Just to get this out of the way: I did not finish the Spearmaster or Saint campaign, so please don't give me spoilers. It was heartbreaking to see Five Pebbles that way, when you meet him as Rivulet. How much he has fallen... how once you could feel him alive in every portion of his structure, even in Unfortunate Development. When you meet him as Rivulet, it's like walking inside a rotting carcass. And how sad he was... this song encapsulates all of that.

This song is especially nice to hear in game because I remember it playing on the Mod menu before downpour. It always made me wonder why it went unused.
I attended elementary school in China from 2009 to 2013. In our huge campus sometimes during noon classes you can hear a faint rhythm that sounds just like this play in the hallway speakers. Not everyone hears it though because how loud the classrooms were so you might only catch it once in a while if you just happens to be walking out in the hallways during noon classes. The sensation of discovering something you imagined no one else has notice before has always held a special place in my heart. Sometimes I’d use my bathroom pass exactly at noon just to go outside to find that tune. This soundtrack reminded me of my childhood adventures.
I still don't like Pebbles, I think he's extremely selfish, egotistical, and doesnt care about anything or anyone besides his experiments, but the state he's in as and after Rivulet breaks my heart. In Rivulet, rot completely consumed his superstructure and he sacrifices what's basically his heart to Moon. In Saint, he's hardly able to even function, and his superstructure is completely gone, fused with Shaded Citadel, Underhang, etc. Sitting in the freezing cold, with nothing at all, besides a few pearls to keep him company, and the only escape from the noises of the blizzards and fauna is his music pearl, which is distorted an unrecognizable amount from the collapse, knowing he can't truly die and escape his turmoil, unless the player comes and ascends him.
I think I’m going to commit the ultimate sin and steal his Pearl and give it to moon today. Edit: I took it from him. I swallowed it and he said “Wait, you cannot leave with that!” Then I left with it…. I gave it to moon, it is not counted as a lore Pearl so I didn’t screenshot her exact words, but she basically told me that this Pearl wasn’t an image or words, but a song, and that it was meaningless. She didn’t say it so bluntly, but that was pretty much what she summed it up to be. It was meaningful to five pebbles :( I am a terrible person. I will update this again with the exact dialogue later
It is a lore pearl, actually! You should be able to see it pop up in the Collection, with three different options dependent on who is speaking on the pearl itself - one is Pebbles who explains it the first time you grab it, the second is Moon if you bring it to her in Rivulet's timeline. I'll let you figure out who the third one that can comment on the pearl is... it's a bit sad.

I personally don't like Pebbles. I think he's very egotistical and selfish, and doesn't care who or what happens from his experiments, but Rivulet and Saint do make me feel for him, especially Saint. In Rivulet, his superstructure is completely consumed by rot, and he gives up the last thing he has for you to give to Moon. In Saint, his superstructure is completely gone, mixed with what used to be Shaded Citadel, The Leg, The Wall, etc. He's stuck outside in the daily freezing blizzards, hardly able to even speak anymore. The only entertainment he has is the pearls, and the only distraction from the bitter cold and sounds from the tortured creatures and fauna nearby is his music pearl, distorted and worn away, but good enough for him. He knows he's unable to die, so he just sits, waiting for someone to come along and take him away from his turmoil.
If you pay attention to Five Pebbles' backstory and how things develop with him, you realize how much the world screwed up with him. He's spoiled (but not respected) by half of the ancients as their "golden child", while the other half despises his existence even though he didn't even ask to exist in the first place. Then all the ancients leave him behind, exactly one of the final Iterators, transmuham AIs programmed to be totally obssessed with an impossible task. He has no choice on it. Over Rivulet's campaign you learn how much his fellow Iterators were important to him, specially Looks to The Moon and Seven Red Suns. Mentors, confidents, family. And a lot more things humans can't fully comprehend. Yet, his designed purpose drives his mind into a self-destructive pursuit of genetical engineering, and it's only after coming to a dead end that he's able to regain full control of his self.
Thank you for this, personally i almost cried when i saw what happened to Pebbles. It's just sad what his madness drove him into... I have a question for you, though. Will you ever make the saint campaign version of this theme?
