discontinued long ago. However I hear that song again in this instrument.
Nice work Jeremy! You created some really lovely tones and textures out of Rainmaker and give a good sense of how mesmerizing it can be to explore all the parameters to completely transform an input signal. The Piles label on your unit was changed to Stacks pretty early on, so that's why the menu doesn't match the label on your panel. You must have got a really early unit!
Man, I ordered this mod in January (it's been on back-order), and I completely forgot about it until seeing your vid -- now I'm wishing it was here :( Great vid!
...twiddeling knobs on the Rainmaker while watching this video. Have it as a hardware-insert to process sounds using LUNA. This thing is complex, weird, wonderful and special.
Wow amazing! I'm always blown away at how you so quickly interact with every piece of gear I've seen you with. I'm especially impressed with this cool run through/jam with Rainmaker. Your like "Dr Spock" mind melding with gear, yeah that's what it's like!!!
Jesus Christ. Rainmaker is pretty much everything you want for FX. If I would of come across this before purchase all other fox modules to do exactly this- I would of saved $$$
That Rainmaker + Morphagene combo seems really solid. I'm always thinking about messing sounds up with the Morphagene but I never do! I should change that...
your comment on destructive randomization - could create a preset as a home base so you can go deep with edits and always have the preset to fall back on
Yes Excellent sound design tool. An entire modular device in and of itself. It has taken dozens of hours returning to it over months to really understand it. But it's wonderful. Consider adding another delay and or reverb pedal after , subtle , for wonderful Ambient soundscapes ( I adapted the crazy notion of stacking delays from Ambient Guitar guy Chords of Orion ) . I use an Eventide or Specular Tempus ....as I'm not that deep into modular. Try taming the preset modulations or slowing the ping pong X-fades ...... THEN add simple tape delay or dig delay pedal later in fx chain.. 👍🏽😄❗️ My Rainmaker is in a 72hp Intellijel case with an old Maths for envelopes and a generic LFO. I use periodically w real acoustic instruments or simple synth motifs. True Modular heads have so much other gear that they probably don't dedicate the time to dig into this piece of kit.
great video! I love to use delays in a performance and play with them a lot. how playable is this? does the complexity make it more for programming and dont touch? seems to be a lot of button pressing and menu diving, but this sounds like such a good ambient machine!
Someone on the synth diy subreddit just posted 3D printable 2HP SD card holder blanks. Having one of those with a bunch of morphagene reels on different SD cards would set this system off.
just changing the pitch at the end.. im sure this is how minecraft music was made. lol but that randomizer by itself is mad. if you could have a randomizer for pitch thatd be super powerful
Rainmaker is weird because I can't use any presets made by anyone else. The presupposition of clock inputs and the way that modulation changes it is so deeply personal.
This seems to be the most complete tap delay up to date. The only thing I am missing right now are some send and return jacks for the feedback path. Sometimes my feelings just cries out: This is way too much taps for every mix. But of course you can reduce the number. Man I really hope they will release a version 2 with send & return. Thanks for a great video. Do you know any other eurorack tap delays besides this one and Strymon Magneto, which includes send & return, but seems to be working in mono in some situations?
Thank you very much, excuse my ignorance but can rainmaker be used on it's own without the other two units by just running audio samples through it from say a sp404 and secondly do I need a Seperate case and power supply in order to get it working?
This setup is amazing. I am wondering if there would be a way to add some type of drums into the setup? I am totally new to modular, but extremely fascinated.
Hey - been watching your stuff for quite some time, and I'm really enjoying your modular videos. I'm about to take the plunge into eurorack and the rainmaker is one of the reasons why. Only problem is - I can't for the life of me find any available online to purchase. Is there a similar module you can recommend? Or is this really a one-of-a-kind type deal?
Unfortunately the modular maker world has been hit incrediblly hard by the manufacturing slowdown that's affecting all industries right now. We have to wait for the world to get back to equilibrium. Find a shop you like and ask for an email update on when they'll get more. Look for them used, too.
@@RedMeansRecording Thanks Jeremy -- I did as you suggested today and the shop expects to have them in stock mid-may, which is not a bad wait at all given the supply chain disruptions. They put me on a waiting list. Thanks for your advice, sir, it worked out!
@@13_gh0sts Knowing nothing about Eurorack, I was guessing “Gahty” was some type of audio gate generator, similar to Bram Bos Perferator for iOS .. Lol I was off by miles.
Could a workaround for the lack of "undo" be to save your patch as a preset and then recall it if you make any changes? (like after hitting randomize, could you just reload the preset?)
Quick question, what's that module to the left of rainmaker, just passed the blank panels, I cant seem to find it anywhere and I'm not quite sure what it is!
