You can NEVER have TOO many fittings or connectors this same holds true for Electrical work, Networking work just about any diy work your doing. I promise one day will come that you will be very glad you had the part you needed. Keep the videos coming personally i would love to take a trip up and see your boat with my own eyes but work just has yet to allow for it, Maybe one day

Those pumps you installed are great. Used that style for 16 years, under terrible duty cycles, both repeatedly on and off and extremely extended use, and I think only had to replace like four or five pumps ever, don’t believe I ever lost a motor.

Question? Will you be going back through and labeling all of that? Ball valves, direction of flow, check valves...etc. I mean you will remember what it all does since you designed and built it but for future crew and researches when you tell someone to go open or close X valve.

Excellent video. Good to see you are off LSD. For the deck bathtub, scorpion xo2 spray liner would need very nice addition. It is has a biocide and is softer for the sensitive parts. Possibly they would send you and kit. Other grain of sand in your britches is thermal coefficient of expansion. Epoxy doesn't move like metals or other plastics. Please have one of your supporting engineers calculate if your epoxy fixes everything approach is solid. When the ship is tossing the simple tasks get very challenging. Hey Doug I have worked on a few RO machines. Add a pressure relief valve on the high pressure side in case a crew member accidentally closes the needle valve fully and blows the shit out of a membrane housing or worse the pump housing blows out. I have seen it all before.

The epoxy doesn't stick well to polyethyleen (PE) and not at all to silicon. Maybe the hoses are a composite with one of those two as a part. Testing it upfront to see if it sticks to the materials you are about to bond is an idea ;) I don't know if it's available in the US but we have a kit here in Europe that's called "Poly Max". It'll stick to everything, stay somewhat flexible and you can paint over it when it's dry. I use it alot.

Hi Doug, with the Sureflow pumps you will need to have a regular maintenance rule to remove a soft chalky deposit from the non return valve faces and other surfaces in the pump valve matrix. On our feshwater system with fewer people than you'll have, it occured annually, the pump output to sinks nd shower decreased rapidly. Great stuff on the install . although I think I prefer pushfit connectrs to pex.

The pump in my motor home sucked pvc crumbs from where a hole saw had been used to put fittings into the nylon water tank. The crumbs choked up the little check valves in the pump. Luckily I took it apart and solved the problem and avoided buying a new pump. Since then I have learned that the manufacturer recommends a simple strainer ahead of the pump.

Hi Doug, Check out clamp tite tool for making hose clamps. The advantage of this tool is if you carry a length of suitable 316 stainless steel (mig wire works) wire you can make up whatever size hose clamp you like and in my opinion they are far superior clamping capability to the worm drove hose clamps. Saves having to carry a range of hose clamps with you and much cheaper.

In the navy and commercial shipping we have metal or plastic label tags attached to every valve like waste and fresh water would be WW1 / FW1. Plus all systems pipes tubes motors are labeled too so the FNG you told to open, shut or turn on something can find them. As a FNG in the navy we had to follow the system and draw everything in each system (fuel, waste water, fresh, salt, air, steam, etc) before we could even take the test for our first watch station. Just a thought if you didn't think of this already. God I wish companies would start hiring now I need to get to work welding something. Oh well happy builds happy life!

A way to make that mag drill hold better is to take a chunk of thick steel on the other side of the plate and just hold it up there when you turn the magnet on at all actually give it more power to hold to and then when you turn it off course the steel will just fall. I used a magnet to hold the steel where I wanted it if I could reach it from where wanted the drill.