That's one of the main questions, they say you just wake up when you die, but they don't specify if it's a new incarnation of you, or if your consciousness went to another dimension, also what happens when 2 enemies are constantly killing each other after they died? or if time keeps moving after you die and wake up, judging by the mechanics of Hunter, dying doesn't reduce the cycle count so it is certain to asume it's not advancing and is reverted after, also many things in the world get back to where they were before you started the cycle If each action you take can change the life of absolutely every living being what happens if per say you die but killed a lizard this cycle, when you respawn the enemies and their locations as well as your time before the rain is different, so you are technically not in the same place, so would you by any chance after X amount of cycles run to the same enemy and remembers you?, or once you die you are separated from any other branches that come out of the one you die?, and if so why is everything changing so drastically when you die as related to the experiences of other living beings? Also we know organisms die of old age and leave offspring's hence evolution and all that, but when you body reaches the point of no return where you are 100% guarantee you will die this cycle, does this means you will forever relived the same cycle for all eternity?, and if so why do we not see this happening to Hunter, I know he didn't technically died, in Downpour the "rot" took over his organism, but what happened to his consciousness, does the cycle doesn't need to be experienced to happen? So maybe Ruffles died in the "timeline" eventually and everything went along, to moon is just another one that dies of either old age or an accident BUT something weird that happens when you ascend someone as saint is that: If you ascend either Moon or pebbles AND you die in the same cycle, when you get back to them they stayed ascended, so this affects multiple "Timelines" not only the one you left behind so now the question is to what extend this applies to, you only remove them from all the new timelines you created and if so this brings into the table what we asked early, can you reencounter old creatures you found?, and if so how is the ascension related to this, and is the void fluid ascension the same as Saint ascension? if yes then if one of your others you ascends by void fluid wouldn't that delete you from all future or related timelines? like what happens to Pebbles and Moon? or is Saints ascension even more powerful than the void fluid ascension? One theory I have is could it be that from the very beginning you are destined to wander through an almost infinite amount of timeline until it so happens a "Saint" appears and ascends you and it ascends you so you die in all timelines of old age or maybe sickness or whatever, but now we reach into an impossibility, you there are infinite amounts of timelines, you are bound at any moment in your life to encounter a "Saint" and he ascends you, so you would die in all timelines since the very moment of you existence Another theory I have is that maybe all living beings with a consciousness are destined to become a Saint to someone's timeline, If you die millions, billions or trillions of times you may go insane but you can also reach a state of mind where you can get awaken as a Saint, as you slowly get out of your earthly attachments, as there is no point on keep getting attach to anything if every time you die you just wake up again, BUT there is also a catch remember when I said early that you don't need consciousness to be in the Cycles, and also if it is not a requirement aren't we all just made of cells?, it is confirmed that micro organism exists in RW and by Pebble's words they also experience the cycle, so does that means Saint ability can ascend multiple organisms all at once? or is only the perceived consciousness that ascends and the rest of you cells are stuck in all timelines dying because they don't received feedback and nutrients from your anymore I can be analyzing this for hours or days even!, but so far nobody has found a concrete solution to what the cycle is and even how it fully works, I think this is my favorite reason why I love rain world it gives you a lot to think about, it's amazing! TL;DR: We don't know, and have no way of knowing 😆
Moon doesn’t straight up say ruffles died, just that “the passage of time has taken them away.” It’s possible that, after such a long time by moon’s side, the rivulet set out on its own, either to the void sea or somewhere else.

esta solo hay muchos otros ciclos sucediendo, muchos seres vivos coexistiendo, y al igual que las ondas de lluvia chocan entre si produciendo redultados diferentes igual pasa aqui, tu puedes matar un lagarto y no volvera a aparecer nunca, pero el sigue viviendo, el lagarto te puede matar a ti y nuncsa saldras de sus fauces ni llegaste a la puerta de karma, pero sigues viviendo, todos siempre despertamos, morimos como dormimos, siempre nos levantamos, "criaturita lo sientes?, continua, nuestros ciclos se volveran a encontrar" claramente moon sabe de esto, una vez que hables con el eco volveras y moon no se acordara de nada de eso, el ciclo existio alguna vez pero las ondas del eco lo deformaron tanto que te llevo al inicio del dia, basicamente es asi si existen multiples lineas de tiempo, todas ellas con su distinto resultado dependiendo de los seres que se hayan encontrado, pero para algunos su ciclo si que tiene un final, aquellos que alguna vez ascendieron definitivamente lo hicieron y no hay marcha atras, en todas las lineas de tiempo ellos dejaron finalmente de existir, eso es lo que creo que representar cuando aciendes, cuando ves a todos los que se parecen a ti, no son mas que distintas versiones de tu que al final al igual que tu ascendieron, por eso pasa lo mismo que pebbles y moon, aunque tus ciclos tambien pueden ser espirales, espirales que se expanden hacia alguna parte, en algun rato moriras, un gran ejemplo es el cazador, sus ciclos iban cuenta atras y es imposible escapar de eso, si o si moria o ascendia, despues de que ya no tenga tiempo cada vez que el sufre por la muerte inminente, cuando todo es rojo, los sonidos de los gusanos del vacio se hacen presentes para anunciarle que sus ciclos terminaron, pero no morira, su cuerpo caera pero el se levantara, renacera como otra criatura, aunque recordemos que murio por el turbo cancer, canonicamente salva a luna pero no se deja en claro si hacendio o almenos lo intento, "mis supervisores lo vieron irse al oeste" dice luna, por lo que si mueres tu cuerpo consumido por el cancer seguira ahi si vas como el gloton, o si asciendes no aparecera, aprovechando que hablamos del gloton, el tambien afecta a la linea de tiempo, todo apunta que no cumplio ni llego a five pebbles en el lore original, la puerta se mantuvo cerrada, pero si persistes puedes cambiar la linea de tiempo y abrirla, su ciclo afecto al de otros como las ondas de la lluvia, ahora volviendo a al ciclo, el fluido del vacio no es la unica manera de ascender, los antiguos podian beber tés para anular el cuarto simbolo de la gula, entonces significa que para ascender lo que se tendria que hacer es no ceder ante los instintos karmicos y simplemente no esforzarse, ser igual de lisos que una medusa que no se esfuerza y aun asi puede salir del ciclo, o de este caso de la red de pesca que los mantiene siempre, el ejemplo aqui seria el artifice, quedo clavado en su karma, tristemente el primero imposibilitando llegar a los demas, puede intentar subir pero es innecesario no lo lograra, ya hizo lo que hizo y sera un eco, yo creo que se convirtio en un eco debido a que aunque no se nos muestra su final se puede asumir que es como se convierten los ecos normalmente, y el mar del vacio decidio darle una pequeña recompensa por haber estado tan cerca, decidio mostrarle a sus dos hijos, el mar del vacio no genera cosas porsiacaso, lo que hace es hacerte una ilusion de lo que mas querias en tu vida, pero volviendo con los karmas, el no esforzarte muy seguro que hara que tu mueras ya que la forma de anular todos los karmas tambien implica abandonar la supervivencia, significa que moriras pero no reencarnaras, saldras del ciclo muy facilmente, esto es imposible para los animales debido a que actuan con su instinto, y nisiquiera les importa realmente, quiero decir a ti te gusta ascender?, al gloton lo ato su gula, al superviviente y monje pueden salir elegir vivir aunque en el lore no es canon, el artifice seguira con su violencia, el cazador puede ascender pero repito tambien puede ceder al cancer, y todos los demas tienen razones para seguir viviendo, tu quisieras dejar atras todo el hermoso y complejo que es ese mundo, los ecos no pudiero hacerlo y terminaron asi, pero mucho con esto, volviendo a la reencarnacion del cazador, seguramente reencarno como otro ser vivo, como un recien nacido, en esos momentos aun no cumple con los niveles karmicos por lo que al morir ira al rubicon, segun yo, el rubicon es el lugar donde las cosas materiales que absorve el fluido del vacio terminan, es la recta final para ascender, todos los que ascendiste terminaron aqui, tu les das el aventon ellos tienen que ascender subiendo, por lo que se podria decir que mas potente es el fluido del vacio mas que el rubicon, saliendo del tema el ciclo no siempre es solo un circulo, puede ser un espiral, una red que te tiene atrapado por siempre en el mismo lugar, un anillo, son muchas cosas, algo que hay que añadir que asi como hay distintos ciclos, tu conformas parte de un ciclo mayor, que a su vez conforma otro ciclo mayor, que a su vez conforma a el gran ciclo, millones de civilizaciones pasaron antes que tu y millones pasaran despues de ti, el polvo siempre cubrira las rocas y el vacio siempre las disolvera por eso todo se mantiene y el ciclo se repite, como algo adicional toda la aventura del santo es un sueño, el ya no puede volver a dormir, ya no puede morir, ya no puede despertar ni ya no puede ascender, el ascendio a pebbles y moon si pero es algo que paso desde mucho tiempo, se concentro tanto en ascender a todos que se esforzo demas y no logro ni salvarse, ascendio al unico que podia ascenderlo a el que ironico, quien se quede ahi y no se sumerja completamente en el mar se convertira en un eco, al igual que el artifice no pudo sumergirse mas, el sueño lo digo porque en la escena final se ve claro el simbolo del slugcat dorado de cuando te vas a acostar, el mismo simbolo que te indica que soñaras esa noche sucede siempre con el santo, repitira lo mismo una y otra vez mientras los carroñeros lo visitaran para que el les de su sermon para subir de karma, es una pena total.
God just beat spearmaster and when I beat Rivlet a few days ago it nearly broke me and just- AuGh I have so many thoughts and feelings about Five pebbles my god.
Isnt this one of the scrapped music for the base game? I remember hearing this while going through the alpha gems and junk, if anybody knows the name please tell me