As for wash-down pump? ABSOLUTELY. You will want that anchor chain washed down. I recently bought a 1981 Hunter 27 sailboat, I learned very quickly that 3M 5200 is the go-to, end-all, be-all, do-all solution for 90% of boat problems/repairs. It cures even when submerged in sea water, and can be used as an adhesive, sealant, wood and metal glue, fiberglass repair substance, you name it. it stays flexible for the most part but is ungodly strong in its bonding. I usually joke that 5200 is the only thing keeping my boat together and afloat, but my pride won't let me tell me that i'm not joking at all. Some boat yard people told me once, that you only use 5200 when you absolutely, positively, don't want something to ever come apart ever again... Well, when it comes to most boat-related things, that is a good attribute! Cheers SV Seeker, been watching you guys from the beginning, and although I've put my dream of owning a boat off for YEARS, I am glad that I recently said 'Screw it' and made the purchase. My boat was in rough shape and barely afloat, I had no idea (and still have no idea) what I'm doing or how to work tools, just going off what I had as an idea in my head. Used your videos to give me ideas, but mostly learned from trial and error. I've taken her out sailing twice so far and I'm sold hook line and sinker in saillife. I hope one day S/V Seeker and S/V Aardwolf will cross paths, I'll save a bottle of rum for that day!

Are you making a ( PMS ) "preventive maintenance service" logbook as you go. That way you can look in your logbook and under MONTHLY CHECKS it will say " check ..... pressure pumps to make sure it's working. The NAVY uses these logs on all ships and it prevents a lot of things from failing and suddenly surprising you. Just a thought.

Are you gonna can tags for those valves? We had labels at one plant I worked at. And within a couple of years, most of the labels were painted over or gone. We started making plastic information tags and zip tieing them to the valve body or handle. Hard plastic, engraved by a machine and they are indestructible. Sure saved us a couple of times during an emergency.

It's a shower and a bath tub. Not exactly Union Carbide. : )

@@SVSeeker That true. If it just means you lose a little shower or bath water it's not a big deal. And if someone does screw up, they can walk onto the deck in their skivvies and clean up old school style.

i never trusted those plastic pex clamps. i only use the steel rings, but i can see how the steel rings would be an issue on a boat at sea. ;)

I remember the first time I saw one of those multi tools. It was a Fien Multi-master and I thought that could be kind of handy to cut door trim to slide flooring under or other such activities, but I didn’t pick it up that day. Then the day came that I absolutely needed one and of course couldn’t find one anywhere. It would be a few years before they were everywhere and now I have two. On a different thought, you were talking about going to stores where the people working there don’t know the products. I’ve been to several stores in the tool department where people were asking questions of the employee of the store and they didn’t know the answer so I helped the customer out by giving them the information they needed. In one case it was about a saw blade for a Circular saw that would have a narrow kerf. I showed him the difference between a carbide tipped blade and a stamped steel blade with small teeth which would make the difference between a Kurd of 1/16 of an inch versus 1/8 of an inch for the carbide tip. On another occasion a gentleman need to make a cut with a 10 or 12 inch saw through concrete and the sales rep was showing him the $180-$220 diamond blade. The gentleman had commented that that seems like a lot of money for making a 3 foot long cut through 4 inch thick concrete. I pointed him to the more disposable epoxied made blades. I’m not sure if their exact name but I’m sure you’ve seen them whether they were for a smaller grinder or regular circular saw. They sort of eat themselves up as you go along but for a one time job they only cost $10 each and you can probably get by with two or three of them. That’s a major savings for when you’re doing it yourself at home and probably won’t ever need the diamond blade again. But even if you did you would have to go through multiple jobs before you would use up enough of the disposable ones to justify the cost of the diamond blade. These are just two examples of how I knew more about the tools than the sales person.

That is a common theme in next-to-any store except the real, specialized commercial tool shops where customers usually are pros. But think about what the "sales person" at home depot will have earned at the end of the week. I am a pro craftsman, and I would not learn a single product for that kind of money.

Doug, you need to search for a video about the "knack". It is a Dilbert skit by Scott Adams. You have the "knack". I believe that drive is called a wobble yoke. Similar to a swash plate, but it doesn't spin, only the center bearing does.

Most yacht racing rules require all through hull fittings have an appropriate stopper wired to fitting for use in case of failure. Typically a tapered soft wood plug is sufficient.

Doug, I hope you only used epoxy on one pipe fitting cos at sea everything will move and flex and even with a solid pipe joint epoxy will break as well as expand and contract differently to other materials. 3M 5200 or Sikaflex 291 here in New Zealand is your friend.

Exposed where you can see it gets a great assist with labeling...and a flow chart.
